About This Tool

Muskegon is a city in western Michigan and a Lake Port. It is located at the mouth of the Muskegon River on the east coast of Lake Michigan. The name comes from the Indian word for “reed-covered estuary. ”. The city covers 46.93 square kilometers. Every summer, there’s the Muskegon cycling festival. Population 40,000(1980). 7,000 years ago, at the end of the Ice Age, it was a stronghold for the Indians as they chased the retreating glaciers. In the 18th century, French colonists began to operate here. 1810 was founded in 1869. In 1871, after the Chicago Fire, the city was rebuilt with wood from Muskegon. Industrial products are aircraft, automotive parts, and engines, petroleum machinery, steel, aluminum, and other metal products. Logging is rife.
