  • Happy Hogan on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#1) Happy Hogan

    • Iron Man 3, Iron Man 2, Iron Man, Marvel Universe

Happy Hogan is basically the friend that everybody deserves. Happy's journey began all the way back in Iron Man where he was introduced as Tony Stark's personal chauffer, bodyguard, and best friend until the day he passed.

When Stark's influence over everything that's happened in the MCU is considered, at the end of the day, Happy was always there off-screen, offering guidance to the most ambitious Avenger. Following his friend's passing, Stark indirectly bequeathed Happy's guidance onto Peter Parker. Now, viewers can get a taste of what Happy did for Stark in his early days through the eyes of Peter, but this time, he's got invaluable experience.

  • Wong on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#2) Wong

    • Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Strange, Marvel Universe

    Wong. Gets. Stuff. Done.

Seriously. Without his behind-the-scenes organization of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, the final clash of Avengers: Endgame wouldn't have happened. Upon receiving Doctor Strange's orders once The Snap was undone, the fact that he was able to dispatch teams of wizards to fetch the forces of Wakanda, New Asgard, The Ravagers, and even Howard the Duck, as well as Pepper Pots and The Wasp, in such a small window of time is astounding.

Given what little we know about the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and how it will very likely involve Wanda's powers, it will be interesting to see how Wong factors into the story. But what we do know: He doesn't get very much credit.

  • Korg on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#3) Korg

    • Planet Hulk

Korg is a political idealist who, strangely, has an incredibly strong moral compass. After leading a failed political revolution, he is forced into gladiatorial clashes where he meets a down-on-his-luck Thor.

He becomes one of Thor's "rocks" while dealing with the Hela situation in Thor: Ragnarok and even follows him to Earth after The Snap, settling in New Asgard. Korg is likely the reason Thor didn't off himself as a result of his depression and substance dependency following The Snap. Heroes are put on lonely pedestals, surrounded by few - if any - peers, and in the event they ever fall from grace, having someone like Korg to catch them is incredibly important.

  • M'Baku on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#4) M'Baku

M'Baku's sense of honor is top-notch, matched only by Steve Rogers and T'Challa. He's often looked at as a ruthless warrior, and his stern focus is what has kept the Jabari Tribe alive as long as it has.

By honoring T'Challa's mercy from their trial by conflict, he facilitated the liberation of Wakanda from Erik Killmonger. Additionally, he committed the Jabari Tribe's forces to the defense of Wakanda, and eventually Earth, in the fight against Thanos.

  • Maria Hill on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#5) Maria Hill

    • The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Avengers, Marvel Universe

Maria Hill's willingness to serve the greater good and her loyalty to Nick Fury aren't talked about enough. A master spy and tactician, Hill has been a S.H.I.E.L.D. liaison and asset for the Avengers since The Avengers, and proven herself to be one of their strongest and most resourceful allies.

Between her being Fury's right hand regarding sensitive missions and her skill as a field agent, as well as even handling the logistics of snuffing out secret HYDRA cells following the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hill is a one-woman support system for Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

  • Peggy Carter on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#6) Peggy Carter

    • Agent Carter, Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel Universe

Initially thought of as the English girl on the army base as seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, Margaret "Peggy" Carter's massive career single-handedly facilitated the formation of the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.) and eventually the Avengers.

Following her initial film debut, she worked for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (S.S.R.) in New York, acting with the agency when her male superiors tried to force her into a secretarial role following World War II as seen in Agent Carter. Eventually with Howard Stark and Chester Phillips, she co-founded S.H.I.E.L.D. in 1965, which absorbed the S.S.R. after the remaining HYDRA factions were snuffed out.

  • Edwin Jarvis on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#7) Edwin Jarvis

    • The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Ultimate Avengers, Ultimate Avengers 2, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Avengers

Right-hand man to Howard Stark, Edwin Jarvis can be credited as one of the least talked about and yet most important supporting characters in the MCU. Following World War II, Stark was accused of treason by the United States government, and he tasked Jarvis to seek out Peggy Carter to try and clear his name.

The resulting deeds helped form and strengthen a bond between Stark and Carter, so much so that they went on to co-found S.H.I.E.L.D. Additionally, Jarvis is presumed to have taken on a large portion of Tony Stark's upbringing, helping him become the man he is today, inspiring the JARVIS program, which, thanks to the Mind Stone, evolved into The Vision.

  • Drax the Destroyer on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#8) Drax the Destroyer

    • Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Universe

When Drax is introduced to audiences in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, we learn about his beef with Thanos (slaying your wife and daughter will leave a mark). While Drax has about as much tact as a raccoon going through a dumpster, he really experiences the most growth out of the Guardians over the course of the three films where he actually speaks. In Guardians Vol. 1, his character is defined by his need for revenge, not wanting anything else or really caring about who got in his way. Then, in Guardians Vol. 2, we see him come out of his shell due to his interactions with Mantis and a more developed family/team dynamic with the other Guardians.

When Avengers: Infinity War rolls around, we still see the same man who wants to avenge his wife and child, but after getting his butt firmly handed to him when the Guardians encountered him on Knowhere, he somehow - quietly - becomes rational. This is evidenced by his ability to remain collected when the team of heroes arrives on Titan to try to take the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos but fail because of Peter Quill's hot temper.

Drax is often written off as the comedic relief - the barbarian in the china shop - but he's learned how to process his past and handle his emotions incredibly well over just those three films.

  • Mantis on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#9) Mantis

    • Marvel Universe

Mantis's power set is arguably the most passive of any of the MCU heroes introduced thus far. Because of this, the majority of her on-screen time is often utilized as a means of character development for other people. Is this a terrible thing? Nope. Empathy is far too rare of a commodity in films, let alone society, and having a character whose screen presence exudes compassion is a wonderful break to the often nitty, gritty, and cynical dialogue that has become the norm in the MCU.

That, and the fact she was able to stun Thanos for a good chunk of time in Avengers: Infinity War while the heroes on Titan tried to get the Infinity Gauntlet until Peter Quill messed everything up.

  • Talos on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#10) Talos

    • Crusher Joe

Talos's involvement in the history of the MCU is presently up in the air, abuzz with speculation. During the end credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it is revealed that Talos and his wife had been acting as body doubles for Nick Fury and Maria Hill, respectively. This is a huge revelation that could have sweeping implications when events from earlier films are examined with a fine-tooth comb once the rumored Secret Wars film is likely released in Phase 5 or 6. Considering Talos has been on Earth since at least the early '90s, there is no end to the number of places he could have been either doubling as Fury or literally anyone else, potentially altering events in history beyond comprehension by simply being someone else.

With the potential for S.W.O.R.D. to make an appearance in the likely Marvel Cosmic titles like Fantastic Four and certain X-Men storylines, Talos is set to become even more important than he is now.

  • Rhomann Dey on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#11) Rhomann Dey

A legitimately good cop, Rhomann Dey is an often forgotten character from Guardians of the Galaxy that helped cement the Guardians' validity. We meet Dey as the Nova Corps officer who has captured the then not-yet-Guardians and transfers them to The Kyln. The events that led up to the Battle of Xandar were communicated from Starlord via Dey to Nova Prime, who was able to prepare for the incoming Kree assault and attempted siege as they tried to get the Power Stone.

Xandar would have fallen and the Power Stone would have gotten into Thanos's hands seven movies earlier than anticipated if it wasn't for Dey's trustworthiness that extended to both his work colleagues in the Nova Corps and the people he shipped off to high-security prisons.

  • Darcy Lewis on Random Low-Key Underrated Characters In Marvel Cinematic Univers

    (#12) Darcy Lewis

    • Thor: The Dark World, Thor

The patron saint of snark has been sorely missed in the latest installments of the MCU, and the potential to have her return alongside Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder is almost too much to handle. Darcy Lewis offered something to the first two Thor movies that's missing from a lot of films that have characters who are literal gods: human reactions to dangerous situations. Darcy's interactions with Thor specifically allow the audience to humanize him, rather than idolize him as a golden god because Darcy does the exact opposite.

With the announcement of WandaVision, it was also announced that Darcy would be making an appearance as a series regular. Considering the series is set in the 1960s, it leaves a number of heads being scratched wondering if she will be some sort of nosy neighbor à la Gladys Kravitz from Bewitched.
