From the 17th century, French and British colonialists invaded Canada and established colonies. 1756 to 1763, Britain and France broke out in Canada, “Seven Years War”, France lost the war, and the colony was ceded to Britain. 1791, the colonies were divided into Upper Canada (now Ontario) and Lower Canada (now Richmond), upper and Lower Canada provinces have an elected Legislative Assembly and an appointed Legislative Council, respectively. 1841 will merge lower and upper Canadian provinces to form the Province of Canada, with an elected 84-member Legislative Assembly and an appointed Legislative Council. 1857, which moved to Ottawa, had previously moved to Kingston, Montreal, Toronto, and Quebec City for a variety of reasons.
