About This Tool

Houghton County (Michigan) is a county located in the northern part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA, bordering Lake Superior to the west and Keweenaw Bay to the east. It covers an area of 3,889 square kilometers. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, there were 36,016 people in total. County seat Houghton (Houghton). Founded on March 19, 1845, the county government was established on May 18, 1846. The county's name is Memorial State Geologist Douglas Horton.
