  (#1) Saitama

  No list about anime 1-hit KOs is complete without a nod to Saitama, a characters whose defining feature is his ability to destroy his opponents with a single punch. While lighter punches will only result in unconsciousness and therefore a win for Saitama, his Serious Punch is just about the most dangerous thing you could possibly encounter. In fact, we don't even know what happens when someone is actually hit by it - Boros was taken out via its shock waves alone. That's some serious power!

  • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Fullmetal Alchemist

  Alchemy involves both destruction and creation, but sometimes all that's needed is the destruction part. While all alchemists take things apart at the molecular level, Scar has been shown using this blunt-force method in combat on multiple occasions. Most memorably, he blasted Shou Tucker to bits after finding out what he did to Nina and the family dog. In the 2003 version, he does the same thing to Nina out of mercy, but in the 2009 version he eliminates her using milder means.

  (#3) Kaguya Ōtsutsuki

  • Naruto

  One of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's most formidable attacks is All-Killing Ash Bones. Using this technique, Kaguya hardens her bones and lets them protrude from her skin. She then fires them like projectile weapons at a target. Anyone who is pierced by these bone missiles will completely disintegrate. As long as she can make contact with the target, this is guaranteed to work - there is no one in the Shinobi world who is powerful enough to overcome this.

  • Death Note, Death Note: Re-light: L's Successors, Death Note, Death Note: The Last Name

  If a Death Note user knows a person's name and face, and writes their name down, that person's life will end. If no other instructions are written, they will have a heart attack and pass away within 40 seconds, but if the user wants to get fancy they can specify the time and cause, and control the person's actions surrounding their demise. There are a few other rules, but generally speaking, there's no way to avoid losing your life if your name's been written down.

  The only real difficulty is that not everybody's name and face are accessible - sure, you could trade half your life span for the Shinigami Eyes, but if you're like Light Yagami, you're not going accept that kind of deal - you have a kingdom to build, and you need all the years you have left to do it.

  (#5) Overhaul - 'My Hero Academia'

  Kai Chisaki is the leader of the yakuza group Shie Hassaikai, and he didn't achieve that level of power by accident. His quirk, Overhaul, lets him disassemble and reassemble matter into any form he chooses - basically, the dude's doing FMA-style alchemy in a world where nobody else knows how to do it. This ability can be used in a wide variety of ways, ranging from healing injuries to fusing with his allies to destroying them on contact. That last one is why he's on this particular list - if he touches you, he can turn you into goo.

  (#6) Hakai - 'Dragon Ball Super'

  Beerus' signature move as the God of Destruction is Hakai. When he uses this move, a target of his choice is eliminated so thoroughly that it's as if they never even existed in the first place. Seriously, those who are eliminated this way don't go to the Other World, they just cease to be. Hakai is so overwhelming that it can even be used to eliminate people's souls. Its only weakness seems to be the fact that it can't be used against immortals. 

  Eventually, Goku also learns this technique - not exactly surprising for someone with powers that are already god-tier anyway.

  (#7) Akame

  Also known as the One-Cut Killer, Akame's katana blade Murasame is capable of destroying its targets with a single cut. That's because one cut puts a poisonous curse on its victims. The curse creates black markings on the persons' body and ultimately onto their heart. This causes a fatal heart attack. Because the sword is so dangerous, Akame has to wear gloves when cleaning it, or risk being cut herself.

  (#8) Decay - 'My Hero Academia'

  Tomura Shigaraki's quirk, Decay, is straight forward but terrifying. Anything that he touches with all five fingers will immediately start to disintegrate. This applies to both organic and inorganic material, so even the most powerful armor will only delay the process. The disintegration will spread throughout the body or object unless the affected parts are removed, so even a light touch on the arm could destroy a person's entire body. Eventually, Shigaraki even becomes capable of activating his quirk without the use of all five fingers, making him all the more destruction.

  (#9) True Death - 'Overlord'

  Gazef Stronoff and Ainz Ooal Gown were friends before they found themselves on opposite sides of a war. This was a big problem, because while the two were equally matched in friendship, they weren't so much in skill. Unable to see a future where his friend might survive, Ainz offs him out of mercy, at his request. This sounds awful, but this was just before he unleashed a bunch of horrible goat demons that would wipe out 20,000 people in a shot, so it's understandable that Gazef would have wanted to avoid that.

  To accomplish this, he uses a high-level spell that not only ends him right away, it also ensures that he can't be brought back to life using low-level spells. That was what Gazef wanted, too.

  (#10) Suzumebachi - 'Bleach'

  Using her Zanpakutō Suzumebachi, Suì-Fēng, the commander-in-chief of the Onmitsukidō, is able to take out her opponents more or less instantly. Her Shikai ability, Nigeki Kessatsu, allows her to stab her opponent once, leaving a butterfly shaped mark. It's possible that they'll survive that hit, but anyone who is hit in the same place a second time is guaranteed to lose their life. It might not be exactly a 1-hit KO, but considering its overwhelming power and the fact that two blows means your inevitable demise, it more than qualifies for this list.

  (#11) Kenshiro

  • Fist of the North Star, Fist of the North Star, Fist of the North Star 1: Legend of Raoh - Death for Love

  Hokuto Shinken is a dangerous style of Chinese martial arts that the protagonists of Fist of the North Star hope to master. It contains a variety of moves that will instantly annihilate anyone unfortunate enough to be on the wrong side of them. For example, using Kaikotsu Ken will cause a person's skeleton to literally explode out of their body with a single poke to the forehead. Kōshu Hatō Ken can split a person's body clean in two with just one kick to the head. Rekka Gyakuryu Ken causes the victim's throat to close up, making them suffocate before ultimately exploding.

  You do not want to fight Kenshiro or anyone else who knows Hokuto Shinken, because unless you're another wildly powerful anime character, your skeleton will abandon you forever.

  (#12) InuYasha

  • Inu Yasha, InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time

  If you're looking for a technique that will instantly send your opponent to the afterlife, you've found it in Meidō Zangetsuha. This technique once belonged to a yokai named Shishinki, but through a series of sword-based conflicts it eventually made its way to Sesshoumaru and then Inuyasha, becoming stronger and more refined with each step. It doesn't actually harm its targets, but it does completely neutralize them, immediately. It creates a dark area that sends anyone in its path to the Netherworld, effective ending their life.

  This works against Naraku's body, but it takes the Shikon Jewel to take down his soul.

  (#13) Respira - 'Bleach'

  Respira, also known as the "Breath of Death," is an appropriate name for this powerful technique. Baraggan Louisenbairn uses this power while in his Resurrección, Arrogante. Respira is a smoke-like miasma that can instantly age and rot anything in its way. The only way to stop it from consuming your entire body and killing you is to immediately amputate the afflicted area. If you're not quick enough, it's an instant death.

  Hiei's most powerful technique is an ability that countless people sought to harness. This technique allows him to summon black flames from the Spirit World and harness it into the shape of a dragon. It can completely incinerate anything in its way. If not used correctly, this power could harms its user, like when Hiei severly burned his own arm when trying to use its black flames.

  (#15) Crime & Punishment - 'Bungo Stray Dogs'

  The founder and leader of the organization called Rats in the House of the Dead has an ability that has yet to be fully described. How he does it is still a mystery, but Fyodor Dostoevsky has been seen destroying his opponents with a simple touch. Not bad for a guy who apparently has an "anemic, sickly constitution."

  • JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

  Light Yagami isn't the only Kira on this list to have a dangerous one-shot move. Yoshikage Kira and his Stand Killer Queen. This Stand is able to transform just about anything or anyone in existence into a bomb, causing it to not just detonate but completely disappear. Its special move, Killer Queen Bites the Dust, lets the feline Stand send a miniature version of itself into the eye of a chosen target, blowing them up and eliminating them instantly. Not the more useful move for Kira's quest to collect women's severed hands, but it sure does help him avoid getting caught.

  (#17) The Dominator - 'Psycho-Pass'

  In the Psycho-Pass universe, only officers of the Public Safety Bureau are allowed to use this deadly weapon. The Dominator is a high tech gun that is wirelessly connected to the Sibyl System and determines whether its target is a threat to Japan's society. When aimed at the target, the Dominator reads and calculates its Crime Coefficient. If the Crime Coefficient exceeds a certian level, it will automatically switch into the Lethal Eliminator mode. This mode will instantly kill the target upon impact by causing the target to explode.

  (#18) Cannibalization - 'C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control'

  C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control is basically what you get if you take Yu-Gi-Oh! and make it about the economy. Characters use techniques known as "Flations" a term that probably refers to "Inflation." They have a wide range of effects, but right now we're going to focus on Cannibalization. This Flation is used by Q, Mikuni's partner and Asset. Cannibalization lets Q open up a giantic hole with teeth that devours everything in its path. She can either completely destroy her opponents, or steal their abilities - either way, she ends the attack feeling like she's had an especially tasty meal.
