  (#1) The Adventure Time Cast Has Pretty Openly Admitted To The Relationship

  At this point, Bubbline is basically canon. In an interview with fans, the voice of Marceline, Olivia Olsen, recounted a conversation she had with Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward. Olsen says that the creator asked her, "You know they dated, right?"

  Unfortunately, it is illegal to mention a romantic relationship between women in some of the countries where the show airs, so any overt reference to the relationship would negatively affect the show, allegedly. Rather than lose viewers, the show keeps the relationship covert. With the show nearing its end, however, the possibility remains that Marceline and Princess Bubblegum's relationship will soon go public.

  (#2) Bubblegum Is Too Sentimental About Marceline To Be Just Friends With Her

  In the episode "What Was Missing," it is revealed that Princess Bubblegum's great treasure is actually a band t-shirt that Marceline gave her. In the episode "Sky Witch," it's apparent that Bubblegum's attachment to the clothing item is deeper than we might have expected. It's similar to Finn's obsession with his lock of Bubblegum's hair.

  Apparently, Bubblegum passionately sniffs the tee in the morning when she wakes up. Members of a platonic relationship don't usually breathe in each other's scent to start the day.

  (#3) Marceline Basically Writes Bubblegum An Ode To Love

  In episode "What Was Missing," Marceline sings Princess Bubblegum a song filled with what can only be described as romantic tension. This is the first real glimpse into the Bubbline relationship that audiences get. From the ballad, the viewers can glean that the two used to be very close but had a falling out which still bothers Marceline.

  The Vampire Queen wants to make amends but doesn't think that her paramour feels the same way. Then it all gets too real for Marceline and she blushes in embarrassment. It's like the ultimate drama bomb.

  (#4) PB Knows Just How To Press Marceline's Buttons

  In episode "Broke His Crown," Marceline and Princess Bubblegum go on an adventure together to explore the inner workings of the Ice King's crown. Throughout the episode there are several awkward moments between the two, all alluding to a previous (or current) romantic relationship.

  In addition to Marceline commenting that the princess knows how to "push [her] buttons," PB grins knowingly when Marceline is asked about her love life. Marceline even blushes and dodges the question. The whole episode is reminiscent of someone introducing their significant other to their parents. It's like Marceline is bringing Bubblegum over for dinner with her foster father, the Ice King. They are even dressed for the occasion.

  (#5) The Show Often Comments On Their Shared Past

  The audience is usually only given glimmers of Marceline and Princess Bubblegum's history. It's apparent that they are both really old (about 1,000-years-old give or take). .

  In the episode "Varmints," though, the two reminisce about times past. We learn that the two used to be "very close" and that their falling out had to do with the ever-expanding workload that accompanies leadership in the Candy Kingdom. Because PB is such a control freak, it makes sense that her incalculable relationship with Marceline would end the way it did. The complex emotions explored in the episode make a lot more sense in a romantic context than a platonic one.

  (#6) Marceline Dreams About Princess Bubblegum

  In short, the Stakes miniseries follows Marceline as Bubblegum helps her overcome vampirism. Several vampires from the past get resurrected, Finn and Jake show up to help defeat them, and hilarity ensues. Besides all that, though, heavy subjects like maturation, relationships, and mortality are addressed.

  Throughout the miniseries, Marceline's dreams give insight into her inner turmoil. In one of the dreams, Marceline grows old with Princess Bubblegum, suggesting Marceline's desire to lead a normal domestic life with PB. They look like an old married couple except Princess Bubblegum is still young and immortal.

  (#7) They're Both Immortal, Which Makes Relationships Way Easier

  Mortality is heavily discussed in the Stakes miniseries. When Marceline decides to stop being a vampire, she also gives up her immortality. Princess Bubblegum tells her, "This means someday, you'll die. You know that right?" Marceline responds, "I guess it’ll be my last adventure!"

  The two continue their conversation and Princess Bubblegum conveys so much with so few words. Theirs is a relationship that will surpass even death. She notes:

  "You know I care about you. I think you’re making the right choice. Your natural lifespan is going to be richer and fuller than you can imagine. And someday, when you die, I’ll be the one who puts you in the ground."

  Finally, at the end of the series when Marceline becomes a vampire again despite her efforts to be human, she turns to PB and says, "Now I guess we get to hang out forever."

  (#8) Marceline Willingly Sacrifices Herself For Princess Bubblegum

  In the episode "Ketchup," Marceline tells the story of how she tried to save Princess Bubblegum in the events leading up to the Elements miniseries. As it turns out, Marceline was not immediately turned into Marshmeline the Campfire Queen by the candification curse.

  During show, Marceline tries desperately to resist the curse. She goes on an adventure to find an antidote that will save Bubblegum, only to find that PB is too far gone. Rather than live without her love, Marceline decides to give in and become candy herself. Now that's true devotion.

  (#9) Marceline Is Suspiciously Eager To Help Finn Make Bubblegum Jealous

  In one of the first episodes that explores Marceline and Princess Bubblegum's relationship, the two characters seem to dislike each other. The Vampire Queen even agrees to help Finn make Bubblegum jealous by pretending to be romantically involved with him.

  Though she claims that the prank will just "be funny," Marceline might also be trying to make Princess Bubblegum miss her. There seems to be a lot of unresolved emotion between them but Marceline is not the best at being vulnerable.

  (#10) Marceline Might Be Interested In Other Female Characters

  During the first episode of the Islands miniseries, The Invitation, Marceline is present on the beach to see Finn and Jake off on their adventure. When minor character Susan Strong walks by, Marceline definitely checks her out. Though she only looks at her for a few seconds, the glance suggests that she's interested in the fairer sex.

  (#11) Marceline Is The Only Person That Uses Bubblegum's First Name

  It seems a little strange that out of all the people in the land of Ooo, Marceline is the only one who refers to Princess Bubblegum on a first name basis. That is unless you consider the fact that they were in a serious romantic relationship.

  After a while, referring to your girlfriend as "Princess" would probably get old.

  (#12) Princess Bubblegum Has A Picture of Marceline In Her Closet

  In the episode "Sky Witch," Princess Bubblegum enters her private closet. Taped to the wall, in her most private of spots, is a picture that features PB and the Vampire Queen. People don't tend to hide platonic photographs.

  (#13) Marceline Has a Picture Of Princess Bubblegum On Her Fridge

  Similarly, in the episode "Ketchup,"it's discovered that Marceline keeps sentimental photographs too. Taped to her fridge is as a different snapshot of her and the fair ruler of the candy kingdom.

   

  This is just another subtle allusion to their romantic relationship.
