(#1) The Correct Subtitles
From Redditor u/DoodlyWedge:
When Ransom says "stupid with two 'o's", the subtitles use his spelling.
-
(#2) Benoit Blanc Takes Notice
From Redditor u/ockpii:
Benoit Blanc mentions he knew about a small detail all along. In the beginning of the movie, he is seen noticing the very detail.
He noticed a drop of blood on her shoes
-
(#3) Reflections
From Redditor u/random_guy_somewhere:
Knives Out (2019) had many closeups of characters with eyeglasses, so the production cleverly sculpted mattes to reshape lighting equipment into scenery you'd realistically expect to see reflected in the glasses.
-
(#4) Pleased Portrait
From Redditor u/Sophia_Ria:
In Knives Out (2019), the portrait of the deceased has a subtle change after the murder has been solved... a smirk.
-
(#5) Email Encryption
From Redditor u/UBlisteringBarnacles:
When Ransom is sending the anonymous email, he is shown using the real Swiss based end-to-end encrypted email service provider ProtonMail to keep his identity untraceable.
-
(#6) Black Eye Busted
From Redditor u/Wackipaki:
In Knives Out (2019) spouse infidelity is exposed at the end and although the actual confrontation is not shown on screen but the very last scene you see the cheating spouse with a very visible black eye.
-
(#7) Even The BluRay Cover Is Clever
From Redditor u/dahuskyhunk:
If you get the slipcover of the steelbook flip it around, it points to a very specific character...
-
(#8) Prop Knife In
From Redditor u/why-yall-mad:
Early in the movie, while ranting about Ransom to Marta, Harlan says “...playing life like a game without consequences. Until you can’t tell the difference between a stage prop and a real knife.”
-
(#9) The Fanboy
From Redditor u/Melospiza:
When Ransom stabs Marta, we see the other characters' reactions of horror and shock, except for Trooper Wagner, who's calm. Wagner is shown to be a huge fan of Harlan's, so he knows the knife is a fake, and is probably thrilled to witness a murder attempt using the circle of knives in the author's house. This isn't the first time in the movie where he lets his fanboyism get the better of his professionalism.
-
(#10) The Music In The Bar
From Redditor u/thisisnotmath:
When Marta and Ransom are talking in the bar, the song in the background is "Sundown" by Gordon Lightfoot. The refrain is "When I find you've been creepin' round my back stairs" and references how they both climb down the trellis.
-
(#11) Invisible Ink Accuracy
From Redditor u/Samori206:
We see a letter that appears to be blank, but later is revealed to have invisible ink. For a few frames, you can see the light passing through the letter revealing hidden writing, meaning the crew actually wrote a message in invisible ink on the letter just for continuity.
-
(#12) Foreground Foreshadowing
From Redditor u/EternallyXIII:
Early in the movie when Harlan is discussing the family with Marta, a knife can be seen in the foreground across his throat as he says the killer's name.
-
(#13) Harlan's OS
From Redditor u/Tolkfan:
The laptop of 85-year-old Harlan is still running on Windows XP
-
(#14) Fire Damage
From Redditor u/diamonddurbin:
There are burn marks on the letter from where Linda had used a flame to reveal the invisible ink the letters were written in. This is after we see Richard (Don Johnson) dismiss one of the letters as it appeared to be blank.
-
(#15) 'Sleuth' Callback
From Redditor u/SushiWithoutSushi:
Director Rian Johnson declared that one of the main inspirations from the movie was Sleuth (1972). In the first scene of the movie you can see the Sailor doing a cameo in plain view.
-
(#16) Wreath Cameo
From Redditor u/chriswizardhippie:
The first time Detective Blanc made his famous donut analogy a wreath appears in the reflection of the passenger side window which is shaped like a donut.
-
(#17) 'The New Yorker' Reveals All
From Redditor u/JustBronzeThighsLoL:
The person who hires Blanc is possibly foreshadowed.
When Marta goes to Ransom's house after receiving the blackmail letter, Ransom reads the letter. On the table in front of him, you can see several copies of The New Yorker, mentioned earlier by Ransom's mother and Aunt (?) as having an article about Blanc.
-
(#19) Brick Is Back
From Redditor u/jordanjwoodson:
During the car chase in Knives Out (2019), you can see the tunnel symbol from director Rian Johnson's first feature Brick (2005) spray painted in the alley.
