  • The Beets on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#1) The Beets

    • Doug

Mash up The Beatles, The Monkees, and The Who and you've got The Beets, a kaleidoscopic foursome whose music seems preoccupied with health food ("Killer Tofu"), bodily functions ("I Sneezed on My Face"), and adolescent angst ("I Need More Allowance").

Originally called The Pickled Beets, the band is comprised of Monroe Yoder, Clyde "Chap" Lipman, Wendy Nespah, and Flounder, all of whom speak with a Liverpudlian lilt that's a direct nod to the Fab Four. They're the favorite band of pretty much every kid in Bluffington, and numerous episodes find Doug and Skeeter trying (and sometimes failing) to see them in concert. As Doug can tell you, The Beets aren't above shredding a little air guitar with their fans in the wild.

  • Ronald Weisenheimer on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#2) Ronald Weisenheimer

    • Doug

Arnold Schwarzenegger was at the height of his silver screen stardom during Doug's run in the early '90s, so it makes sense that Bluffington would have its own version of the muscled movie star. Ronald Weisenheimer looks, walks, and talks just like The Governator, but seems more concerned with fitness than stardom. He first appears as a guest at a local fitness event, but resurfaces a few seasons later when Doug buys some of his workout tapes to try to drop some pounds. "Come on, fatty," he urges in the video. "Your blubber disgusts me!"

  • Mr. Swirly on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#3) Mr. Swirly

    • Doug

Being the man behind a city's trove of sweets is bound to make you a local celebrity, and there's no doubt Mr. Swirly is exactly that. With swirly hair that evokes the top of an ice cream cone, the dessert magnate seems thoroughly invested in his work, so much so that he bids his wife adieu by wishing her a "swirly day." A consistent presence in the Doug universe, Mr. Swirly is buoyant and jovial, though perhaps not the best business owner. Who lets cement get into a vat of chocolate, anyway?

  • Sky Davis on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#4) Sky Davis

    • Doug

Sky Davis is the superstar basketball player behind Air Jets - the Air Jordans of Bluffington. See, in this episode, shoes were a new kind of cultural currency; you weren't cool unless you had a sweet (and expensive) pair of shoes. Doug, ashamed of his longtime sneakers, sets out to buy some Jets but is too broke to snag a pair. Crestfallen, Doug is invigorated by a visit from Davis himself, who reveals to Doug that his favorite sneakers are the everyday kicks he's worn since he was young. Before he leaves, Doug asks him to sign his shoes; Davis does, then asks Doug to do the same. After all, they are "sole brothers."

  • Smash Adams on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#5) Smash Adams

    • Doug

Doug nurtures many alter egos—Quail Man, Jack Bandit, Durango Doug—but Smash Adams also exists outside of Doug's bubble. A secret agent modeled on James Bond, Adams is suave and cunning with just a touch of hubris. Adams also seems indebted to Timothy Dalton's Bond, what with the sharp facial features and jet-black mane. In one of the only times we actually see the real Smash Adams, he's been captured by a malevolent dentist.

  • Mayor Robert "Bob" White on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#6) Mayor Robert "Bob" White

    • Doug

With his nasally Southern drawl and ill-fitting wig, Bluffington Mayor Robert "Bob" White is like an amalgamation of Ross Perot and Donald Trump. Concerned more with fame and status than his constituency, White's numerous encounters with Doug typically center on his ego. He's also quick to cozy up to any nationwide celebrities to pop into Bluffington, whether they be bodybuilder Ronald Weisenheimer or film director J.B. Spiggot. He may only be famous around town, but everybody knows his catchphrase: "Vote for me!"

  • Thaddeus Bluff on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#7) Thaddeus Bluff

    • Thaddeus Bluff

We never see Thaddeus Bluff, but the founder of Bluffington is remembered fondly in town as someone who "didn’t believe in meaningless tradition." Legend has it that when Bluff staked his claim to the land he met resistance from, weirdly enough, a pair of talking trees. This mythology is brought to life during a school play in the second season, but with Doug's older sister, Judy, at the helm, the story takes some odd twists and turns. As played by Skeeter, Bluff is re-imagined as a scatting astronaut. Surprisingly, it works.

  • Dylan Farnum on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#8) Dylan Farnum

    • Doug

Beverly Hills, 90210 was still a ratings smash among teens during Doug's fourth season, and it was pretty clear that hotshot teen actor Dylan Farnum was Bluffington's version of Luke Perry. Not only is the character named Dylan (Perry's name on 90210), but he stars on a show called Teen Heart Street, which is hilarious in how it spoofs the melodramatics of its satirical target. When Dylan wears Doug's signature outfit on a new episode, our hero entertains the idea that he might be a fashion trendsetter. Sadly, that's not really how things work out.

  • Skunky Beaumont on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#9) Skunky Beaumont

    • Skunky Beaumont

Skunky Beaumont is more a celebrity for fans than for anyone in Bluffington. Though he's at the center of nearly every local urban legend (he was attacked by trees, for one), we never catch a glimpse of the elusive character. We do, however, hear his voice in the Season 1 episode "Doug Didn't Do It." Skunky became a lead when Disney revived the show in the late '90s, but pretty much everyone preferred him as a living mystery.

  • Darby Blue on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#10) Darby Blue

    • Doug

Darby Blue is essentially the Jerry Siegel or Stan Lee of the Doug universe. As the creator of Man-O-Steel Man, he's responsible for the most popular comic series of all time. After nabbing the coveted issue #45 (the last drawn by Blue), Doug longs for the very first issue of the series, which was recently procured by his local comic dealer. It's no mere coincidence when Doug finds his own copy a few days later, leading to a crisis for our young hero.

  • Derek Derekson on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#11) Derek Derekson

    • Doug

Described as a "world famous Shakespearean figure-skating person," Derek Derekson isn't content to be the master of just one art. We first see him in a dream sequence, but it's soon revealed that Derekson has his own show, wherein he, well, ice-skates while reciting Shakespeare. Worshipped by Doug's arty older sister, Judy, Derekson represents her platonic ideal. We don't know how she feels about that Prince Valiant 'do, however.

  • Cowpoke Pete on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#12) Cowpoke Pete

    • Cowpoke Pete

As the host of Kiddie Koral, a Western-themed show for kids much, much younger than Doug, Cowpoke Pete spends most of his time chasing around his clown sidekick, Flapjack. When Doug is forced to sit in the audience for a taping, he becomes the focus, with Cowpoke Pete dressing him up in ill-fitting cowboy garb for some good-natured humiliation. Loud and rowdy, Cowpoke Pete cuts an imposing presence with his gapped chompers and a cylindrical forehead, which slips perfectly into his 10-gallon hat.

  • J.B. Spiggot on Random Greatest Fictional Celebrities from Nickelodeon's Doug

    (#13) J.B. Spiggot

    • Doug

A hotshot director in the mold of Steven Spielberg or Renny Harlin, J.B. Spiggot certainly looks the part with his sunglasses and ponytail. Accompanied by his tiny, bug-eyed assistant, Spiggot shows up in Bluffington in pursuit of a new star. He takes an early interest in Doug as the rest of town is lathered up into a frenzy, causing Doug to lament his position as the chosen one. In the end, it turns out Spiggot was interested in Porkchop, not Doug, as he was there to direct a dog food commercial. A dog food commercial? Does "hotshot director" still apply?
