About This Tool

Nigeria is a former British colony, the legal system is deeply influenced by the British, the common law system, the judicial system strictly follows the “precedent” principle of case law, that is, the “prior judgment” of a higher court is the legal basis for trying a similar case. If there is no precedent for a similar case, the English case law or the case law of other countries in the Commonwealth can also be invoked, Nigerian customary law, which had existed long before British colonial rule, was still valid.

The sources of Nigerian law mainly include the constitution, Nigerian legislation, customary law, legislation in force in Britain before January 1, 1900, Islamic law and judicial precedent, etc. As a Nigerian jurist, one must be familiar with the legal systems of at least two countries and the above-mentioned knowledge of the code. The random tool generated a list of 23 prominent Nigerian jurists who have handled a number of disputes between the two countries.

Click the "Display All Items" button and you will get a list of Nigerian jurists.
