About This Tool

Mason County (Michigan) is a County in the western part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the west side of Lake Michigan. Area 3,216 KM2. According to the 2000 U.S. census, there were 28,274 people. County Ludington.
Founded by 1840 on April 1. County honors the first governor Stevens Mason.

1836 Charles Nobel recognized the need to choose a central location for a state capital when Michigan became a state, so he bought a forest, cleared 20 hectares, and established the Mason Center, soon after that, the center disappeared from the name. But 1847 chose Lansing, 19 kilometers away, as the state capital, and Nobel achieved his goal of making Mason the county capital.
