  If any character in film crawled directly out of Hell, it's Blue Velvet's Frank Booth. In David Lynch's standout film, Booth is a small-time underworld boss from North Carolina who bends people to his will through force and coercion. If you're around Booth, you do what he wants you to do; and if you disagree with him, you may not exist much longer. 

  Like Satan, Booth's exterior is handsome and charming, but his internal goals are against the betterment of those around him. He seeks to control, and as the film progresses, Booth's wickedness escalates until he's finally put out of his misery.

  • Pan's Labyrinth

  As the stepfather of Ofelia, Captain Vidal is both a fairytale monster and a captain of the Falange, a Spanish nationalist regime that attempts to force Spanish Catholic authoritarianism on the country's people. In Pan's Labyrinth, Vidal is draped in an immaculate, dictatorial costume which makes him resemble a bespoke Devil, and he's intensely physical in a way that's hard to watch.

  Like the most famous depictions of Satan, Vidal's monstrousness is all internal. If you look only at his features, he appears as a perfectly manicured, well-to-do man. You'd never know the darkness that exists inside him.

  (#8) The Duke Brothers From 'Trading Places' 

  What's not devilish about two old men who make bets with each other that upset the lives of their friends and colleagues? While trying to add to the immense amount of money they already have, Trading Places' Duke brothers dismiss one of their brightest employees, upending his life in the process, and put a homeless man in his place - all over a conversation about nature versus nurture. 

  It's clear the Duke brothers see everyone around them as lesser beings for them to toy with. They are anything but divine, but they see themselves as such because of their vast amounts of wealth.

  • Inglourious Basterds

  The inherent wickedness of Hans Landa doesn't merely come from him being a member of the SS, though that plays a significant part in it. His similarity to Satan extends to his willingness to betray those who believe in him. By the end of Inglourious Basterds, Landa realizes the Allies are going to win. Rather than go down with the ship, so to speak, he makes a deal with Aldo Raine in exchange for immunity.

  Landa ensures his safety by betraying those who trust him.

  • The Social Network

  The Social Network's version of Mark Zuckerberg is a young man whose quest for greatness puts him at odds with everyone he knows and loves. As he breaks off from Harvard to focus on building Facebook, he brings along a small group of dreamers, before ditching them once he gains fortune and fame.

  Despite people continually trying to bring the Facebook founder down, he always outwits and out-thinks them, all while taking particular glee in making their lives a little bit worse. No one in this film is "good," but this portrayal of Zuck paints him as a figure best described as devilish.

  (#7) Anakin Skywalker From 'Star Wars' 

  The Devil begins his life working for God as one of the main angels of Heaven. Things go south when the two wind up on opposing sides after God decides to create the human race. Satan turns dark and goes to battle with the angels before taking dominion over Hell. 

  The story of Satan's fall from grace essentially has the major bullet points of Anakin Skywalker's turn towards the dark side. Anakin starts his life as a sweet little pod racer who's strong with the Force, but he slowly succumbs to the pull of the Sith. By the time the Clone Wars break out, he's well on his way to being one of the major monsters in a galaxy far, far away. 

  As far as characters who might as well be Satan go, Anakin Skywalker has it all: the look, the backstory, the pride, and even the special powers.
