NCC) is the world’s largest universal body within the United States. NCC is a universal partnership of 38 Christian faith groups in the United States. Its membership includes mainline Protestant, Orthodox, African Americans, Evangelical and Historic Peace Churches. Together they make up more than 100,000 local churches and 40 million adherents. It began with the establishment of the Federal Church Council in 1908 and expanded by merging with several other ecumenical organizations, becoming the National Church Council in 1950.

At the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s (it is not clear from the literature how long this lasted), the National Council of Churches was part of the “foundation’s youth and Student Affairs”, which was funded by the pre-funded CIA to fight communism.
