  • Grimmjow Jaggerjack on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

    (#1) Grimmjow Jaggerjack

    • Bleach

The Arrancar named Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez humiliates Ichigo Kurosaki twice in battle during the Arrancar Invasion in Bleach. In their first encounter, Grimmjow impales Ichigo's best friend Rukia Kuchiki with his hand, then toys with the Soul Reaper for the remainder of their bout. While Ichigo does land a successful attack on Grimmjow — which leaves a visible scar on his torso — he fails to overcome his enemy, and is only spared because Kaname Tōsen intervenes and calls off the fight.

Even though Grummjow is missing an arm during their second battle, Ichigo still can't outmatch him. For a while, Ichigo has him on the ropes thanks to his Hollowfication powers, but once it breaks, Grimmjow manages to snatch victory a second time. This time, Ichigo is saved when Rukia temporarily freezes Grimmjow, giving the hero a chance to escape.

  • Crocodile on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

    (#2) Crocodile

    • Crocodile

The Italianate mob boss of Baroque Works, Crocodile, holds a special spot in One Piece history. He effortlessly defeats the rubber pirate Monkey D. Luffy not once, but twice during the Alabasta arc. What gives Crocodile the upper hand in his fight with Luffy is his Devil Fruit powers: he can turn his body into sand, allowing him to avoid taking physical damage.

Even without his powers, Crocodile would still be a formidable foe. His strategic mind and large poisonous hook are enough to make quick work of anyone who gets in his way. If not for pure luck, Luffy would have died during any of his three encounters with Crocodile. Even in their final bout, Luffy only comes out on top because of good luck. If the blood from Luffy's cut up fist didn't act as a suitable substitute for water, there's no way he could have exploited Crocodile's aversion to H20 to achieve victory.

  • Mad Pierrot Beats The Ever-Loving Crap Out Of Spike In 'Cowboy Bebop' on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

(#3) Mad Pierrot Beats The Ever-Loving Crap Out Of Spike In 'Cowboy Bebop'

Spike Spiegel is one of the most bad*ss anime characters around, there's no doubt about it. However, even tough guys like Spike go down every once in a while, and this is especially true if the enemy is a psychic killer clown infused with the cruelty of a child.

In what is perhaps the most terrifying and psychedelic episode of Cowboy Bebop, "Pierrot Le Fou" begins with Spike witnessing Mad Pierrot horrifically murder an official and his bodyguards outside a bar. Spike engages the assailant in a gun fight, but all efforts to fill Pierrot with lead prove futile, as he has a bulletproof forcefield covering his body. Just before Pierrot finishes Spike off for good, a toy cat triggers a painful memory for the killer, which gives the hero time to escape with his life.

  • Beerus Humbles Super Saiyan Goku in 'DBZ: Battle Of The Gods' on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

(#4) Beerus Humbles Super Saiyan Goku in 'DBZ: Battle Of The Gods'

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods marked the return of the legendary anime series on the big screen, after a 17-year absence. Battle of the Gods also expands the series mythos by introducing a character so strong that he can even take down the all-mighty Goku. Beerus, the Egyptian God of Destruction, is so powerful that he forces the ever-proud Vegeta to regularly humiliate himself throughout the film, as he threatens to destroy the Earth if the Saiyan resists.

Surprisingly, the proudest fighter in the film is actually Goku, as he ignores King Kai's warning about facing off against Beerus. As it turns out, King Kai was right; Beerus barely lifts a finger when fighting Goku, who gets taken down even after unleashing his Super Saiyan Three form.

Goku is able to go toe-to-toe with Beerus near the end of the film, once his friends help him achieve Super Saiyan God mode. However, he gains no pleasure from his victory, as he didn't achieve the immense power on his own. When Beerus defeats Goku, it's a humbling experience, as the Super Saiyan God learns that he needs to appreciate the help of his friends. Luckily, Beerus ends up as another kooky friend to the Z fighters, so they (hopefully) won't have to take him on again in the future.

  • Toguro on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

    (#5) Toguro

    • Yu Yu Hakusho

The Dark Tournament arc of YuYu Hakusho is crucial to the emotional development of Yusuke Urameshi. For alll his sardonic retorts, Yusuke finds himself speechless once he sees Toguro come back from the dead to reveal his true strength. Toguro faked his death during Yusuke's last mission, so he could collect the riches from a bet he placed against himself. He gives Yusuke an ultimatum: participate in the Dark Tournament, or see all his loved ones die.

In the anime, Toguro intimidates Yusuke by destroying an unfinished building with only 60% of his power. Throughout the tournament, Yusuke struggles to reach a power level high enough to equal Toguro's, but even after a ton of intense training, he struggles to take down the villain (who's still holding back his real power). Yusuke only manages to defeat a fully powered up Togouro after he sees his enemy kill his best friend, Kazuma Kuwabara,

  • Legato Breaks Vash's Spirit In 'Trigun' on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

(#6) Legato Breaks Vash's Spirit In 'Trigun'

Legato Bluesummers may seem like an odd choice, as he's ultimately killed by Vash the Stampede, but this victory is horrifically bittersweet. Legato forces Vash to brake his "no killing" rule, destroying the only thing that keeps his memory of Rem Saverem alive.

In this particularly dark episode of TrigunVash is forced into a no-win situation; he has to kill Legato point blank, or else Legato will have Vash's friends, Milly and Meryl, killed. Legato dies with a smile on his face, as he knows that his death will haunt Vash for the rest of his life. Indeed, the aftermath leaves Vash in a deep depression that he almost doesn't come out of.

  • Tao Pai Pai on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

    (#7) Tao Pai Pai

    • Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure

While Goku is nearly unstoppable during the early run of the original Dragon Ball series, the young warrior meets his match during the Red Ribbon Army saga. A deadly assassin named Mercenary Tao quickly defeats Goku, and steals almost all of the Dragon Balls he collected throughout his journey.

Before he takes down Goku, Tao kills a Native man named Bora right in front of his son Upa. The death of Bora motivates Goku to become a stronger fighter, and convinces him to say goodbye to his grandfather's four-star Dragon Ball so that he can use all seven to resurrect Bora's dad.

  • Barry The Chopper Almost Dice Up Ed And Winry Into Tiny Pieces In 'Fullmetal Alchemist' on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

(#8) Barry The Chopper Almost Dice Up Ed And Winry Into Tiny Pieces In 'Fullmetal Alchemist'

Given how overpowered the average shonen protagonist is, it's easy to forget that many anime heroes are also children. That's why the original Fullmetal Alchemist series stands out so much; the 2003 anime highlights the fragility of the show's young, hot-blooded heroes. In the eighth episode, "The Philosopher's Stone," the normally cool Edward Elric is made to scream for dear life as he struggles to save himself and his childhood friend, Winry Rockbell, from a serial killer named Barry the Chopper, who kidnaps them in his butcher van.

In a moment of desperation, Ed comes close to killing Barry, but his younger brother Alphonse intervenes just in time. The kidnapping incident — which (at the time) marked the closest anyone had come to killing Ed — leaves a deep emotional scar on the elder Elric brother. If the duo are serious about pursuing the Philosopher's stone, they need to be ready to put their lives on the line.

  • Raditz on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

    (#9) Raditz

    • Dragon Ball Z

Scenes wherein the villains completely own the good guys are a staple of Dragon Ball Z. However, the first DBZ villain to do so was Goku's biological brother, Raditz. The first episode of DBZ begins with Raditz landing on Earth and crashing Goku's get-together with family and friends. After introducing himself to his long-lost brother, Raditz takes out Goku with one hit and kidnaps his crybaby son Gohan.

To save Gohan, Goku joins forces with his former rival Piccolo, but even their combined might isn't enough to defeat the Saiyan warrior. Raditz only goes down after Gohan hits him with a sucker punch of spiritual power, and Goku sacrifices himself by restraining his brother during Piccolo's Makankōsappō attack.

The true killer, Nui Harime, is more of a threat than her bubbly personality and regal appearance suggest.

The happy-go-lucky psychotic toys with Ryūko during their first fight, constantly mocking her and reveling in her father's death. Ryūko becomes so consumed with anger that it alters her Kamui uniform, Senketsu, and transforms her into a monster. The incident leaves Ryūko scarred, and causes her to hold back during her second match with Nui, which results in her defeat.

  • Orochimaru on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

    • Naruto, Naruto Shippūden, Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Bonds, Ninja World

Sasuke Uchiha is considered the best ninja student in Naruto, but his fateful encounter with Orochimaru in the Forest of Death forever changed his life. Orochimaru is in disguise — he takes the face of a dead ninja he recently killed to mask his own — but that didn't stop him from using his trademark snake summon to intimidate Sasuke.

Realizing he's outmatched, Sasuke finds himself locked into the same terrified pose Naruto exhibits when he was attacked by the Demon Brothers. Naruto does appear to save Sasuke and offer encouragement, but he's quickly incapacitated by Orochimaru. Luckily, Naruto's arrival gives Sasuke a second wind he desperately needed, and he unleashes his Dragon Fire Technique on Orochimaru to partially burns off his disguise. In the end, Orochimaru doesn't kill Sasuke, but brands him with the Cursed Seal of Heaven, which leads the protagonist down the path of evil.

  • Vincent Bari Overwhelms Zatch In 'Zatch Bell' on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

(#12) Vincent Bari Overwhelms Zatch In 'Zatch Bell'

The underrated anime series Zatch Bell took the Pokémon formula of raising monsters to do battle and swapped in superhuman marionettes. While the show's character design and sense of humor are often over-the-top, the series also has some seriously dark moments, such as the fight between Zatch and Vincent Bari

Bari fights Zatch because he hopes that the protagonist will be able to match his power. Zatch puts up an incredible fight, but eventually finds himself overwhelmed by the insane strength of Bari. Not even Zatch's signature finishing move, the Bao Zakeruga spell, is enough to take out Bari.

In the end, Zatch and his human handler, Kiyo Takamine, can barely move a muscle. However, Zatch is spared because his unrelenting attitude inspires Bari to win the Mamodo Battle tournament and become a strong king. Zatch and Kiyo survive, but the devastating loss hits them hard.

  • Inosuke Almost Gets Squeezed To Death In 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba' on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

(#13) Inosuke Almost Gets Squeezed To Death In 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba'

Inosuke is a character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba who isn't afraid of anything. He'll gladly challenge anyone who crosses his path, no matter how strong they are. But when he's face-to-face with the Father Spider Demon on Natagumo Mountain, he gravely underestimates the demon's ridiculous physical strength. Although Inosuke manages to get in a few hits, he is quickly overwhelmed by the demon who is barely fazed. And just when it seems Inosuke is getting squeezed to death, Giyu Tomioka comes to the rescue. This fight left Inosuke, someone who's usually loud and full of energy, depressed and quiet for a few days after.

  • Faust VIII on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

    (#14) Faust VIII

In a world of hyperactive, loud-mouthed anime protagonists, Yoh Asakura from Shaman King is a wonderful outlier. Yoh chillaxes his way to victory, and keeps his cool during fights that would make most cut and run. However, during Yoh's bout with Faust VIII and his departed partner, Eliza Faust, the lazy medium finds himself in a surprising state of desperation and rage.

The shaman doctor Faust overpowers Yoh with his ability to manipulate the dead. Faust sends hordes of skeleton soldiers after Yoh, while experimenting on Yoh's best friend Manta Oyamada (Mortimer in the English dub). It takes all of Yoh's spiritual energy to free himself from the skeleton ambush and deliver a significant blow to Faust's undead puppet Eliza, but in the end, he can't overcome Faust's immense power. The loss serves to invalidate Yoh's philosophy of "whatever happens, happens," and almost destroys his relationship with Manta, as he blames himself for putting the boy in danger.

Throughout the series, each gains the upper hand against the other, which motivates them both to become stronger, and eventually they join forces.

Before they reach this amicable conclusion, there's a considerable amount of bloodshed. In episode one, the rebellious Kazuma tries to take on Ryūhō, who easily defeats him. However, Ryūhō doesn't get to cherish his victory against Kazuma for long, as Kazuma later becomes strong enough to go toe-to-toe with him.

  • Team Velshtein Demolishes Team Satomi In 'IGPX' on Random Anime Villains Destroyed The Good Guy In A Fight

(#16) Team Velshtein Demolishes Team Satomi In 'IGPX'

Mechs aren't just for battling, they're also for racing. The Toonami anime series Immortal Grand Prix stars Team Satomi, a rag-tag squad of robotic racers who are obliterated by Team Velshtein, the season one favorite.

The actual race is over pretty quickly, but the ugly aftermath is displayed in all its horror at the beginning of the episode "Come Together." Team Satomi never stood a chance racing against the elite Team Velshtein and their destructive bots. As humiliating as their defeat is, it only makes the heroes work harder to achieve victory.

Eventually, the fight ends with Hisoka as the clear victor. This is a great fight since fans can look forward to their next match when Gon is finally strong enough for Hisoka.

(#18) Kogami Can Barely Get A Single Hit On Makishima In 'Psycho-Pass'

The fated first encounter between these two enemies resulted in an amazing fight sequence that showed just how skilled and invincible Makishima is. However, Kogami can barely get a single hit on Makishima as he blocks all of his attacks with ease. If it wasn't for Akane showing up at the very end, Makishima would have ended Kogami's life right then and there.
