Born in Batra, Missouri, Robert Anthan Heinlein attended the University of Missouri, where he attended the Annapolis Naval Academy in 1925 and spent five years in the Navy as a noncommissioned officer on aircraft carriers and destroyers. Heinlein is a well-known American science fiction writer and a master of hard science fiction.
