In the episode "Sky Witch," Princess Bubblegum enters her private closet. Taped to the wall, in her most private of spots, is a picture that features PB and the Vampire Queen. People don't tend to hide platonic photographs.
(#5) The Show Often Comments On Their Shared Past
The audience is usually only given glimmers of Marceline and Princess Bubblegum's history. It's apparent that they are both really old (about 1,000-years-old give or take). .
In the episode "Varmints," though, the two reminisce about times past. We learn that the two used to be "very close" and that their falling out had to do with the ever-expanding workload that accompanies leadership in the Candy Kingdom. Because PB is such a control freak, it makes sense that her incalculable relationship with Marceline would end the way it did. The complex emotions explored in the episode make a lot more sense in a romantic context than a platonic one.
(#8) Marceline Willingly Sacrifices Herself For Princess Bubblegum
In the episode "Ketchup," Marceline tells the story of how she tried to save Princess Bubblegum in the events leading up to the Elements miniseries. As it turns out, Marceline was not immediately turned into Marshmeline the Campfire Queen by the candification curse.
During show, Marceline tries desperately to resist the curse. She goes on an adventure to find an antidote that will save Bubblegum, only to find that PB is too far gone. Rather than live without her love, Marceline decides to give in and become candy herself. Now that's true devotion.
(#3) Marceline Basically Writes Bubblegum An Ode To Love
In episode "What Was Missing," Marceline sings Princess Bubblegum a song filled with what can only be described as romantic tension. This is the first real glimpse into the Bubbline relationship that audiences get. From the ballad, the viewers can glean that the two used to be very close but had a falling out which still bothers Marceline.
The Vampire Queen wants to make amends but doesn't think that her paramour feels the same way. Then it all gets too real for Marceline and she blushes in embarrassment. It's like the ultimate drama bomb.
(#4) PB Knows Just How To Press Marceline's Buttons
In episode "Broke His Crown," Marceline and Princess Bubblegum go on an adventure together to explore the inner workings of the Ice King's crown. Throughout the episode there are several awkward moments between the two, all alluding to a previous (or current) romantic relationship.
In addition to Marceline commenting that the princess knows how to "push [her] buttons," PB grins knowingly when Marceline is asked about her love life. Marceline even blushes and dodges the question. The whole episode is reminiscent of someone introducing their significant other to their parents. It's like Marceline is bringing Bubblegum over for dinner with her foster father, the Ice King. They are even dressed for the occasion.
(#10) Marceline Might Be Interested In Other Female Characters
During the first episode of the Islands miniseries, The Invitation, Marceline is present on the beach to see Finn and Jake off on their adventure. When minor character Susan Strong walks by, Marceline definitely checks her out. Though she only looks at her for a few seconds, the glance suggests that she's interested in the fairer sex.
