  (#1) Behind the Music (More Cowbell)

  Will Ferrell was also a master at making other cast members break. Ferrell’s fictional member of Blue Öyster Cult playing cowbell ends up totally crushing Jimmy Fallon with his Ferrell-ness. At first, the other castmates Mario Lopez, Chris Parnell, and Chris Kattan, hang in there but Fallon goes down once he and Ferrell are face to face. Ferrell falls on his own comedy sword.

  (#8) Hot Tub Lovers

  Rachel Dratch and Will Ferrell were hell-bent on being the most cringe-inducing couple as Roger and Virginia, the Love-ahs. In this hot tub sketch, they try to lure Jimmy Fallon’s character, as well as a fully-clothed Barbara Hernandez (Drew Barrymore), into a four way. Fallon, who looks like he was not present at rehearsal and is hearing all of this weird stuff for the first time, breaks a little more than midway through the sketch. Then Barrymore goes.

  Dratch and Ferrell lose it mid-way when they try to mutually nibble spiced meats. Fallon just can’t believe what he’s hearing and doesn’t even attempt to keep it together. Barrymore tries to hang in there. The next crash and burn happens two minutes from the end when Ferrell’s weird lilting voice and strange words make everyone bust. Dratch goes again at toward the end causing Ferrell to break and then it’s just on until the end of the sketch.

  (#14) Extremely Stupid PSA

  Gilda Radner and Candice Bergen were going along just fine until Bergen flubbed Radner’s character’s name. The sketch is a PSA about extremely stupid people where Bergen was supposed to be the smart one and Radner the stupid one. But Radner, who never broke, emphasized the lines in a way that made Bergen completely drop out of the sketch and just watch like she was at home. It’s more weird than funny which was what most critics said about pretty much all of season two.

  (#7) Stefon

  • Fictional Character

  In this Valentine’s Day tips segment on "Weekend Update," Bill Hader’s Stefon cracks himself up as usual. Breaking himself up was always part of this bit. Here, Stefon loses it at "Jewpids."

  (#4) Zagats Review

  Chris Farley and Adam Sandler together meant two things: It’s going to be funny/strange and someone is going to break - probably Sandler. During this straightforward bit where Farley reads from a Zagat guide dressed as his wife, all Sandler has to do is shout things to God. He’s fine until Farley rubs his leg. Then he breaks.

  (#5) Debbie Downer

  • Fictional Character

  Rachel Dratch took down everyone, including herself in this hilarious sketch featuring her character Debbie Downer. She couldn’t even nail her close-up, the bit that sells the sketch where Debbie buzzkills every joyous moment at this Disneyland vacation. Like comedy food poisoning, everyone is lost, along with host Lindsay Lohan. The downhill break-fest happens pretty quickly.

  Pretty much out of the gate, Fallon and Dratch crack and it’s a race to the bottom after that.
