  • Saitama on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#1) Saitama

As many fans know, Saitama can defeat anyone, no matter how outlandishly strong, with a single punch. But unlike a lot of shows, One Punch Man isn't really about Saitama's pursuit of strength - it's about the problems that arise from being too strong. In Saitama's case, the problems are twofold.

The first is that no one seems to give him any credit for his strength - since it's so extreme and has no real explanation, his feats are usually pinned on someone else, and he gets blamed for the problems. The second, larger problem is that it's hard to feel satisfied with his victories when they come too easily. That's actually why some of the villains come to fight him - he's the only worthy opponent they've ever come across, and they're bored out of their minds on victories that mean nothing.

  • Ainz Ooal Gown - 'Overlord' on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

(#2) Ainz Ooal Gown - 'Overlord'

Once a human playing a video game that suddenly became his real life, Ainz Ooal Gown is now a gigantic skeleton guild master who is one of the strongest people in his universe. While most Level 100 players can only learn 300 spells, Ainz knows a whopping 718. Amongst these skills are absolutely world-bending ones like Meteor Fall, which sends literal meteors hurtling from the sky, and The Goal of All Life is Death, which instantly destroys every living thing within range. There's also one of Ainz's personal favorites, Grasp Heart, which allows him to take hold of his enemy's actual heart and crush it in his hands.

Unlike most of the characters on this list, Ainz is a villain protagonist, so he isn't necessarily using these outlandish powers for good.

  • Rimuru Tempest - 'That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime' on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

(#3) Rimuru Tempest - 'That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime'

Though he's constantly underestimated because of his slime form, Rimuru Tempest of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is totally OP. His main ability, Predator, allows him to absorb any organic or inorganic material, analyze it, and replicate its powers. This gives him a nearly unlimited number of potential abilities, all of which culminate into one of the strongest characters the world of anime has ever seen.

Rimuru doesn't just have OP powers, though - he's also a great negotiator whose emotions almost never get the better of him. That's why everyone in his world has so much respect for him once they get to know him.

  • Tatsuya Shiba on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#4) Tatsuya Shiba

    • The Irregular at Magic High School

Because Tatsuya Shiba scores poorly on his entrance exam into First High School, he's initially sorted into the 'Second Class.' This leads others to underestimate him, and it also leads him to underestimate himself. That said, no one should be underestimating Tatsuya, because he's stupidly strong. He can't do systemic magic especially well, but he has unique magic skills that surpass just about everyone elses. He has the highest recorded Psion count, which means that he can perform Gram Demolition counter magic, as well as other powerful spells. He can use Decomposition, a spell that breaks apart matter at its most basic structure, which he can percieve using Elemental Sight. He can also reform destroyed things using Regrowth. He can also use his extreme intelligence to create new forms of magic.

This guy is so powerful that the idea that anyone thought for even one second that he wasn't good enough to make it in the 'First Class' is laughable.

  • Koro-sensei on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#5) Koro-sensei

    • Assassination Classroom

Koro-sensei is so strong that it's actually not possible to defeat him unless he allows it, which is exactly what happens in the show. This guy can move at Mach 20, which is about as close as you can get to teleporting without literally teleporting. Because he's made of anti-matter, he can't be impacted by normal weapons, only anti-matter weapons, and he can defend against those easily with a protective layer of mucus. He can liquify his body to fit ito small spaces, nullify poisons, and can regenerate injured body parts. The guy even knows how to do surgery!

He does have a few weakesses, as discovered by Class 3-E, but those weaknesses are largely comprised of things like being bad at drawing or getting overly excited about gossip.

  • Sora & Shiro - 'No Game No Life' on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

(#6) Sora & Shiro - 'No Game No Life'

Sora and Shiro are the sibling duo who make up Blank, a team of gamers who can easily wipe the floor with any opponent. In their own world, this skill has limited use. Sure, they're amazing gamers, but that doesn't really matter when Shiro is too afraid of people to go to school and Sora can't bring himself to get a job or go to college.

It's when they're transported to Disboard, a world in which everything is determined by games, that they can truly shine. In fact, they rapidly gain so much power through a series of strategic wins that they've basically taken political control over the entire world.

  • Hajime Nagumo - 'Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest'  on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

(#7) Hajime Nagumo - 'Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest'

Given the title Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest, you can expect that the protagonist is going to end up being pretty OP. Hajime Nagumo begins his life in a fantasy world with one relatively useless transmutation skill. But when he falls to the bottom of an abyss, things change dramatically. While there, he eats the flesh of just about every monster he comes across, and goes through a painful physical and mental transformation.

While he does lose an eye and an arm, he gains super strength, super speed, super endurance, and super intelligence. Besides these standard powerups, he also gets some crazy unique abilities such as 108 Harassment Demon King-style - "The Demon King is So Red Like", which allows him to send metal dust inside of people's blood cells, which cause immense pain when they shed those cells. There's also Deny All Existences, which allows him to totally erase a being or concept or object from existence.

These are only a few examples of an absurdly long list of abilities. Basically, this boy can do anything.

  • Lelouch Lamperouge on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#8) Lelouch Lamperouge

    • Code Geass

Unlike some of the characters on this list, Lelouch only has one supernatural power. That power is the Geass, an eye-based power that allows him to issue one command that the target has no choice but to obey. If that were all Lelouch could do, he might not qualify for this list... but he also has extreme tactical skills that allow him to not only become the head of a guerilla organization but also to make that organization more successful than its ever been under any other leadership. What's more, he knows how to man a mecha perfectly without really needing a learning curve to accomplish it. Sure, he doesn't have an impossible list number of magical powers, but by god does he make the most of what he's got.

  • Senku Ishigami - 'Dr. Stone' on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

(#9) Senku Ishigami - 'Dr. Stone'

One doesn't have to be physically strong to be totally OP. Senku Ishigami might not be able to throw down in a fight, but his intelligence more than makes up for it. Senku has an encyclopedic knowledge of every form of science, and he has the brain power to apply to it any situation, no matter how terrifying. As a child, he was building functional rocket ships, and when he was frozen in stone for thousands of years he somehow managed to spend all of that time counting down the seconds so he could make sure not to emerge during the winter and damn his chances of survival.

Without his OP intelligence, chances are high that he and a lot of other people would have passed away before the story could even get started.

  • Mob Kageyama - 'Mob Psycho 100' on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#10) Mob Kageyama - 'Mob Psycho 100'

On the outside, Mob Kageyama appears to be an ordinary middle schooler. Despite his appearances, he actually has some pretty extreme psychic powers. While the full extent of his abilities have yet to be revealed, they're already super impressive. He has telekinesis, the ability to unleash bursts of psychic energy, the ability to temporarily bestow his powers on others, the ability to astrally project his spirit, the ability to manipulate plantlife, and more.

These powers are typically held back by his powerful emotions. However, when faced with stress, he starts making progress toward a psychic explosion. Extreme stress can make the progress escalate. Once he's unlocked his full power, it's difficult for him to control, but he has very few limits as to what he's capable of.

  • Saiki Kusuo - 'The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K.' on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

(#11) Saiki Kusuo - 'The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K.'

If you're looking for a character with just about every power in existence, you've found it in Saiki Kusuo. He can teleport, read minds, manipulate elements, talk to animals, repair broken objects, predict the future... the list goes on.

His powers do have drawbacks. One of the biggest is that he can't always fully control them. Saiki wants to live a normal life, but his powers are constantly creating problems for him. Sometimes they're annoying problems like having a TV show spoiled because he's read the ending in someone else's mind, but sometimes it's major problems like accidentally teleporting his classmates into the middle of the ocean. Hey, no one ever said being OP was easy.

  • Kirito on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#12) Kirito

    • Sword Art Online, Sword Art Online

While some characters are OP in a way that enhances the plot, Kirito's excess power is generally considered annoying. Because he's a Beta Tester for Sword Art Online, his level is already close to being maxed out by the time the series begins. During his various fights, he doesn't seem to struggle much against even the most powerful enemies. Also, during the final fight at the end of Season 2, he is randomly granted 'admin powers' that allow him to force Oberon to experience physical pain, where before he was shielded from it.

While it makes sense that Kirito was stronger than a lot of the other players due to his beta testing experience, the 'admin powers' thing happens for no explicable reason. Kirito's OP powers are actually one of the biggest criticisms that many people have about Sword Art Online.

  • Goku on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#13) Goku

    • Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler, Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge, Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies, Dragon Ball: The Path to Power, Plan to Destroy the Saiya-jin, Dragon Ball: Ssawora Son Goku, Igyeora Son Goku, Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins, Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, Dragon Ball Z: Bardock – The Father of Goku, Dragonball Evolution, Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly, Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, Dragon Ball Z the Movie: The World's Strongest, Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!, Dragon Ball

Obviously, the legendary Saiyan had to have a spot on this list! Goku is so strong that it's just about impossible to imagine anyone defeating him.

He has a wide range of powers that only increase as the series progresses. Perhaps the most noteworthy is his Kamehameha, which is an energy blast that is shot out of two cupped hands. Equally well-known are his transformations, which dramatically increase his strength, speed, endurance, and more. The most iconic is the Super Saiyan transformation, but it's definitely not the only one: there's Ultra Instinct, God Mode, Super Saiya 3, and more.

Goku also has some lesser-known powers, like telepathy, teleportation, and regeneration. Basically, you do not want to mess with this guy.

  • Medaka Kurokami on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#14) Medaka Kurokami

    • Medaka Box

Medaka Kurokami is ludicrously OP, which is kind of the point of the show. Her abilities are so numerous that it's impossible to list them all - but here's a quick overview. She has an Abnormality (the canon term for power) called The End, which allows her to learn literally any other Abnormality she comes across, and improve on it by around 20%. Thanks to this ability, she can do things like take control of the electrical signals of another person's brain, read minds, and conceal weapons that are larger than her own body. She also has a ton of other inherent skills, such as combat expertise, the ability to move at supersonic speeds, and infinite stamina.

But her biggest power of all is probably her extreme good luck, which in this very meta show derives directly from her status as a protagonist.

  • Madoka Kaname on Random Ridiculously Overpowered Anime Protagonists Who Almost Never Los

    (#15) Madoka Kaname

    • Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Madoka Magica Movie 1, Madoka Magica Movie 2, Puella Magi Madoka Magica

When Puella Magi Madoka Magica begins, Madoka Kaname doesn't actually have any noteworthy powers - she's just a regular girl. When offered the chance to get any wish granted in exchange for agreeing to slay witches as a magical girl, she hesitates until the series is nearly over. But after seeing her friends endure horrific pain as a result of their fight, she ends up making a wish that makes her more powerful than anyone in the series - and almost in the anime world.

Madoka wishes for godlike powers that let her rewrite the rules of the universe so that witches are destroyed before they're ever created. This eliminates the need for magical girls to destroy them, preventing their suffering.
