  Who among us hasn't dreamed of eating a gourmet meal while surrounded by frolicking deep sea creatures? For those who maybe saw The Little Mermaid a few too many times as a kid, this possibility now exists. Ithaa Undersea Restaurant is located in the Maldives, and has a glass-domed ceiling, which makes it possible for diners to bear witness to leisurely stingrays and schools of deep sea fish gliding over their heads while they're eating.

  The Yellow Treehouse is a pod-shaped restaurant that hangs out in one of New Zealand's famous redwood trees. At night, it lights up like a big, crazy-shaped light bulb and can be seen from miles away.

  's Baggers, a restaurant in Nuremberg, Germany, has kind of a confusing name, but what's really weird and confusing about it is the interior set-up, which is like a giant Rube Goldberg contraption. Nicknamed "the roller coaster restaurant," 's Baggers delivers food to customers' tables via a crazy network of interlocking metal track systems, like little railroad cars filled with tasty goodness.

  Sequestered away behind an unassuming hot dog restaurant, Please Don't Tell is one of the trickiest pubs for customers to get into in all of New York City. The only way to get in is by sidling inconspicuously into an old-fashioned phone booth tucked way into the back corner of New York's Crif Dogs, picking up the receiver, and asking the voice on the other end for permission to be granted access through a secret panel in the wall. Most nights, the bar is full, and it's usually a good idea to call ahead and make a reservation just to be safe – lots of people try for months and never make it inside.

  Dinner in the Sky is based in Belgium, but they provide service in many different locations. Diners are strapped into their chairs and levitated up to 180 feet in a "skybox" equipped with a dining table. There, they can look down on the city while enjoying their food - if the view doesn't make them too queasy, that is.

  Cabbages and Condoms is located in Bangkok, Thailand, and it is devoted to the promotion of safer sex. The whole restaurant is condom-themed, and when customers exit, they are bid farewell by a huge wall display box reading "Sorry, We Have No Mints Please Take a Condom Instead."

  Hajime Restaurant in Bangkok serves traditional Japanese food. The catch is that the food is served to you by robots dressed as Samurais. They even know how to dance!

  Two things Finland will probably never run out of are snow and ice. Capitalizing on this, one of the country's most popular tourist attractions is the Lainio Snow Village, an entire miniature town built igloo-style out of snow and ice - including a luxury hotel. The village features a restaurant with curving walls, bench seating, and tables all carved out of ice.

  Supposedly, Taiwan's Carton King was inspired by the owner's desire to impart a pro-environmental message about recycling and reuse. Instead of conventional decor and dishes, Carton King is made entirely out of recycled cardboard. The restaurant at Carton King is part of a larger attraction called "Carton King Creativity Park," which includes a number of attractions also related to cardboard.

  Located in Spain, Disaster Cafe lets you know what it feels like to be going about your day and suddenly experience an earthquake. At random times throughout the day, the whole restaurant and all its inhabitants are subjected to an artificial earthquake that shakes the walls, usually causing everyone to spill their drinks in unison. They must have the most annoyed cleanup crew in the world.

  Ninja New York serves traditional Japanese food, but its wait staff is decidedly non-traditional. As you may have guessed from the name, Ninja's waiters are all... well... ninjas. At least they're dressed like ninjas and are nimble enough to pull a few neat ninja tricks, like backflipping their way to your table, and doing an occasional fire trick.

  More of a full-blown nightclub than a restaurant, Robot is located in Tokyo's Shinjuku district. In addition to the full menu and bar, Robot features an elaborate, science fiction themed floor show, replete with neon LEDs, laser pointers, and giant metallic dinosaurs.

  Opaque is a Los Angeles restaurant that supposedly replicates the experience of being visually impaired. The dining area is kept in pitch blackness at all times, so diners have to rely on their other four senses to order, consume their food and drinks, and figure out how to get to the restroom.

  Attached to the H.R. Giger Museum in the artist's native Switzerland, the H.R. Giger Bar features interior design unlike any other. Giger is an accomplished illustrator of surreal horror imagery, and has also worked on costume design and special effects for a number of Hollywood films, including the Alien movies. The H.R. Giger Bar celebrates Giger's genius with elaborate seating, wall decorations, and scaffolding that mimic the artist's style - basically, the whole place looks like it's made out of Xenomorph skeletons. Pretty impressive (and unsettling).

  It's far from the most scandalous thing you'll encounter in Las Vegas, but Heart Attack Grill has still managed to stir up plenty of controversy. With its medical-themed decor, and its truly scandalous menu of ultra-fatty, triple-layered bacon cheeseburgers, Heart Attack doesn't just give you permission to live decadently - it recklessly eggs you on. Visiting customers can even take souvenir photos with the Grill's busty waitresses, while dressed in hospital gowns.

(We're guessing this is supposed to replicate a mental institution, maybe, rather than a prison? Or maybe this prison just likes to perform dastardly experiments on the prisoners. Who can say?)

  Witches in Britches (and its sister restaurant, Draculas) is a weird, kitsch-horror themed cabaret restaurant. Both Draculas and Witches in Britches offer live floor shows filled with fake blood and terrible vaudeville jokes to entertain diners while they enjoy their food. Both franchises got their start in Melbourne, Australia, but Draculas now has a location in Queensland as well.

  Twin Stars Diner in Moscow only hires identical twins - for absolutely everything. This includes wait staff, bartenders, and even kitchen crew. Supposedly, the restaurant's owner was inspired by a 1964 Soviet film called The Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors.

  Based in Taiwan, Modern Toilet is a restaurant with the somewhat nauseating premise of being excreta-themed. All of the dishes on the menu are designed to resemble typical bathroom output (curries, sausages, etc.) and are served from bowls and platters that resemble toilets. Even the restaurant itself is bathroom-themed - diners sit on toilets and eat off metal slabs that resemble a changing station.

Buns and Guns is a war-themed sandwich restaurant that offers sandwiches named after automatic weapons. Designed to salve the emotional wounds of the nation's citizens with humor, the restaurant's decor and employees' uniforms are also military themed. They even offer a vegetarian platter, smirkingly called the "Terrorist Meal."

  Most of the restaurants on this list are odd for a single, fairly clear reason, but Onkel Taa is odd in a number of ways. Its most distinguished claim to fame is as a museum, boasting one of the largest collections in the world related to Germany's Habsburg dynasty.

  The museum also contains several fossilized snails and other mollusks, which makes sense, because the restaurant's owner is totally obsessed with snails. Almost everything on the menu contains snails, and there is actually a snail-breeding facility located on the property. Just for an extra dash of weirdness, the property also boasts a mineral water spring, which supposedly has healing powers.

  (#25) The Hello Kitty Dream Restaurant

  Idol-themed restaurants like The Hello Kitty Dream Restaurant are common in Japan, but usually they're limited-time-only pop-ups that intentionally close after just a few months. The source of the Dream Restaurant's power is, obviously, Japanese icon Hello Kitty, but the restaurant is actually located in Beijing, China. Like many similar endeavors, the Dream Restaurant features decor, waitresses, specialty drinks, and menu items that are all exclusively Hello Kitty themed. A Kotaku reviewer described his experience there as "an overload of pink."

  Christon Cafe is a restaurant in Tokyo's fashionable Shinjuki district. Though it also contains some Buddhist iconography, it's mainly Catholic-themed. The vaguely gothic decor includes dozens of dangling crucifixes and a huge altar dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

  The Fortezza Medicea was originally constructed as a military fortress in Italy and is now a popular tourist attraction. The restaurant inside the Fort, Ristorante Millevini, is located in the part of the building that was previously used to house political prisoners. Upon request, diners can be served gourmet Italian food while locked inside barred cells.

  You may have thought Barbie was big in North America, but apparently she's really, really big in Taipei, Taiwan. Similar to Beijing's Hello Kitty Dream Cafe, Taipei's Barbie Restaurant is drenched in Pepto Bismol pink, and features waitresses, menu items, and decor inspired by the popular plastic doll.
