One of Lucius Malfoy's many cruel behaviors toward Dobby is kicking the elf down a set of stairs in Dumbledore's office at the end of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Actor Jason Isaacs told fans at Chicago Comic Con that the move, with Dobby added in later using special effects, was improvised. The crew apparently thought Isaacs had tripped on the stairs, but the actor intended it to be a kick.

According to director David Yates, in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 scene in which Bellatrix (Helena Bonham Carter) torments Hermione (Emma Watson) at Malfoy Manor, Watson "wanted to do research" to prepare. Yates told Fandango:
She was really keen to get it right. It seemed like a really bizarre request, but I asked my assistant to find some documentaries where people talk about what it's like to be tortured. I didn't shoot it like a scene where you [say] action [and] cut. I kind of let the camera roll for four or five minutes and I let Helena and Emma improvise to a certain extent those moments, so they could build an intensity together.
