About This Tool

International cooperation was necessary to protect certain species of wild animals and plants from overexploitation as a result of international trade; appropriate measures were urgently needed to that end. The CITES convention manages three appendices. There are 33,033 species in Appendix II, but only 460 of the more familiar species were randomly selected for introduction to the tool.

Most of the species recorded in the CITES generators were found in different countries at different times of the year. Nevertheless, all governments and people have the right and the duty to protect these rare animal and plant resources, and some are even on the verge of extinction. Appendix II species are non-threatened with extinction, and species that regulate their international trade are upgraded to Appendix I if they continue to decline due to trade pressures.

Click the "Display All Items" button and you will get a list of species protected by CITES Appendix II.
