  • 1992 Dodge Viper on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#1) 1992 Dodge Viper

Hard as it might be to admit, the one car that truly stirred the souls of young gearheads in the '90s looks hopelessly dated today. The infection of aero styling and lack of character are so obvious now. And the wheels! The Earth will run out of "LOLs" before you're done with those.
  • 1995 Toyota Supra on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#2) 1995 Toyota Supra

It's a classic shape, and still looks kind of contemporary on that basis. And it might even sell today with the right body kit and headlights. Maybe. As it stands, however, the Mk IV Supra suffers from bubble-car overload of the '90s.
  • Nissan GT-R R34 on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#3) Nissan GT-R R34

I know, I know. But the greatest of all GT-Rs, that legend of Japanese performance, would never sell today. Primarily because of BMW. The GT-R's target was the BMW M3, and it's no coincidence that it looks a bit like one. But the GT-R has moved upmarket, and its target's styling has changed. While some of us would love to buy a brand new R34, there's no way it would compete in today's market.
  • 1997 Plymouth Prowler on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#4) 1997 Plymouth Prowler

In the Prowler's defense, it was sort of apredecessor to the hugely successful PT Cruiser. And it was a cool idea, especially given the public's response to the retro-styled Viper. It's hard to say what makes this car so awful. The pasitche design hurts, yes, but the Prowler's one unforgivable sin was performing like a Honda Civic despite looking like an old school hot rod.
  • Nissan 300ZX on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#5) Nissan 300ZX

Nissan's other supercar, the one we could buy Stateside, was a direct competitor to the Toyota Supra. It's was a fantastic car, but the 300ZX's flying wedge shape would be laughed back to the golden age of Baywatch if it debuted today.
  • 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#6) 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse

To be fair, the Eclipse that replaced this generation in 1994 is now beloved among import enthusiasts. It's one of those exceptions to the 1990s car rule. But the earlier model was about as blandly '90s as tuna sushi without the wasabi.
  • Ford Crown Victoria on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#7) Ford Crown Victoria

    • Ford
Google "Crown Victoria," and it's a guarantee that 90% of the results will be cop cars. These cars are still popular among a certain set, mostly because they're available for cheap from police auctions. Looks aside, this never-changing cop car would fail today mostly because of its antiquated chassis.
  • 1995 Toyota Camry on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#8) 1995 Toyota Camry

Never in the history of man has a car been so deliberately bland, so purposefully inoffensive, so soul-shatteringly boring as the 1990s Toyota Camry. Granted, the fact that it was about as offensive as elevator music was the secret of the Camry's success. But that doesn't excuse it for being elevator music.
  • 1999 Dodge Intrepid on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#9) 1999 Dodge Intrepid

When it was introduced, Dodge's Intrepid (sibling to the Chrysler 300M) was a really groundbreaking car. Based in large part on the Lamborghini Portofino concept, the Intrepid was a statement in cab-forward architecture and aero perfection. But both of those things died in 2000, and the Intrepid died with them.
  • 1995 Suzuki Sidekick on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#10) 1995 Suzuki Sidekick

The Japanese always have had a slightly different take on "sport utility" than Americans. Best thing about this Suzuki: It looked about as good rolled over on its roof as it did standing right side up.
  • Chevrolet Caprice on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#11) Chevrolet Caprice

    • General Motors, Chevrolet
Normally, giant wheels are a travesty visited on cars that don't deserve such disrespect. This rolling slug isn't one of them. In fact, the world would probably be a better place if wheels larger than 20 inches only fit '90s Caprices.
  • 1996 Ford Explorer on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#12) 1996 Ford Explorer

America's most popular SUV was a legend in its own time - a time in which blandness ruled automotive design. With updated mechanicals, stability control, some amenities, and different front fascia, the old Explorer would probably sell today. But as it stands, nobody would go out of their way to buy one.
  • 1996 Ford Taurus on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#13) 1996 Ford Taurus

Pictured here is the SHO model, a V-8 powered study in all that is wonderfully ridiculous. But not even SHO treatment could hide the organic "oval" theme of the base Taurus. To its credit, the Taurus did look a bit like a Mazda RX-7 from the rear, but that was the only view of the thing that wasn't completely humiliating.
  • 1995 Dodge Caravan on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#14) 1995 Dodge Caravan

Really, any minivan could be on this list, but Dodge makes the cut because "Caravan" is a portmanteau of "car and van." Plus it looks like the minivan version of Toyota Camry: so inoffensive it barely exists.
  • Geo Metro on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#15) Geo Metro

    • Geo, Chevrolet
In its own way, the Metro was a great little car. It still has a cult following today, especially among hypermilers who know how to squeeze 70-plus miles to the gallon out of it. But part of the Metro's success was its light weight, compact dimensions, good visibility, and impressive interior volume. None of those would happen today, and nobody would buy a car that looked like a Metro in any case.
  • Cadillac Catera on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#16) Cadillac Catera

    • General Motors, Opel
For those who don't know: "CTS" stands for "Catera Touring Sedan," the BMW-competing wannabe that Caddy introduced in the 1990s. While its follow-up was massively successful, the Catera badge could barely outrun the embarrassment of its cartoon ducky advertising campaign.
  • 1998 Chrysler 300M on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#17) 1998 Chrysler 300M

Here's one Fiat-Chrysler would really rather we leave in the past. But for the sake of posterity: Yes, this was the direct predecessor to the awesome 300C. Never forget, Chrysler. Never forget.
  • 1990 Infiniti M30 on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#18) 1990 Infiniti M30

This was the car that almost killed Infiniti. Slow, with awful suspension and a chassy as stiff as a bag of overcooked noodles, the M30's outdated styling is probably the least of its woes.
  • GM EV1 on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#19) GM EV1

A lot of conspiracy theories surround the GM EV1 electric car, and most of them are true. Even without corporate chicanery killing the EV1, it was still one of the ugliest things ever to come out of a wind tunnel.
  • The Yugo on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#20) The Yugo

You had to know this one was coming: the world's greatest one-word punchline. The Yugo hit U.S. roads in the mid-'80s, but was a common site in the decade that followed. Hail to the King, baby.
  • 1999 Toyota Echo on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#21) 1999 Toyota Echo

To be fair, Toyota's Echo probably would have done pretty well if it had come out when Ecco the Dolphin was a thing. Back then, it would at least have compared pretty well to the Geo Metro. But at the dawn of the 21st century, this particular Echo sank in silence.
  • Anything from Kia on Random Most '90s Cars

    (#22) Anything from Kia

Seriously...pick a Kia. Any Kia. These cars were so bad, so cheap, and so prone to just falling apart that they made Korean cars a joke in America. Kia's doing much better now, but even 15 years later, they haven't quite lived down the humiliation of the '90s.
