  • Gemini Man on Random Bad Action Movies That Are Actually Good

    (#15) Gemini Man

    • Will Smith, Clive Owen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Benedict Wong

Ang Lee's Gemini Man has one of the largest disparities between critical and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes which means that it has to be good. Lee's film is a look at a man's fight with his own inner demons filmed at 120 FPS in 3D.

Every production decision in the movie is mind boggling. Everyone in the movie is swinging for the fences in every frame of the film and in some cases it doesn't work but it's still wildly entertaining. Even if the "so bad it's good" concept doesn't enthrall you, there's a motorcycle chase in the first hour of Gemini Man that's absolutely breathtaking.

  • Lockout on Random Bad Action Movies That Are Actually Good

    (#12) Lockout

    • Maggie Grace, Guy Pearce, Peter Stormare, Lennie James, Joe Gilgun, Vincent Regan, Tim Plester, Jacky Ido, Milorad Kapor, Vanja Lazin, Bojan Peric, Anne-Solenne Hatte, Marko Janjic, Nick Hardin, Yan Dron, Mark Tankersley, Peter Hudson, Thomas Kelly, Jason Ryan, Dan Savier, Damijan Oklopdzic, Michael Sopko, Patrick Cauderlier, Jovan B. Todorovic, Stefan Buzurovic, Daryl Fidelak, Miodrag Stevanovic, Greg De Cuir, Bojana Bregovic, Pete Chaffey, Evan Moses II, Milana Milunovic, Charles Robertson

Escape From New York is an amazing movie, but what if it was set in space? That's the plot of Lockout, the French action film that's not all that concerned with taking itself seriously.

You're not going to learn any life lessons from this movie and it's not going to become your favorite film by a long shot, but if you're trying to put together an evening of crowd-pleasing science fiction action that's more roller coaster than narrative think piece this is it.

    Rotten Tomatoes Score: 37%

  • Conan the Destroyer on Random Bad Action Movies That Are Actually Good

    (#3) Conan the Destroyer

    • Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wilt Chamberlain, André the Giant, Grace Jones, Olivia d'Abo, Mako Iwamatsu, Tracey Walter, Sarah Douglas, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Jeff Corey, Ferdy Mayne, Pat Roach, Terry O'Neill, Erik Holmey, Angel Ashley, Matt Conner, Bruce Fleischer, John Sabol

Conan the Destroyer gets a bad rap for not being as ambitious as its predecessor. It's rare that a sword and sandals action flick is well received and it's even more rare for a sequel to stand up under scrutiny but decades after its release it's clear that the filmmakers just threw logic out the window and made a truly bonkers movie.

Aside from the normal cast of Conan characters there's a mirror demon, a wizard,  a virgin princess, a sex demon, and Kareem Abdul Jabar all just running around in the movie. What the film lacks in logic it more than makes up for in excitement.

  • Double Team on Random Bad Action Movies That Are Actually Good

    (#13) Double Team

    • Dennis Rodman, Mickey Rourke, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Paul Freeman

If you haven't seen Double Team there's really no way to prepare you for how truly cuckoo bananas it is. Jean Claude Van Damme plays a counter-terrorism agent who's trying to catch a third rate Bond villain played by Mickey Rourke with the help Dennis Rodman who plays a European arms dealer.

Double Team is basically three movies in one and none of them make sense but they're all amazing. It's essentially a movie that's stitched together from the most exciting parts of every action movie you've ever seen. There's an island full of ex-spies, Mickey Rourke has a tiger, and there are trappist monks that are also hackers. The only problem with this movie is that it's not playing on a 24 hour loop on every tv channel.

    Rotten Tomatoes Score: 11%

  • Alien vs. Predator on Random Bad Action Movies That Are Actually Good

    (#5) Alien vs. Predator

    • Sanaa Lathan, Lance Henriksen, Tommy Flanagan, Colin Salmon, Ewen Bremner, Raoul Bova, Petr Jákl, Tom Woodruff Jr., Liz May Brice, Ian Whyte, Carsten Norgaard, Agathe de La Boulaye, Sam Troughton, Adrian Bouchet, Andy Lucas, Glenn Conroy

Both the Alien and Predator franchises have a few stellar films in their respective franchises. Bringing the two creatures together didn't bring critical accolades but the combination does make for a very enjoyable movie.

Alien vs. Predator is gives the audience the best of both worlds: a group of researchers are stuck in an arctic pyramid with xenomorphs and predators, whoever wins we lose. It's not high art but it delivers, and if you like the film enough to explore its sequel you won't be disappointed. Both of the films in this sub-franchise absolutely tear it up.

    Rotten Tomatoes Score: 21%

  • San Andreas on Random Bad Action Movies That Are Actually Good

    (#10) San Andreas

    • Dwayne Johnson, Kylie Minogue, Alexandra Daddario, Carla Gugino, Paul Giamatti, Ioan Gruffudd, Colton Haynes, Archie Panjabi, Morgan Griffin, Will Yun Lee, Matt Gerald, Brad McMurray, Todd Williams, Jaymes Butler, Art Parkinson, Alec Utgoff

San Andreas is the epitome of a big, dumb action movie where you can shut your brain off and let the images wash over you. That's a good thing by the way. Even though this isn't as well plotted as some of the most intricate films of the MCU it's still a really fun watch.

The film's plot is a bit flimsy, but the effects are legitimately amazing and the cast is so charming that they could read the phone book and it would be fine. Anyone who's a fan of the Die Hard but different formula of action filmmaking will definitely dig this movie.
