The Leo XIII was the first bourgeois pope. 1831 holds a Ph. D. in theology and is a priest at 1837. Bishop of Perugia in 1846. 1853, a cardinal, continued to serve in the Diocese of Perugia, and the 1877, as purser, opened the Vatican’s collections to encourage research on the Bible. 1878 became pope in February, the first pope to be elected after the Vatican lost the Papacy.
