  • El Paso High School - El Paso on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#1) El Paso High School - El Paso

El Paso High School is located in a very impressive building that opened for classes in 1916. The "Lady on the Hill," as it is known, has seen dozens of the most prominent citizens of El Paso, and the school's sports teams have won countless trophies and honors that line the corridors.

But the school is also known to be haunted. Hallways and balconies have been closed off because of strange sightings throughout the school's history. There are even two sealed-up classrooms in the basement that were abandoned in such a hurry, personal belongings and trash were never even removed - and no one can explain why this is.

  • Stagecoach Road - Marshall on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

    (#2) Stagecoach Road - Marshall

Some people believe that Stagecoach Road in Marshall is undoubtedly haunted. A woman drove down the road in the middle of the night in a pick-up truck. She decided to stop for a moment to scare the people with her, turning off all the lights and opening all her car windows.

However, she felt a pressure on her truck bed and decided to leave immediately. When morning came, she found weird, scarlet-colored dust on her truck, with tiny handprints. None of the people in her car had small hands.

  • Texas Killing Fields - Texas City on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#3) Texas Killing Fields - Texas City

The Texas Killing Fields are modern-day creepy. This 50-mile desolate patch of extremely rural Texas between Houston and Galveston has seen over 30 young women and children go missing since the 1970s. Only a few have been identified.

The area has been described as the perfect place to commit murder and get away with it, and the sheer eerie feel of this southern Texas expanse is enough to get it on this list.

  • USS Lexington - Corpus Christi on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#4) USS Lexington - Corpus Christi

The USS Lexington is docked in Corpus Christi and today serves as a museum for those interested in learning about military history. Commissioned in 1943, the Blue Ghost, as she was known, served in 21 of the 24 naval battles that took place during her time in the Second World War.

A Japanese plane once wrecked into the side of the ship, causing major damage and loss of life. Many of those who died were in the ship's engine room, and to this day, apparitions and screams can be seen and heard in the depths of the ship's machinery.

  • White Rock Lake - Dallas on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#5) White Rock Lake - Dallas

The Ghost of White Rock Lake is a tale that has been floating around since at least the 1930s. White Rock Lake is located just east of Dallas and was created by damming White Rock Creek back in 1911. The story is that a woman in a dress - reminiscent of 1930s attire - flags down cars on the side of the highway.

She asks to be taken home, but the address is either that of a graveyard or an old couple whose daughter has long since passed.

  • F. W. Schuerenberg House - Brenham on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

    (#6) F. W. Schuerenberg House - Brenham

As far as haunted houses go, the F. W. Schuerenberg House in Brenham definitely delivers. While it might not be quite a real-life edition of American Horror Story, there have been reports that this historic mansion, built in 1895, is haunted by two ghosts, if not more.

There have been sightings of a young girl in old-fashioned clothing peering out from a window on the first floor, and the fact that the house was the setting for a tragic suicide in the upstairs nursery definitely makes it all the more spooky.

  • Yorktown Memorial Hospital - Yorktown on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#7) Yorktown Memorial Hospital - Yorktown

About 75 miles southeast of San Antonio is a facility that would be more surprising if it weren't haunted. Yorktown Memorial Hospital has been closed since 1988, after providing four decades of service to the community. In those 40 years, the hospital saw something in the region of 2,000 deaths, not all of them peaceful.

The hospital was also reopened for a short time as a drug rehab center. During this time, the body of a man named T.J. was dumped on the doorstep. After passing from a heroin overdose, T.J. (along with a couple of earlier murder victims) patrols this abandoned hospital at night, forever restless.

  • Victoria's Black Swan Inn - San Antonio on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#8) Victoria's Black Swan Inn - San Antonio

Building a hotel on the site of a bloody battle just isn't the most advisable thing in the world. Victoria's Black Swan Inn is built right on top of the grounds of the Battle of Salado Creek in San Antonio. This battle was fought in 1842 between volunteers of the Texas Republic and the Mexican army. The dead from the battle are said to scream at night.

As if that wasn't enough, the Inn is also said to be on the site of an old Indian burial ground from as long as 5,000 years ago. Again, history has shown that building on Native American land is asking for trouble. No wonder there are regularly sold-out ghost tours at the inn.

  • Driskill Hotel - Austin on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

    (#9) Driskill Hotel - Austin

The Driskill is the oldest operating hotel in Austin and one of the best-known hotels in Texas. This Romanesque-style building is the work of Col. Jesse Driskill and was completed in 1886. The dream of Driskill, a cattleman by trade, was to build "the finest hotel south of St. Louis."

Driskill spent his fortune on the building, but he was only able to keep it in business for less than a year because this very upscale hotel was too expensive for the cattlemen and ranchers who then populated what was still a Wild West town.

Driskill died a broken man, and his ghost is said to haunt guests to this day. In addition, Room 525 is known as the room of the suicide brides. It is believed that two young women took their lives in this room on their honeymoons, 20 years apart.

  • The Baker Hotel - Mineral Wells on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#10) The Baker Hotel - Mineral Wells

The Baker Hotel is an old building that is now stunningly out of place in its community. The idea for the hotel was first conceived in 1922 - when residents of Mineral Wells grew tired of out-of-towners profiting from their mineral water industry. The hotel took seven years to build and went through many design changes. It eventually stood 14 stories tall, had an Olympic-sized swimming pool, two ballrooms, and a bowling alley. The hotel was the first skyscraper to be built outside of a major metropolitan area and cost $1.2 million in 1929. The hotel has been closed since 1972.

The major haunting here is the woman on the seventh floor. Thought to be the mistress of one of the hotel managers, she jumped to her death at an unverified point in time. As early as the 1950s, guests reported seeing, hearing, and feeling this woman in the hotel.

  • Spaghetti Warehouse - Houston on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

    (#11) Spaghetti Warehouse - Houston

The Spaghetti Warehouse building in Houston is often named one of the most haunted in Texas. The building has an odd history. It was originally built as the Desel-Boettcher Warehouse in the early 1900s, before the Dallas-based Spaghetti Warehouse chain bought it for their second location in 1974. It was then quickly filled with a myriad of old antiques and collectibles, including a staircase from a European castle.

Those antiques may have brought their own ghosts with them, but the building already had one of its own. A pharmacist plunged to his death down an elevator shaft back in the early history of the facility. His wife, heartbroken, passed a year later and now patrols the second floor of the warehouse looking for her husband.

  • Woman Hollering Creek - Guadalupe Co. on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#12) Woman Hollering Creek - Guadalupe Co.

This central Texas creek has its own legend and story. The name itself comes from a loose interpretation of the Spanish name for the creek: "La Llorona," or "The Weeping Woman." According to legends, a woman drowned her newborn child in the creek, either because her husband didn't want the baby or because he ran off with another woman.

Driving over Woman Hollering Creek on I-10, you would have no idea that the woman's spirit has been seen down on the banks below.

  • The Grove - Jefferson on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

    (#13) The Grove - Jefferson

The Grove (or the Stilley-Young House, as it is also known) may not look like much, but it is often cited on lists of the scariest places in America. The historic home was built in 1861 and blends Greek and Creole architecture in a unique and handsome way. Unexplained events, however, have plagued the Grove. In fact, a restaurant was on the verge of opening in the space when a lady in white walked into the power room and never came out. A search found no woman in the building.

Odd smells, noises, and visions are common at The Grove, with many linking the disturbances to the murder of a Northern carpetbagger and his men during the Reconstruction Era

This garrison was also the location of the Goliad massacre in 1836. There were 342 men killed on that day and for a time "Remember the Goliad" was as important as "Remember the Alamo." Today, guests on the tour report hearing cannon shots, screams, and random bells ringing from the old chapel.

  • Plaza Theatre on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

    (#15) Plaza Theatre

    • Theatre

The Plaza Theatre in El Paso isn't quite the setting for the Phantom of the Opera, but it's pretty close. There is more than one apparition allegedly haunting the establishment. According to lore, you can hear her laughing as she bounces her ghoulish ball down the steps.

  • The Menger Hotel - San Antonio on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

(#16) The Menger Hotel - San Antonio

Supposedly, there are many spirits residing at the Menger Hotel, including the ghost of President Theodore Roosevelt. Because Roosevelt used to trick men into joining his volunteer cavalry at the Menger Hotel bar, it comes as no surprise that some people still encounter his ghost throwing back a few drinks.

It is said you can also see the spirit of a murdered chambermaid wandering the halls, along with a wealthy ranch owner who spent his last months at the hotel.

    (#17) Magoffin Homestead

    • Place

The historic Magoffin Homestead, built in 1875, was purchased by the city of El Paso in 1976, but apparently, the home wasn't empty when they did so. The house is open for tours, so if you're curious, you can go try and find any of the four ghosts.

  • Baylor University - Waco on Random Weirdest And Most Haunted Places In Texas

    (#18) Baylor University - Waco

Baylor University in Waco, Texas, claims to be one of the most haunted universities in the world. The library still contains many of the possessions of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The story is that the female poet values her possessions and works so much that she haunts the building. She has been seen in the shadows of the upper windows looking out on the campus grounds on many occasions.
