Unfortunate Shades Of ??Spider-Man 3??
[ranking: 12]
Of all the regrettable scenes that fill Sam Raimi??s Spider-Man 3, the most uncomfortable to watch is Peter Parker smacking Mary Jane. Unfortunately, it??s also a scene borrowed from the comics. This time around, Parker doesn??t have a Symbiote to blame - he??s just incredibly stressed by the ongoing Clone Saga and loses track of his actions. When Mary Jane tries to break up a fight between Peter and Ben Reilly, Peter ends up hurting Mary Jane.
It??s entirely accidental, but still not a great look for the star of a Saturday morning cartoon, explaining why writers wisely choose to ignore this particular bit of continuity.
Punching A Hole In The Iron Man Of The Future
[ranking: 13]
Arno Stark, the Iron Man of 2020, is a descendant of Tony Stark who travels back in time to interfere with the modern world. While on his timeline-manipulating journey, Arno has a run-in with Spider-Man during the period when Spidey is wearing the Symbiote suit - and it doesn??t go well for Iron Man 2020.
A stronger and angrier wall-crawler lays a whooping on the Stark legacy and does some serious damage to his futuristic armor - including what appears like fistic impalement in one panel.
Fortunately, it??s just a case of ambiguous art, and Spidey isn??t actually ripping out Iron Man??s internal organs.
Spider-Man Steps Up A Weight Class And Lays Down A Beating
[ranking: 10]
One of Spider-Man??s most impressive victories ever comes against Firelord, a Herald of Galactus. This clash comes during the period when Peter Parker is wearing the Symbiote suit, and he channels the alien??s power and rage to lay a serious whooping on a villain several weight classes above him.
Spidey beats Firelord so relentlessly that Captain America has to step in and pull the wall-crawler back - a dark and early portent of the violent potential of the Venom Symbiote.
Spidey Slays The Spider-Slayer
[ranking: 8]
Alistair Smythe is a member of Spider-Man??s rogues gallery with a long and terrible history. Frequently known as the Spider-Slayer, Smythe murders countless individuals - including J. Jonah Jameson??s wife, Marla - and he ends up sentenced to death for his crimes. When he inevitably escapes imprisonment, Smythe is confronted by Doctor Octopus, yet again in control of Peter Parker??s body.
The Spider-Slayer has the honor of being one of the first to learn the true identity of the Superior Spider-Man, but Otto Octavius only lets him in on the secret a few seconds before fatally stabbing him in the chest.
What Would Uncle Ben Think?
[ranking: 6]
Many of Spider-Man??s most violent moments can be explained away as the work of the Superior Spider-Man, whose eponymous series sees Otto Octavius in possession of Peter Parker??s body and memories. The former Doctor Octopus tries being a better superhero than Parker, but his definition of heroics includes the occasional lethal dose of justice. The Superior Spider-Man??s most shocking act comes as he shoots the mass-murdering Massacre square in the face, in cold blood, and in front of a large crowd.
It becomes difficult for the people of New York to see Spidey in the same light after this incident, and Parker ends up in need of serious image rehabilitation when he finally regains control of his body.
Breaking Wolverine??s Heart In The Literal Sense
[ranking: 3]
The story of Kaine Parker is a lot more complicated than that of the previous Spider-Man, Peter Parker. Kaine is a clone of Parker from the much-maligned Clone Saga. Once corrupted and evil, he eventually gets cured - and becomes slightly less evil.
As the Scarlet Spider, Kaine does his best to give Houston the hero it needs, but he isn??t afraid to bend the rules in the name of justice. This can occasionally run him afoul of other superheroes, like Wolverine - who Kaine gruesomely stabs in the heart with his stinger, rather than engage in a drawn-out battle with the quick-healing mutant.
