About This Tool

The so-called Midwest is not entirely clear. Generally speaking, anything east of what used to be known as the “West” is considered a Midwestern Sectional Figure Skating Championships. In 1789, the region was known as the Northwest Territory, and by 1898, the Midwest was officially in use. In the early 19th century, the West referred to the area west of the Mississippi River, so Americans called the land between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi the Midwest. During this time, some people began to informally incorporate parts of Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri, as well as North Dakota and Kansas, into the Midwest.

The U.S. Census Bureau defines an urbanized area of the United States as a continuous census block group with a population density of at least 1,000 people per square mile (about 400 people per square mile). Like Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul, St. Louis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, all mid-western cities. The random tool also generated 104 entries covering more midwestern city names and land areas.
