Apart from retaining parts of Western Asia and Egypt’s nominal suzerainty, the other territories have been completely dismembered by the Great Powers. During World War I, the Ottoman Empire fought in many battles, including in the East, Romania, and Macedonia. When World War I broke out, the monarch of the Ottoman Empire led the country to the Allies in an attempt to restore its former glory with the aid of war and Germany.
