About This Tool

Smithsonian Folkways is a non-profit record company. It is part of the Smithsonian’s Smithsonian folk and Cultural Heritage Center and is located in the Capital Museum of Art in downtown Washington, D. C. Its main mission is to study, collect and preserve contemporary grass-roots culture in the United States and from around the world. To date, a total of 172 folk artists have contributed works to the Smithsonian Folkways, and detailed information is stored in this random tool for easy viewing.

The Smithsonian Folkways artists who generate these pieces come from different eras, but they are all involved in the Smithsonian Folkways campaign as a public interest event. The center’s offices are in the Capital Gallery building on Maryland Avenue, next to the National Mall in Washington. Every year, it attracts different artists from all over the world to visit, exchange and contribute to the arts and culture industry.
