    Beyond detailing this career in his authorized biography, LaVey also discussed in many times over the years in various interviews, including a lengthy interview with Rolling Stone in 1991. Reporter Lawrence Wright contacted the Circus World Museum, in possession of all the records from the 1947 Beatty Circus - there was no LaVey listed as having worked for the circus at the time.

    There has been much speculation regarding the relationship between actress Jayne Mansfield and LaVey. Photos were taken of Mansfield and LaVey together in 1966, leading many to believe that they were apparently friends, if not more. LaVey's former girlfriend, Blanche Barton, has even gone on record stating that the two were lovers at one time. However, despite LaVey's people claiming there was indeed a relationship between the two, Mansfield's people report the opposite. A publicity agent by the name of Tony Kent later claimed he arranged the meeting between Mansfield and LaVey as a publicity stunt.

    On October 29, 1997, LaVey died of a pulmonary edema at St. Mary's hospital in San Francisco. He was 67 years old. Mysteriously, his date of death was changed to October 31, 1997 - Halloween - on his death certificate. Days later, a secret invite-only satanic funeral was held for LaVey. LaVey's daughter Karla later reported that the funeral was held privately due to security concerns.

    LaVey had three children. His first child, Karla LaVey, was born in July 1952 to LaVey and his then-wife Carole Lansing. After her father’s death, she founded the First Satanic Church, with headquarters in San Francisco. Karla currently hosts a radio show and sponsors satanic events and concerts.

    LaVey’s younger daughter, Zeena (LaVey) Schreck was born on November 19, 1963, to LaVey and Diane Hegarty, his partner from 1960 to 1985. Schreck made headlines at only three years old when a Satanic baptism was performed on her by her father. Schreck claims to have grown up in an abusive household and became pregnant at the age of 13, giving birth to a son at 14. Throughout her life, up until her mid-20s, Schreck was a high ranking member of the Church of Satan and, like her older sister, became their spokesperson, going on talk shows and doing interviews on the church’s behalf. She eventually left the church, renouncing LaVey-an Satanism and publicly speaking out against and disowning her father. In 2002, Zeena, along with her husband Nicolas Schreck, founded the Sethian Liberation Movement. Schreck currently resides in Berlin, Germany. 

    LaVey’s third child and only son, Satan Xerxes Carnacki LaVey, was born on November 1, 1993. His mother, Blanche Barton, was LaVey’s partner for 13 years until his passing in 1997. Satan has stayed out of the spotlight, and little information is known about him.

    LaVey first appeared on screen in 1969, in an 11-minute film directed by Kenneth Anger titled Invocation of My Demon Brother. The movie starred Mick Jagger as himself, Manson Family member Bobby Beausoleil as Lucifer, and LaVey playing "His Satanic Majesty." In 1975, LaVey was a technical advisor for and starred in The Devil's Rain; LaVey also worked as creative consultant for the 1977 film The Car. In 1978, he was credited as technical advisor for Doctor Dracula. The last movie credited to LaVey was the 1989 documentary Charles Manson Superstar, in which LaVey was a research consultant. 

    There are rumors and speculation that LaVey played the Devil in the 1968 Roman Polanski film Rosemary's Baby, an uncredited role in the film. No one associated with the film has ever verified this fact; however, in the Los Angeles Times obituary for LaVey, it states that LaVey did indeed play the role.

    As a child, LaVey developed an interest in musical instruments, especially keyboards like the pipe organ and the calliope. According to LaVey, he was playing oboe with the San Francisco Ballet Symphony by 15, but this was later proven to be false. The San Francisco Performing Arts Library stated there was no San Francisco Ballet Symphony in 1945, and that no one by the name of LaVey ever played oboe at any of the local symphonies.

    While he didn't work at the symphony, LaVey was able to make a living as an organist in several bars and nightclubs as an adult, so he did have some sort of musical profession, even if it wasn't the one he claimed.
