About This Tool
The Battle of Leuctra was an important event in Greek history, marking the end of the Spartan hegemony and the rise of the Theban hegemony. After that, the Epaminondas of the 370 BC entered the Peloponnese with an army of 70,000 men, he avoided Sparta but burned and pillaged the countryside of Laconia, and in the 369 BC of ad, he helped the Messenians to rebuild their country from Spartan slavery. For the next 10 years, with Thebes in charge, Sparta was reduced to a second-rate city-state with no standing.
