Manistee County is a county in western Michigan, USA, bordering Lake Michigan to the west. The area is 3,317 square kilometers. According to estimates from the 2000 U.S. Census, there are a total of 24,527 people. Established on April 1, 1840. The county name comes from the Manisti River (from the word ministigweyaa in Ojibiva, which means "there is an island at the mouth of the river").
