  • (#1) Tyga's Tiger

Owning a tiger is is tough business. Just ask Tyga, who probably thought Tyga's Tiger would look cool in the headlines or on a tattoo.

But according to TMZ, Tyga kept the seven-month-old cat at his Ventura County, CA, home, where he reportedly "took good care" of it. Unfortunately it's illegal to keep a tiger in one's home without the proper permitting and facilities, and Tyga was busted after posting photos of the giant feline to Instagram.

Fish and Wildlife authorities swooped in and moved the tiger to a state facility, and sought to charge Tyga with a misdemeanor and a possible six-month jail stint. The tiger is currently living in a non-profit rescue center but has not received a word – or a donation – from Tyga.

  • Justin Bieber's Monkey on Random Celebrities With Totally Strange (And Possibly Illegal) Pets

    (#2) Justin Bieber's Monkey

Justin Bieber once made international news for something other than crooning about his recent breakup when it was revealed that he owned an illegal capuchin monkey, OG Mally. The tiny primate was confiscated by German customs officials when Bieber "failed to produce required vaccination and import papers after landing in Munich."

Apparently Bieber had been warned not to travel with "Mally," but did not heed the warning. "I even had it written out that he was a circus monkey and he could travel and all that sh*t," Bieber said. "I had all the right papers. Things get twisted."

Mally never made it back home to Biebs and is living his best life at Germany's Serengeti Wildlife Park.

  • Chris Brown's Monkey on Random Celebrities With Totally Strange (And Possibly Illegal) Pets

    (#3) Chris Brown's Monkey

A post shared by CHRIS BROWN (@chrisbrownofficial) on

This 2017 video on Instagram of Chris Brown's daughter cuddling with a capuchin monkey got the singer in trouble. Fans freaked out and thought it was a gift for his daughter, which triggered a Fish and Wildlife department investigation.

It was determined that Brown failed to secure a permit for the primate, so agents served a warrant at Brown's house, and confiscated the monkey. Brown, as you can imagine, was not pleased — and neither was his attorney.

In the end, a Los Angeles judge ordered Brown to give up all rights to the monkey. According to the ruling, Brown must pay $35,000 to the facility where the monkey is being cared for, and cannot visit it without making an appointment. Further, Brown is prohibited from owning other species of monkeys, must submit to searches to prove it, and cannot break any law from December 2019 through June 2020.

If Brown abides by these restrictions, he will be forgiven the two misdemeanors for illegal possession of a monkey without a permit.

  • Nicolas Cage’s Octopus on Random Celebrities With Totally Strange (And Possibly Illegal) Pets

    (#4) Nicolas Cage’s Octopus

There was a time when Nicolas Cage was worth $150 million. He allegedly squandered a lot of that away, and is now worth "only" about $25 million.

One of his purchases was the $150,000 bill for a pet octopus which he said "helped him be a better actor."

Cage has a history of outlandish purchases including a shark, an alligator, shrunken heads, an illegal Mongolian dinosaur skull, 15 estate homes around the world, two European castles, and a pyramid tombstone.

  • (#5) Michael Jackson's Chimpanzee

Who doesn't know about Bubbles? Before Justin Bieber attempted to sneak a monkey back into the country, the King of Pop was taking his pet chimp Bubbles out in matching outfits and treating him like a member of the royal family, which in a way, he was.

Bubbles reportedly slept on a small cot in Jackson’s room, ate at the same table with guests, used the same toilet, and was known to eat candy in the Neverland movie theater. But as Bubbles matured into a large and aggressive adult chimp, his time in the spotlight was over, and he was was moved to the Center for Great Apes, a sanctuary in Wauchula, FL, where he has lived since 2005.

    (#6) Kirstie Alley’s Lemurs

What exactly is a lemur? According to the official California Department of Fish and Wildlife restricted species list, a lemur is a primate, which makes it illegal to possess. That hasn't stopped actress Kirstie Alley, who has 14 of them at her Los Angeles home. It doesn't come cheap.

“I have three new sets of baby lemur twins," she said. "I think it’s a little bit rare, but we have three females and each one had a set of twins. I don’t recommend them as pets for people because they’re very expensive. I have two full-time zookeepers that take care of just them. It costs about $40,000 to keep the lemurs.”

The lemurs are even written into her will.

  • Mike Tyson’s Pigeons And Tigers on Random Celebrities With Totally Strange (And Possibly Illegal) Pets

(#8) Mike Tyson’s Pigeons And Tigers

Heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was an amazing boxer, albeit one who is probably best known as the boxer who bit off a chunk of Evander Holyfield's ear. Tyson's love of pigeons dates back to his days as a kid in Brooklyn, and the fighter has said that that the hobby inspired his boxing career.

It happened when bullies confronted a young Tyson, grabbed his pigeon, and savagely twisted off its head. "That was the first time I threw a punch," Tyson said.

"My pigeons have gone on an amazing journey with me from a child to a man," Tyson said to the New York Times. "They’ve been with me when I didn’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. They were also there when I had more money than I could even count. But rich or poor never meant anything when it came to my birds."

In 2011, Tyson appeared on Taking On Tyson, an Animal Planet show that featured the former champ in the world of competitive pigeon racing.

At the height of his career, Tyson also owned several white tigers, as memorialized by a fictional tiger in The Hangover. Tyson claimed the big cats were expensive to keep up, so he had to give them away.

  • Tori Spelling’s Chicken on Random Celebrities With Totally Strange (And Possibly Illegal) Pets

    (#9) Tori Spelling’s Chicken

Chickens have grown increasingly popular with urban farmers, but most people don't dress them up and keep them in their house like Tori Spelling

Spelling has been spotted carrying her chicken Coco Chanel around town while running errands; the chicken eats scones and other human treats and even occasionally sleeps with the former Beverly Hills 90210 star. Spelling told Lucky magazine:

Coco (Chanel of course) is a silkie bantam chicken. She is white and fluffy and is often mistaken for a poodle! I call her a pocket chicken because she loves to be held and go places with me. They know her by name at our local Michael's craft store. What? A chicken can't craft too? I make her outfits to mimic my vintage dresses. She also has little capelets! I turn vintage brooches into fascinators for her. Right now I'm knitting her a chicken poncho for those cool summer nights.

According to K-Stew's mom, she has the appropriate licensing to own them.

  • Steven Tyler’s Raccoon on Random Celebrities With Totally Strange (And Possibly Illegal) Pets

    (#11) Steven Tyler’s Raccoon

"I got myself a pet raccoon" he once told David Letterman. "I put him on my shoulder and went fishing with it every day."

Raccoons have a bad reputation for being rabid and mean and attacking people, but domesticated raccoons can be bought legally, litter box trained, and are said to be as friendly as dogs.

    (#12) David Beckham’s Micro Pigs

  • Leonardo DiCaprio’s Tortoise on Random Celebrities With Totally Strange (And Possibly Illegal) Pets

    (#14) Leonardo DiCaprio’s Tortoise

The tortoise, which DiCaprio allegedly picked up the North American Reptile Breeders Conference And Trade Show, only cost about $400 and can grow up to about 200 pounds.
