  • Sir Earle Page – Officer in the Australian Army Medical Corps, stationed in Egypt and France during World War I.

He also survived being torpedoed by a Japanese submarine while evacuating from Singapore aboard an ammunition ship, spending 24 hours in the water before rescue.

  • John McEwen – Enlisted in the Army in 1918, and was in camp awaiting embarkation for France when the armistice was declared.

  • Gough Whitlam – Served in World War II in the RAAF as a navigator, reached the rank of Flight Lieutenant. Stationed in northern Australia, protecting convoys and conducting bombing raids on islands to the north.

The prime minister is the head of the Australian government and is appointed by the Governor-General of Australia on behalf of the Queen, as the Monarchy of Australia is usually based in the UK and not in Australia, and the duties of the head of state are usually carried out by the governor-general. Many of the prime ministers are former members of the armed forces who have since retired to join other political departments. In the random tool here, a total of eight Australian prime ministers throughout history.
