  • Thor Holds Open The Iris On Nidavellir on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#1) Thor Holds Open The Iris On Nidavellir

    When: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

No one really knows how much strength it takes to hold open the iris of a dwarven forge built around the miniature star of Nidavellir - but the safe assumption is it’s a considerable amount. Thor takes on this risky task in the name of creating a Thanos-slaying apparatus, and he not only succeeds at holding the device open long enough, he does so while taking the full force of the star.

As the actual God of Thunder, a certain level of deistic accomplishments can be expected from Thor at any given time, but what he does on Nidavellir is the stuff of legends - and that’s saying a lot when we’re talking about a guy who is literally the stuff of legends.

  • Hulk Stops A Leviathan - And So Does Ant-Man on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#2) Hulk Stops A Leviathan - And So Does Ant-Man

    When: The Avengers (2012)

Bruce Banner telling Captain America he’s “always angry” and proceeding to stop the charge of a Chitauri Leviathan with a single punch still stands as one of the greatest moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also a rather physically impressive feat, with each Leviathan presumably weighing hundreds of tons, including a particular beast traveling at a high speed, which probably requires an awful lot of momentum to halt with a right cross.

If the Hulk is to be given accolades for stopping a Leviathan in its tracks, then Scott Lang definitely deserves a shout-out. In Giant-Man mode, he accomplishes the same feat in Avengers: Endgame - sending one of the living warships hurtling to the earth with a mean left hook.

  • Classic Loki Creates The False Asgard Illusion To Distract Alioth on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#3) Classic Loki Creates The False Asgard Illusion To Distract Alioth

    When: Loki (2021)

This isn't in the realm of physical strength, but the metaphysical art of illusion casting. The Loki MCU fans are familiar with could never pull off something as crazy as conjuring the entirety of Asgard. A couple of people, sure... but an entire realm? No way, Jose.

Classic Loki, played by the great Richard E. Grant, lived most of his life in isolation, working on his powers. And after he realizes in the fifth episode of Loki that a person can change their fate, Classic Loki decides to sacrifice himself by distracting Alioth so Sylvie and Tom Hiddleston's Loki can get past the gas-beast and take on whomever runs the TVA.

  • Hulk Holds The Entire Avengers HQ On His Back on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#4) Hulk Holds The Entire Avengers HQ On His Back

    When: Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The Hulk often sells himself as the “strongest one there is,” but his maximum strength isn’t put on full display until the events of Endgame. After past-Thanos targets the Avengers HQ, the entire multilevel building and its foundation collapse on top of several Avengers - but Professor Hulk manages to protect them by carrying the full load of the ruined facility on his back.

A good rule of thumb states the average three-level building weighs about 350 pounds per square foot - though one would have to assume the Avengers HQ weighs a little bit more than that. Even using that conservative estimate - and another conservative estimate of 20,000 square feet - the Hulk is holding at least 7,000,000 pounds on his back. He’s also doing so with one good arm after having his other one heavily impaired by the Infinity Stones.

  • Hulk Hip-Tosses The Fenris Wolf on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#5) Hulk Hip-Tosses The Fenris Wolf

    When: Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

When it comes to Asgardians, the physical scales of ordinary humans no longer apply. Thus, it’s impossible to know just how much the gigantic Fenris Wolf weighs, but it can be assumed to be at least a few hundred times as heavy as a regular wolf. One doesn’t need an exact number, however, to know hip-tossing the Fenris Wolf is an impressive feat of strength.

The Hulk effectively strikes the undead beast during their clash in and around the Bifrost. He yanks the Fenris Wolf by its tail, flips it over by its snout, and ultimately knocks it out with a blow to the jaw. As if that weren't incredible enough, a few minutes later, Hulk punches holes in the head of the towering Surtur, making him arguably as ruinous as Ragnarok itself.

  • Captain America Holds Back The Infinity Gauntlet on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#6) Captain America Holds Back The Infinity Gauntlet

    When: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Thanos - who beat the Hulk in a one-on-one clash without using a single Infinity Stone - is probably the strongest individual in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though Carol Danvers might beg to differ. He’s even more powerful when he’s wielding the Infinity Gauntlet, which is why he is able to mow through the Avengers upon arriving in Wakanda - though one individual holds him up a little longer than the rest.

Captain America’s feat of briefly holding Thanos back with his bare hands is the only act of defiance that draws any sort of emotion from the Mad Titan. Even Thanos looks impressed Steve Rogers is able to grapple with the Infinity Gauntlet - though that doesn’t stop him from decking Rogers with a hard right shortly thereafter.

  • Spider-Man Holds The Staten Island Ferry Together on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#7) Spider-Man Holds The Staten Island Ferry Together

    When: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

No matter what iteration of the franchise you're watching, you can always count on an impressive web-based feat of strength from Spider-Man. In his first Marvel Cinematic Universe solo adventure, Peter Parker tries to hold the two split halves of the Staten Island Ferry together before it keels - and he nearly succeeds.

Though Spidey needs a timely intervention from Iron Man to fully save the day, the fact he briefly holds the ferry together himself is beyond incredible. The newest edition of the Staten Island Ferry is said to weigh approximately 3,000 tons - which means Parker is pulling at least 1,500 tons with each arm. The total weight is presumably quite a bit more once all the passengers and their vehicles are factored in.

  • Captain America Stops His Best Friend From Helicoptering Away on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#8) Captain America Stops His Best Friend From Helicoptering Away

When: Captain America: Civil War (2016)

The moment in which Captain America grabs hold of an ascending helicopter to prevent his brainwashed best friend from escaping is truly memorable - and not just for its gratuitous display of Steve Rogers’s biceps. Holding down a moving helicopter is the sort of feat only a supersoldier could pull off, and the physics behind the act are seriously astonishing.

Men’s Health estimates just the weight of the helicopter itself - with a metallic-armed Winter Soldier on board - sits at around 3,000 pounds. Once one factors in the force of the rotors trying to lift off, we’re left with thousands of pounds of resistance on each of Cap’s biceps. Is there any truer testament to the power of friendship?

  • Thanos Tosses The Hulk on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

    (#9) Thanos Tosses The Hulk

    When: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

The Hulk always says he’s the “strongest one there is,” but that title changes hands when he comes face to face with the Mad Titan. In the opening scene of Infinity War, Thanos shocks the Avengers and audiences alike when he makes short work of the Incredible Hulk - even going so far as to lift the jade giant above his head and toss him to the ground.

The Hulk’s weight traditionally fluctuates, but it’s safe to say he weighs at least a ton at any given time - so just hefting him into the air is an impressive feat of strength for Thanos. The other things he does during the fight, however - including catching the Hulk’s punches and bending his arms back against him - are evocative of even greater strength and power.

  • The Hulkbuster Punches Out The Hulk on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#10) The Hulkbuster Punches Out The Hulk

When: Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

The Hulkbuster suit co-built by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner - and affectionately codenamed “Veronica” - is meant to be equal in strength to the Hulk it's intended to bust, but the lack of an upper limit on the jade giant’s power suggests this is an impossible task. Still, the Hulkbuster makes a pretty impressive attempt at it.

When the Hulkbuster and Hulk clash in South Africa, the armored Avenger is able to match the raging monster punch for punch. After the Hulk starts to calm down, Stark is able to use the armor to repeatedly knock the Hulk into unconsciousness - a victory that comes with a lot of asterisks, but is impressive nonetheless.

  • Spider-Man Catches A Jetway on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

    (#11) Spider-Man Catches A Jetway

When: Captain America: Civil War (2016)

When Captain America and Spider-Man first meet on opposite sides of a superheroic clash, Cap cleverly tests the young hero’s strength - and he likely finds it to be rather prodigious, indeed, because he then proceeds to drop a jetway on top of the wall-crawler.

There’s no way of knowing the exact weight of the aerobridge Spider-Man is holding up, but some Redditors estimate it at somewhere around 10 tons - which is pretty impressive for a teenager from Queens. This might look like an attempted slaying by Captain America, but it’s just him giving Spidey an opportunity to show off his radioactive muscles - and taking him out of the fight at the same time.

  • Captain Marvel Personally Stops Thanos From Snapping Again on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#12) Captain Marvel Personally Stops Thanos From Snapping Again

    When: Avengers: Endgame (2019)

In one of Infinity War’s most exciting scenes, several super-powered individuals try to stop Thanos from closing his fist while wearing the Infinity Gauntlet - but they fail. Even when Mantis renders the Mad Titan comatose, the assembled heroes are unable to pry the Gauntlet from his hand. Come Endgame, however, only one superhero is needed to prevent Thanos from snapping his fingers - Captain Marvel.

Carol Danvers is a late arrival to the final fight against Thanos, but she makes an immediate impact. With the chips down and Thanos once again in possession of the Infinity Stones, he attempts to snap and eradicate the entire universe - but Danvers flies in at the last minute to physically stop him from completing the action. Seconds later, she takes a headbutt from the Mad Titan without blinking - with this, she adds another item to her resume as the strongest hero in the MCU.

  • Black Panther Wrestles Down A Rhinoceros on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#13) Black Panther Wrestles Down A Rhinoceros

    When: Black Panther (2018)

One of the most traditional displays of strength in human history is that of wrestling - taking one’s opponent down and pinning them to prove one’s own superior power. The heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe grapple with each other quite frequently, and that obviously requires a lot of muscle - but only one MCU superhero can lay claim to having wrestled down a multi-ton beast without breaking a sweat.

The largest rhinoceroses weigh up to 5,000 pounds, but one has to assume the combative, armored rhinos in Wakanda weigh even more than that. Yet, T’Challa manages to grab one by the neck and take it to the ground with relative ease. This impressive strength is just one more reason why the Black Panther remains the rightful king of Wakanda.

  • Gamora Tows Drax By Hand Through A Space Crash on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#14) Gamora Tows Drax By Hand Through A Space Crash

When: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

Not all feats of strength are as obvious as lifting or punching something. When the Guardians of the Galaxy crash-land on the planet Berhert while Drax is still being towed behind their ship, it looks like game over for the Destroyer - until Gamora steps in to save the day with her prodigious strength.

Just as the winch towing Drax breaks free of the Milano, Gamora grabs hold of it, proceeding to dig her feet in and tow Drax by hand. Drax - who traditionally weighs upward of 1,000 pounds - careens around, hitting trees at ridiculous speeds, but Gamora still manages to keep hold of him long enough for everyone to survive the collision.

  • The Winter Soldier Throws Cap’s Shield Through A Van on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#15) The Winter Soldier Throws Cap’s Shield Through A Van

When: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Wired has done the math on Captain America’s shield, and the results are staggering. They estimate the shield weighs about 44 pounds and that Steve Rogers can hurl it at nearly 50 miles per hour. Those numbers might be impressive, but what Bucky Barnes can do with the item is downright frightening.

During their vicious conflict during The Winter Soldier, Rogers and Barnes trade blows with the shield - and, at one point, Barnes throws it so hard it slices through the side of a van. Considering that Captain America’s throws normally bounce off whatever they hit, one has to assume Barnes is throwing the shield significantly faster than 50 miles per hour - and that’s unbelievable for a 50-pound discus.

  • Namor Effortlessly Tosses A Helicopter on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#16) Namor Effortlessly Tosses A Helicopter

When: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

M'Baku estimates that Namor's strength might even rival the Hulk's, and that power isn't even on full display as he effortlessly tosses a helicopter in his first MCU scene. Even light helicopters weigh in at well over a ton, and Namor rotates and throws this particular military vehicle without coming close to visually overexerting himself. Not to mention, this particular chopper is booking it at full speed, so the amount of opposing force needed to lift this machine is even more impressive.

Steve Rogers gets a lot of credit for reeling in a chopping during takeoff in Captain America: Civil War, but that helicopter isn't anywhere near approaching full speed. Later in the film, Namor also throws a Dragon Flyer––a Wakandan aircraft––but seeing as these ships are made of vibranium, they are potentially much lighter than the aforementioned helicopter.

  • Drax Squishes Security Drones At The Kyln on Random Most Impressive Feats Of Strength In The MCU

(#17) Drax Squishes Security Drones At The Kyln

When: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

The Kyln is the most notorious prison in all the known universe - and it houses the biggest, baddest villains the Nova Corps have come into contact with. One has to assume their security features are as durable as they come - but Drax still makes short work of them.

When the newly formed Guardians of the Galaxy attempt to break out of the Kyln, Drax joins them in their efforts and starts going to town on the prison’s security drones. Despite the drones presumably being made out of the same nigh-indestructible metals seen elsewhere in the franchise, Drax smashes them together, crushes them into balls, and even rips one apart with his bare hands - earning his Destroyer moniker in convincing fashion.
