  • Arya Stark on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    (#1) Arya Stark

    • Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire

    "Stick 'Em With The Pointy End"    

    • Young Arya rejects the traditional feminine trappings of sewing and courtesy by engaging in swordplay and archery. She adopts a direwolf pup and names her Nymeria.
    • She accompanies her father to King’s Landing. Along the way, Sandor Clegane murders her friend Mycah.
    • Syrio Forel teachers her to fight and saves her life when the Kingsguard come to take her captive. She witnesses her father’s public execution.
    • Yoren, a recruiter for the Night’s Watch, sneaks her out of King's Landing and spirits her back to the North. Along the way, she befriends Gendry, Hot Pie, and Jaqen H’Ghar.
    • Yoren is killed, and the remaining recruits find themselves held captive by Tywin Lannister and Gregor Clegane at Harrenhal. The Lannister men remain ignorant of her identity.
    • Arya, Gendry, and Hot Pie escape Harrenhal thanks to Jaqen, who leaves Arya with a mysterious Braavosi coin and the words “Valar Morghulis.”
    • The gang are taken in by the Brotherhood Without Banners. The Hound kidnaps her.
    • Arya and the Hound arrive too late at the Red Wedding to save her mother and brother from being slaughtered, but manage to escape the chaos.

    "Valar Morghulis"

    • Clegane’s continued attempts to ransom Arya fail, but as they travel together, he teaches her how to kill.
    • Brienne of Tarth finds them and beats the Hound in a viscous duel. Arya leaves Clegane for dead and departs for Braavos.
    • Arya gets to the House of Black and White in Braavos. She reunites with Jaqen H’Ghar. He begins to tutor her in the face-swapping ways of the Faceless Men.
    • Following some sanctioned assassination missions, and an instance of outright vengeance against the man who killed Syrio Forel, Arya runs afoul of the Faceless Men and must kill her rival before returning to Westeros.

    "Valar Dohaeris"

    • In Westeros, Arya murders Walder Frey—the perpetrator of the Red Wedding—and all of his male heirs.
    • Arya reunites with her sister Sansa and brother Bran in Winterfell. She executes Petyr Baelish.
    • She reunites with Jon Snow and kills the Night King in the Battle of Winterfell.
    • She accompanies the Hound to King’s Landing where she plans to assassinate Cersei Lannister, only to be talked out of it at the last minute by Sandor. She flees Daenerys' destruction of the city with a new lease on life. 
    • After the destruction is over, Arya is skeptical of Dany, and tells Jon as much. After Jon kills Dany and is imprisoned, Arya attends the parley with Grey Worm. She helps the Starks negotiate Jon's release, then tells the family that she's going "west of Westeros." She sails away from King's Landing on a Stark-branded shift, seemingly destined for a life of exploration.

    (#2) Tyrion Lannister

    • Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire

    "All Dwarfs Are Bastards In Their Fathers' Eyes"

    • Tyrion travels with the royal party to Winterfell, but splits from them to visit The Wall and the Night’s Watch. Here he forms a friendship with Jon Snow.
    • On his way back to King’s Landing, Tyrion is wrongly arrested for Bran Stark's attempted assassination.
    • Taken to the Eyrie, Tyrion demands a trial-by-combat and is championed by Bronn, who wins his freedom and accompanies Tyrion back to King’s Landing. 

    The Hand Of The King

    • Tyrion fights in the war against the Starks alongside Bronn under the command of his father Tywin. He meets and falls in love with the sex worker Shae.
    • He becomes the Hand of the King to his nephew Joffrey Baratheon. He does his best to bring the young monarch into line.
    • Tyrion leads the defense of King’s Landing in the Battle of the Blackwater with a clever wildfire scheme, but is wounded in an attempted assassination during the fighting.
    • After clashing with his father over Shae, Tyrion is forcibly married to Sansa, though he refuses to consummate the marriage.
    • Tyrion is falsely accused of murdering Joffrey by his sister Cersei. After an explosive trial he demands a trial-by-combat.
    • Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne offers to be Tyrion’s champion, but Oberyn dies and Tyrion is sentenced to death.
    • His brother Jaime frees him from death row, and Varys spirits Tyrion out of the city, but not before a pit stop to murder the duplicitous Shae and his cruel father.
    • Varys sends Tyrion to Essos to join Daenerys Targaryen’s cause. Along the way, Jorah Mormont kidnaps him, and the two of them are in turn captured by slavers.

    The Hand Of The Queen

    • Tyrion and Jorah show up in Daenerys’ conquered city of Meereen. Tyrion is able to appeal to Dany enough to join her service.
    • Following a brief stint of ruling the city during her exodus, Tyrion helps Daenerys regain control of Meereen. He is named Hand of the Queen.
    • He accompanies Daenerys and her forces back to Westeros, drawing him into direct conflict with siblings Jaime and Cersei Lannister.
    • Tyrion brings Daenerys together with Jon Snow, which allows them to fall in love and form an alliance against the White Walkers.
    • He seemingly manages to forge a truce with Cersei after discovering her pregnancy, only to have her go back on her word immediately.
    • He survives the Battle of Winterfell alongside Sansa in the crypt, after which he accompanies Daenerys back to King’s Landing. 
    • He fails to negotiate peace between his sister and his queen and—following one last attempt to aid Jaime in finding a peaceful solution—Tyrion is forced to watch as Daenerys burns King’s Landing to the ground. 

    Epilogue: The Hand of the King, Part II

    • After the destruction of King's Landing, Tyrion discovers Jaime and Cersei's bodies. 
    • After Dany's victory speech, he disavows his title as Hand of the Queen, and is jailed for it.
    • In captivity, Tyrion convinces Jon to kill Dany.
    • After Jon kills Dany, Tyrion convinces the lords and ladies of the Six Kingdoms and the North to elect Bran the Broken as king.
    • Bran names Tyrion Hand.

    The Hound

    • Sandor accompanies the royal party to Winterfell, and on his way back to King’s Landing he kills Arya Stark’s friend under the orders of Cersei Lannister.
    • He battles his brother Gregor at a tourney and refuses subsequent offers of knighthood. He joins the Kingsguard when Joffrey Baratheon becomes King.
    • Sandor steps in several times to protect Sansa Stark from violence and cruelty. 

    "F**k The King"

    • He defects from the Lannisters during the Battle of the Blackwater. He tries to free Sansa from the Lannisters' cruelty.
    • He kidnaps Arya from the Brotherhood Without Borders and attempts to ransom her back to her family. In the process, he becomes a mentor of sorts for the young killer.
    • Sandor battles to the near-death with Brienne of Tarth for possession of Arya, only to have Arya leave him for dead.

    Sandor

    • He is found by a traveling septon and nursed back to health. He is quickly brought back to a life of violence when he newfound community is slaughtered.
    • Sandor joins the Brotherhood Without Banners and heads north to confront the coming threat of the White Walkers—a mission that leads him beyond The Wall to kidnap a wight.
    • He saves Arya’s life in the Battle of Winterfell, allowing her to kill the Night King and end the conflict.
    • He accompanies Arya to King’s Landing where he convinces her to abandon her mission of vengeance—before completing his own by killing his undead brother, dying in the process
       
  • Sansa Stark on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    (#4) Sansa Stark

    • Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire

    Little Bird

    • Sansa is offered in marriage to Joffery Baratheon, the heir to the Iron Throne, and accompanies her betrothed and her father to King’s Landing.
    • Life in the capital is not quite what Sansa expected. Her father is executed.
    • Remaining Joffrey's bride, Sansa becomes subject to his cruelty. The Hound occasionally protects her from harm.
    • Her engagement to Joffrey is put aside in lieu of Margaery Tyrell. Sansa becomes the subject of more cruelty. Petyr Baelish plots to free her from King’s Landing.
    • Sansa is wed to Tyrion Lannister. Tyrion opposes the cruel pairing and refuses to bed her, especially after her mother and brother are slaughtered at the Red Wedding.
    • Littlefinger frees her from King's Landing following Joffrey's assassination—a crime she is assumed to have played some role in.

    "Chaos Is A Ladder"

    • Littlefinger brings Sansa to the Eyrie, home of her aunt Lysa. Littlefinger murders her when she threatens Sansa.
    • Baelish begins to tutor Sansa in the game of thrones, but then decides to wed her to Ramsay Bolton, who is in control of Winterfell.
    • Ramsay is even crueler than Joffrey, raping Sansa on their wedding night and forcing Theon Greyjoy to watch.
    • Theon helps Sansa escape from Winterfell. They are rescued by Brienne of Tarth and Podrick Payne, who escort Sansa to Castle Black, where they meet Jon Snow.

    The Queen In The North

    • Sansa helps Jon unite the North against the Boltons, and ensures victory in the Battle of the Bastards by summoning Littlefinger and the army of the Vale.
    • Upon Jon’s declaration as King in the North and departure to woo Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa becomes the Lady of Winterfell. She reunites with siblings Arya and Bran and conspires with them to execute Littlefinger.
    • Sansa remains skeptical of Daenerys, but accepts her help in the Battle of Winterfell. Sansa spends the duration of the battle alongside Tyrion in the crypt.
    • After learning about Jon Snow’s true parentage, Sansa shares the secret with Tyrion.
    • At the summit of King's Landing, Sansa declares the North independent of the Seven Kingdoms, and is coronated the Queen in the North by the northmen.
       
  • Theon Greyjoy on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    Theon Greyjoy

    • Theon accompanies Robb Stark when he marches to war against the Lannisters. After reuniting with his birthfather Balon Greyjoy, he betrays his adoptive brother and family.
    • He leads the capture of Winterfell and pretends to murder Bran and Rickon Stark. Shortly thereafter, he loses possession of the castle to Ramsay Snow.

    Reek

    • Theon is tortured so horrifically by Ramsay that he takes on the persona of “Reek,” forgetting his own identity.
    • When he frees Sansa Stark from her captivity at Winterfell and her abusive marriage to Ramsay, the old Theon begins to emerge. He returns to his sister Yara’s side.
    • Theon attempts to help Yara win the Salt Throne, but they lose out to their mad uncle Euron. The siblings flee Essos in search of Daenerys Targaryen.
    • The Greyjoys join Daenerys’ growing army, but their fleet is ambushed by Euron and Yara is captured. The coward Reek takes over once more and Theon flees, leaving Yara with Euron.

    Theon Stark

    • After an encounter with Jon Snow reaffirms his Stark identity, Theon mounts a mission to save his sister.
    • After saving Yara, he returns to the service of Daenerys in time for the Battle of Winterfell.
    • Returning to Winterfell, Theon is warmly welcomed by Sansa, and given the opportunity to directly defend Bran Stark from the coming of the Night King.
    • Theon gives his life to save Bran from the Night King and dies a Stark. In so doing, Theon buys Arya Stark enough time to slay the Night King. 
  • Brienne of Tarth on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    (#6) Brienne of Tarth

    • Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire

    The Bear And The Maiden Fair

    • Brienne joins Renly Baratheon’s Kingsguard, only to watch him be assassinated by a living shadow shortly thereafter.
    • She swears her sword to Catelyn Stark and convinces her new lady to free Jaime Lannister from captivity in exchange for her daughters’ safety, offering to escort Jaime to King’s Landing.
    • Brienne and Jaime are captured by Bolton forces and bond while in captivity. Jaime risks his life to free her and the two make their way to the capital.
    • After Catelyn is murdered, Jaime gives Brienne a Valyrian steel sword and a new squire in Podrick Payne, and empowers her to find Sansa and Arya Stark and spirit them to safety.

    "All My Life Men Like You Have Sneered At Me, And All My Life I've Been Knocking Men Like You Into The Dust"

    • Brienne finds Arya in the company of Sandor Clegane, and she beats him nearly to death, but is unable to convince Arya to travel with her.
    • She finds Sansa with Petyr Baelish but is unable to convince Sansa of her legitimacy, only to later rescue Sansa from her marriage to Ramsay Bolton.
    • Before rescuing Sansa, Brienne makes a pitstop at Winterfell to slay Stannis Baratheon in an act of vengeance for his supernatural assassination of Renly.
    • Brienne brings Sansa to Castle Black and then Winterfell, staying by her side throughout the Battle of the Bastards and the return of the Stark siblings.

    The Knight Of The Six Kingdoms

    • Brienne reunites with Jaime at the Dragonpit parley—and then again at the Battle of Winterfell where he knights her and serves under her command.
    • After victory against the White Walkers, Brienne and Jaime hook up—only for Jaime to suddenly decide to return to Cersei in King’s Landing, leaving Brienne crying in the snow.
    • After King's Landing's destruction, she helps choose Bran the Broken as the ruler of the Six Kingdoms. 
    • She's named Lord Commander of the King's Guard, and writes Jaime's final chapter in the King's Guard White Book. 
       
  • Jon Snow on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    (#7) Jon Snow

    • Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire

    "You know nothing, Jon Snow"

    • With limited opportunities as the supposed bastard child of Ned Stark, Jon joins the Night’s Watch.
    • Jon meets Samwell Tarly, is named the Lord Commander's steward, saves his life from a wight attack, and is rewarded with the gift of Mormont’s Valyrian steel sword.
    • After hearing of his father’s execution, Jon considers deserting the Night’s Watch, but is ultimately convinced of the importance of facing the impending threat from beyond The Wall.
    • Jon joins a raiding party beyond The Wall and is captured by the Wildlings. He meets Ygritte, with whom he falls in love. He also meets Tormund Giantsbane.
    • He accompanies the Wildlings as they cross The Wall, but betrays them to return to Castle Black and warn of the coming attack.

    The Lord Commander

    • Jon rejoins the Night’s Watch and helps them train against the impending invasion of Mance Rayder and his Wildling forces.
    • The ensuing battle forces Jon into a leadership role, but it also takes the life of Ygritte, who dies in his arms.
    • The Night’s Watch is saved by the arrival of Stannis Baratheon and his army. Jon agrees to help Stannis regain the North from the Boltons.
    • Jon experiences his first direct encounter with the White Walkers—and the Night King—at Hardhome. 
    • Angered at his apparent betrayal of his oaths, several members of the Night’s Watch conspire to murder Jon, stabbing him repeatedly to death.

    The King in the North

    • Jon is resurrected by Melisandre, but chooses to depart the Night’s Watch. He reunites with sister Sansa to rally the North against the Bolton occupation of Winterfell.
    • Jon defeats Ramsay in the Battle of the Bastards and retakes Winterfell, where he's declared the King in the North.
    • Invited to Dragonstone by Tyrion Lannister, Jon meets Daenerys Targaryen and the two fall in love. 
    • Jon bends the knee and allies himself with Dany in exchange for her help in the conflict against the White Walkers.
    • Jon reunites with his remaining siblings, Arya and Bran, at Winterfell. They begin preparations for the Battle of the Dawn. Jon finds out that he can ride a dragon.
    • Sam and Bran explain to him his true parentage: he is the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, and thus a better claimant to the Iron Throne than Daenerys.
    • Jon’s forces are successful in the battle thanks to the timely intervention of Arya, but there’s little time for celebration as they must immediately march south to confront Cersei Lannister.
    • He leads the attack on King’s Landing, but can only stare in horror as Daenerys snaps and burns the city to the ground in the wake of their victory. 
    • After Tyrion disavows Dany and is jailed, he essentially convinces Jon to betray Dany. Torn but determined, Jon kills Dany in the throne room, and is banished to the Wall.
    • Jon's last scene has him ranging north of the Wall with Tormund and a pack of wildlings just after a much appreciated reunion with his direwolf Ghost.
  • Tormund Giantsbane on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    The Wildling

    • Tormund is with Mance Rayder, the King-Beyond-The-Wall, when the wildlings capture Jon Snow and enlist him in their campaign against the Night’s Watch.
    • He, Jon, and a team of wildlings are sent to scale The Wall and attack Castle Black from the south, but the plan fails when Jon betrays them.
    • Tormund participates in the full-scale assault on Castle Black, but is forced to surrender and watch as Mance is executed.

    "We're All Going To Die, But At Least We Die Together"

    • He forges an alliance with Jon against the White Walkers and agrees to join Jon on a rescue mission to Hardhome. Both of them barely survive.
    • Tormund becomes the de facto leader of the thousands of wildlings that Jon allows to come south of The Wall—an act that leads to Jon’s assassination by members of the Night’s Watch.
    • After Melisandre resurrects, Tormund accompanies him to the Battle of the Bastards, where they again escape death. They take back Winterfell.
    • Tormund fails to win the heart of Brienne of Tarth, but he does win a spot on Jon’s mission beyond The Wall, where Tormund nearly dies but is saved by Sandor Clegane.
    • He’s present at The Wall when the Night King uses an undead dragon to bring it down, but he survives and returns to Winterfell for the Battle for the Dawn.
    • After surviving yet another battle, Tormund boisterously toasts the greatness of Jon Snow, and unwittingly feeds the paranoia of Daenerys Targaryen as he does so.
    • As Jon Snow leaves Winterfell for King's Landing, Tormund returns to the north with Ghost.
    • He's waiting at the Wall with Ghost when Jon Snow arrives. Tormund accompanies Jon north of the wall with a pack of wildlings.
  • Samwell Tarly on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    (#9) Samwell Tarly

    • Game of Thrones

    The Coward

    • Samwell is forced to join the Night’s Watch by his domineering father. There he meets Jon Snow, his eventual best friend.
    • He accompanies the Night’s Watch on a mission north of The Wall, where he meets Gilly, a pregnant daughter of the cruel and incestuous Craster. He frees her from her plight.
    • Sam and the Night’s Watch venture further north, until they’re attacked by White Walkers at the Fist of the First Men. Here he discovers a cache of dragonglass.

    Sam The Slayer

    • After a mutiny at Craster’s Keep that takes the lives of both Craster and Jeor Mormont, Sam takes Gilly and her son to safety. He slays a White Walker with a dragonglass dagger protecting them.
    • Sam and Gilly cross The Wall, where they encounter Bran Stark and his party on their way north. They return to Castle Black.
    • He participates in the battle against the wildlings at Castle Black, where he slays a Thenn and professes his love for Gilly.
    • After helping Jon become Lord Commander, Sam is sent to Oldtown alongside Aemon Targaryen to become a maester. Aemon dies on the journey.
    • Sam studies at the Citadel, where he learns many important lessons including the cure for Greyscale and the news of a secret marriage between Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.

    The Grand Maester

    • Sam cures Jorah Mormont of his Greyscale.
    • Sam returns to his family home, steals their Valyrian sword, and takes Gilly and baby Sam back to the North. He conspires with Bran Stark to reveal Jon’s true parentage.
    • Sam fights in the Battle of Winterfell against the White Walkers and survives. This is good news, given that he’s recently got Gilly pregnant.
    • Bran the Broken installs him as Grand Maester of King's Landing after Sam reveals that he's helped author a recent history called A Song Of Ice And Fire.
       
  • Davos Seaworth on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    (#10) Davos Seaworth

    • A Song of Ice and Fire

    The Onion Knight

    • Davos is a trusted advisor of Stannis Baratheon when he declares himself king. He converts to the worship of the Lord of Light under pressure from Melisandre.
    • He covertly ferries Melisandre into Renly Baratheon’s camp, where she gives birth to a shadow that assassinates Renly. Shortly thereafter, Davos is named Stannis’ Hand of the King.
    • Davos loses his son in the Battle of the Blackwater, but narrowly escapes death when he’s rescued by Salladhor Saan.
    • He defies Stannis on multiple occasions by trying to kill Melisandre and freeing Gendry from captivity. He ultimately wins his liege over by convincing him to travel north to save the Night’s Watch.
    • Davos accompanies Stannis to The Wall, where he helps him defeat Mance Rayder and forge an alliance with Jon Snow.
    • When Stannis’ attack on Ramsay Bolton and Winterfell does not go well, he sends Davos back to seek help from the Night’s Watch, which means Davos is absent when Stannis sacrifices his daughter Shireen and is subsequently slain by Brienne of Tarth.

    The Hand Of The King

    • Davos is at Castle Black when Jon Snow is assassinated, and he’s also there when Jon is brought back to life by Melisandre.
    • He accompanies Jon on his tour of the North and to the Battle of the Bastards—where he discovers the truth of Shireen’s demise—and becomes Jon’s unofficial Hand when Jon is named King in the North.
    • Davos follows Jon pretty much everywhere: to his meeting with Daenerys Targaryen, to the parley at King’s Landing, and to the Battle of Winterfell.
    • Davos is present when Daenerys loses control and burns King’s Landing—once again, standing at Jon’s side.

    Epilogue: The Master Of Ships

    • After the alliance of the Six Kingdoms and the North takes effect, Davos sits on the high council as Master of Ships. He gets to work; the show ends.
  • Jorah Mormont on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    (#11) Jorah Mormont

    • Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire

    "There Is No Word For 'Thank You' in Dothraki"

    • Jorah meets Daenerys Targaryen at her wedding to Khal Drogo and joins their khalasar, though he’s secretly on a mission to spy on Dany for Robert Baratheon.
    • He has second thoughts and prevents an assassination attempt on Daenerys. Later he watches as she walks into Drogo’s funeral pyre and emerges with three dragons.
    • Jorah accompanies Daenerys as she journeys to Qarth, Astapor, Yunkai, and Meeree—protecting and pining for her all along the way.
    • Barristan Selmy discovers Jorah’s secret. Daenerys exhiles him.

    "All I Ever Wanted Was To Serve You"

    • Jorah spends a while boozing around Volantis, then has a chance encounter with Tyrion Lannister, who he kidnaps in hopes of presenting him to Daenerys as a gift.
    • He and Tyrion are captured by slavers and taken to Meereen. Jorah contracts the supposedly fatal Greyscale.
    • Upon making it back to Daenerys, Jorah is rejected once more, but then stops an assassination attempt on Dany from within the fighting pits.
    • Jorah and Daario team up to rescue Daenerys after she flees atop Drogon, but she saves herself and unites all the khalasars while she’s at it.

    "I Vow To Serve You, To Obey You, To Die For You If Need Be"

    • Back in the service of his Khaleesi, Jorah helps Daenerys retake Meereen—and is then sent on a mission to find a cure for his Greyscale.
    • He ends up at the Citadel in Oldtown, where Samwell Tarly cures his Greyscale.
    • Jorah rejoins Daenerys at Dragonstone, but it isn’t long before he’s pressed into joining Jon Snow’s impromptu mission beyond The Wall.
    • After surviving his northern adventure, Jorah dies at the Battle of Winterfell, defending his Khaleesi to his final breath. 
  • Jaime Lannister on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    (#12) Jaime Lannister

    • Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire

    The Kingslayer

    • Jamie pushes Bran Stark out of a window after Bran discovers his affair with his twin sister Cersei.    
    • After Catelyn Stark blames his brother Tyrion for her son's fall, Jaime retaliates by attacking and arresting Ned Stark in the streets of King’s Landing. Because Ned knows the truth of Jaime's relationship to Cersei Baratheon's children, this leads to his eventual execution.
    • Jaime goes to war against Ned’s son, Robb, but is captured in battle and held hostage.
    • Brienne of Tarth convinces Catelyn to release Jaime in exchange for the safe return of her daughters, and Brienne and Jaime set off on a journey to King’s Landing.

    The Children

    • Jaime and Brienne are captured by bandits, who cut off his sword hand. Jaime gains respect for Brienne and steps in to save her life.
    • He comes into conflict with his father Tywin over his continued service on the Kingsguard and his continuing affair with his sister.
    • He watches as his son Joffrey dies painfully from poisoning at his own wedding.
    • He saves Tyrion from execution, only to have Tyrion murder their father in retaliation for sentencing him to death for poisoning Joffrey (and tainting Shae).
    • Looking for redemption, Jaime trains in left-handed fighting with Bronn of the Blackwater and convinces Bronn to accompany him on a trip to Dorne to rescue his daughter Myrcella from the Martells.
    • Jaime succeeds in retrieving Myrcella, but not before she is fatally poisoned by Ellaria Sand, forcing Jaime to watch another of his children die before his eyes.
    • Cersei sends Jaime to end the siege at Riverrun, which means he's not in King's Landing when Cersei blows up the Sept of Baelor and compels their last remaining child, Tommen, to commit suicide.
    • He returns to King’s Landing before being dispatched again to take Highgarden and kill Olenna Tyrell. His army is obliterated by the newly-arrived Daenerys Targaryen.

    "A Lannister Always Pays His Debts"

    • Jaime encourages Cersei to agree to a truce with Daenerys to fight against the White Walkers, but she goes back on her word.
    • He travels to the North alone to uphold his promise.
    • Jaime reunites with and knights Ser Brienne of Tarth, fighting under her command in the Battle of Winterfell before sharing a passionate weekend with her.
    • Learning of Cersei's impending danger, Jaime shuns Brienne and chooses to return to King’s Landing so he can be by his sister's side, and manages to reach her thanks to Tyrion.
    • Jaime reaches Cersei just as Daenerys and Drogon are destroying the Red Keep, and the couple share one last embrace as the roof collapses, killing them both

    • When Tyrion is accused of assassinating Joffrey Baratheon, Podrick refuses to testify against him, proving his loyalty.
    • Jaime Lannister arranges for Podrick to accompany Brienne of Tarth on her quest to rescue the Stark sister, and he begins to train in the art of swordplay as they travel.
    • Pod and Brienne fail to get their hands on Arya Stark, but they do rescue Sansa Stark from the Boltons and bring her to Castle Black. 
    • He continues to accompany Brienne as she serves the Starks in the North, eventually reuniting with both Tyrion and his old pal Bronn in King’s Landing.
    • Podrick fights alongside Brienne and Jaime in the Battle of Winterfell and manages to survive, ultimately celebrating victory with another night of vigorous lovemaking with multiple women.

    • Viserys is abusive. Drogo kills him, but then also dies shortly thereafter. Dany walks into his funeral pyre with her dragon eggs and walks out with three baby dragons.

    "Dracarys!"

    • Daenerys leads her khalasar to Qarth, where warlocks and nobles try to steal her dragons. She has a cryptic vision in the House of the Undying. The warlocks and nobles find themselves on the wrong end of her first ever “Dracarys” moment.
    • She leads her khalasar and dragons to Astapor, where she meets Missandei and Barristan Selmy. Here she acquires an Unsullied army by again using "Dracarys."
    • She frees the slaves of Yunkai, where she's hailed as "Mhysa." She conquers Meereen before ordering the crucifixion of its many “Great Masters.”
    • Daenerys begins to experience the downsides of leadership, including complications that lead to her imprison Rhaegal and Viserion after Drogon roasts a child.
    • She meets Tyrion Lannister and names him Hand. She flees Meereen on the back of Drogon amid a rebellious uprising. 
    • She heads back to the Dothraki sea. She uses her mastery of flame to unite the khalasars and form a massive army, which she uses to retake Meereen and end the slave trade in Essos.
    • She takes her army, allies, and dragons across the narrow sea to begin her conquest of the Seven Kingdoms.

    "Every Time A Targaryen Is Born, The Gods Flip A Coin"

    • In Dragonstone, Dany intends to start conquering, but her life is turned upside down when she meets, falls in love with, and is convinced to join the Battle for the Dawn by Jon Snow.
    • She makes an emergency trip beyond The Wall to rescue Jon, but one of her dragons is killed by the Night King and resurrected as an ice dragon.
    • She tries to forge a truce with Cersei Lannister, then heads North where she aids Jon and his allies in the defeat of the Night King and the White Walkers. Jorah Mormont gives his life to save hers.
    • She learns that Jon is her nephew, thus a better claimant to the Iron Throne.
    • She returns south to besiege King’s Landing, but another of her dragons is killed along the way. Missandei is executed before her very eyes. After the Lannister army surrenders at King's Landing, Daenerys uses Drogon to burn the city to the ground
    • After declaring victory and telling her army that their war is far from over, Dany is killed by Jon Snow, who stabs her in the heart. Drogon, who shows up after the murder, is dismayed and destroys the Iron Throne. He then flies away with Dany's body.

    • Gendry and Arya fall in with the Brotherhood Without Banners until they decide to sell Gendry to Melisandre, who intends to kill him in a blood sacrifice.
    • He’s saved by Davos Seaworth and disappears into the sea, presumably rowing for several seasons. 
    • Davos rediscovers Gendry in King’s Landing and enlists him to join Jon Snow’s northerly cause, which Gendry eagerly agrees to.

    The Lord Of Storm's End

    • Gendry travels to the North and beyond The Wall with Jon before returning to Winterfell for the Battle for the Dawn. He hooks up with Arya.
    • In the wake of the battle, Gendry is legitimized as Gendry Baratheon by Daenerys Targaryen and made lord of Storm's End, after which he proposes to Arya, but is firmly rejected. 
    • He attends the summit at King's Landing as the Lord of Storm's end, voting "Yes" for Bran the Broken.

    • As the two wage a lowkey war of intrigue, Varys and Tyrion Lannister develop a begrudging respect for one another, and a genuine friendship emerges.

    • He helps arrange the parley between Daenerys and Cersei Lannister, then accompanies Dany to the Battle of Winterfell. He waits the battle out in the crypts with Tyrion.
    • After learning of Jon Snow’s true lineage as the heir to the Iron Throne, Varys changes his allegiances, but is sentenced to death by Daenerys for it.

    • She returns to King’s Landing accompanied by Sansa and the other Starks following Robert’s offer of marriage between Sansa and Joffrey—who is secretly the bastard son of Cersei and Jaime.
    • Ned Stark discovers her secret. Cersei successfully conspires to kill her husband, which tips the balance of power in her favor.
    • Jaime imprisons Ned and arrangements are made for his exile to The Wall, but Cersei must watch in horror as her son—the new King—executes Ned publicly. 

    The Queen Regent

    • Cersei clashes with her brother Tyrion and father Tywin as they each try to exert control over Joffrey. This conflict only intensifies when Jaime is taken captive by the Starks.
    • Cersei drinks and keeps close tabs on Sansa as the War of the Five Kings rolls on, though she experiences a loss when Tyrion marries off her daughter Myrcella to the Dornish.
    • Following the Battle of the Blackwater, Cersei arranges a marriage between Margaery Tyrell and Joffrey, shunting Sansa to the side.

    • Cersei blows up the Sept of Baelor with most of the Tyrells and the High Septon inside using wildfire, a cruel act of terror that influences Tommen to commit suicide. Cersei to crown herself Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
    • She enlists Euron Greyjoy to gain revenge against the Dornish, and she becomes pregnant with her and Jaime’s fourth child, only to find herself threatened by the arrival of Daenerys Targaryen. 
    • Cersei feints an alliance with Daenerys against the White Walkers, but instead goes back on her word, causing Jaime to leave her and head North.
    • Upon Daenerys’ return from the North, Cersei ambushes her and kills her best friend, prompting Daenerys to lose control and destroy King’s Landing.
    • Cersei reunites with Jaime as the Red Keep collapses under dragonfire, embracing one last time as the roof collapses on their heads.

    • Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire

    The Red Woman

    • Melisandre comes to Stannis Baratheon and tells him that he is a King of destiny. She convinces him by assassinating his brother with a living shadow.
    • She fails to win Stannis the Battle of the Blackwater, but she manages to convince him of a scheme to sacrifice his nephew Gendry, only to have the plot foiled by Davos Seaworth.
    • Melisandre accompanies Stannis and Davos to The Wall where they ally themselves with Jon Snow, who also appears as a man of destiny to Melisandre.
    • She reveals herself to be several hundred years old, and also her plans to sacrifice Stannis’ daughter Shireen to the Lord of Light—a plot that eventually comes to fruition when Stannis marches on Winterfell.

    "Death By Fire Is The Purest Death"

    • Following Stannis’ death, Melisandre returns to Castle Black.
    • She resurrects the recently assassinated Jon Snow.
    • When Davos and Jon discover Melisandre’s sacrifice of Shireen, they banish her from Winterfell under threat of execution.

    "For The Night Is Dark And Full Of Terrors"

    • She travels to Dragonstone where she meets with Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister. She convinces them to reach out to Jon before leaving for Essos.
    • Melisandre returns just before the Battle of Winterfell, where she uses her fiery abilities to great effect. She reminds Arya Stark of an important prophecy.
    • After the battle is over, her work is done, and by taking her red jewelry off, she submits to death. 
  • Petyr Baelish on Random Main GoT Character Arcs

    "That's What I Know, That's What I Am, And Only By Admitting What We Are Can We Get What We Want"

    • In King’s Landing, Petyr feigns serving the Starks—helping Catelyn find Bran’s attempted assassin and Ned investigate Jon Arryn’s death—but in reality, he’s really spinning a web of chaotic lies.
    • When Ned attempts to arrest Joffrey Baratheon and Cersei Lannister, Littlefinger betrays him and holds the same Valyrian steel dagger used in Bran’s near-assassination to Ned’s throat.
    • Following Robert Baratheon’s death, Petyr serves Cersei more directly—all the while working on his own schemes—and manages to win the Lannisters an alliance with the Tyrells in time for the Battle of the Blackwater.

    "I Did Warn You Not To Trust Me"

    • He is named the Lord of Harrenhal and gives up his role as the Master of Coin in King’s Landing, but not before engaging in a war of intrigue against Varys over the fate of Sansa Stark.
    • Littlefinger conspires with the Tyrells to murder Joffrey at his own wedding, and in the chaos surrounding the assassination, spirits Sansa away to the Eyrie.
    • While at the Eyrie, Petyr begins to put the moves on Sansa. When her aunt Lysa Arryn discovers Petyr's advances, he murders her by throwing Lysa out the Moon Door.
    • He continues to tutor Sansa in the game of thrones, but then makes the unexpected move of marrying her off to Ramsay Bolton, the cruel son of the man who murdered her brother.
    • Upon returning to King’s Landing, Littlefinger initially aids but then flips on Cersei by informing the Tyrells—and thus the High Sparrow—of Cersei’s adulterous affair with Lancel Lannister. 

    "Chaos Is A Ladder"

    • Petyr meets up with and apologizes to Sansa, feigning ignorance of Ramsay’s true nature, which leads to her summoning him and his Vale army to save the day in the Battle of the Bastards. 
    • Back at Winterfell, Littlefinger does his best to manipulate Sansa into plotting against her brother Jon Snow and then her sister Arya, and is initially successful.
    • Following the arrival of the all-seeing Bran Stark, the tables are turned as the Stark siblings team up against Petyr Baelish and have him summarily executed with the same dagger he once held to their father’s neck.

    "I Know A Story About A Boy Who Hated Stories"

    • Bran accidentally catches twins Jaime and Cersei Lannister in the midst of an affair, prompting Jaime to hurl Bran from a high window. Bran is paralyzed.
    • He spends time in a coma. His direwolf Summer saves him from an assassination attempt. Bran wakes after receiving a prophetic vision from the Three-Eyed Raven.
    • When his brother Robb marches to war following the execution of their father Ned, Bran sits as the Lord of Winterfell, and slowly begins to realize the extent of his warging abilities.
    • Theon Greyjoy takes Winterfell. Bran escapes with Hodor thanks to Osha the wildling.

    The Children of the Forest

    • Bran meets Jojen and Meera Reed, two youths sworn to Winterfell who profess knowledge of Bran’s mysterious new abilities.
    • Bran splits from Rickon and Osha when he insists on traveling beyond The Wall—a journey he undertakes accompanied by Jojen, Meera, Hodor, and Summer.
    • Along the way to meet the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran’s group encounter several threats, but are saved by Bran’s growing warg abilities—which even allow him to take over Hodor’s body.
    • They reach the Three-Eyed Raven, but are attacked by wights as they arrive. Jojen dies.
    • The Three-Eyed Raven trains Bran. His powers become strong enough to gaze into Westerosi history. 

    Bran the Broken    

    • The Three-Eyed Raven is killed when White Walkers break into the cave. Bran and Meera escape after Bran forces Hodor to “hold the door” in a time-bending fashion.
    • Meera drags Bran back to Winterfell while he continues to search the past for secrets, including the true parentage of Jon Snow, the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne.
    • Despite reuniting with his family, Bran remains distant, claiming that he’s no longer Bran Stark, but instead the Three-Eyed Raven.
    • Bran reveals both Jon Snow’s parentage and the fact that the Night King is coming to kill Bran specifically, which leads to the much-maligned plan for the Battle of Winterfell.
    • Theon Greyjoy defends Bran in in the godswood during the battle. Arya saves Bran when she slays the Night King and all of his followers with the same dagger that was once used in Bran’s attempted assassination
    • After Dany is killed, Tyrion nominates Bran to be king of the Seven Kingdoms at the summit of the nobles. Bran accepts, and names Tyrion Hand, Brienne Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Davos Master of Ships, Bronn Master of Coin, and Sam Grand Maester.
    • In his last scene, he is concerned with Drogon's whereabouts, and when no one can tell him where the dragon is, he says "Perhaps I can find him."

    • Along with Jorah Mormont and Daario Naharis, Grey Worm covertly takes the city of Yunkai for Daenerys.
    • Grey Worm learns the common tongue from Missandei and falls in love with her.
    • In Meereen, Grey Worm and his Unsullied are ambushed by the Sons of the Harpy and he is nearly killed, only to be saved by the brave sacrifice of Barristan Selmy.

     

    "I Fear I Never Again See Missandei From The Island Of Naath"

    • He helps Tyrion Lannister rule Meereen in Daenerys’ brief absence, and then helps her defeat the besieging slave masters before accompanying her to Westeros.
    • Grey Worm hooks up with Missandei, but then is sent to take Casterly Rock—a goal he accomplishes, but at the cost of Daenerys’ fleet.
    • He rejoins Daenerys and accompanies her first to the parley at the Dragonpit and then to the Battle of Winterfell—an event he improbably survives.

     

    "I Don't Make Peace With The Queen's Enemies, I Kill The Queen's Enemies"

    • During their return to King’s Landing, Daenerys and her allies are ambushed and Missandei is kidnapped, forcing Daenerys and Grey Worm to watch when she’s publicly executed.
    • Enraged, Grey Worm leads Daenerys’ forces as they take King’s Landing, and he’s all too happy to indiscriminately kill surrendering Lannister soldiers. 
    • After the destruction is over and Jon kills Dany, Grey Worm imprisons Jon. He negotiates a transfer of power with the lords and ladies of the Six Kingdoms and The North, then seems to exhile himself to Naarth in honor of Missandei.
