  • Rivendell on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#1) Rivendell

A hidden valley deep in the foothills of the Misty Mountains, Rivendell is home to the Elves of Middle Earth. Historically, they are not the most welcoming to outsiders, but for the right people, they'll open up the gates.

What to see: The Last Homely, countless waterfalls, The Hall of Fire.

What to do: Rivendell is a city of peace. Conflict, if it ever occurs, happens elsewhere. As such, the majority of its activities are geared toward leisure, observation, and creation. If you're looking for a quiet retreat to work on your novel, this is the place to do it.

What to look out for: Wizards and Hobbits bringing trouble and magic rings; the end of an Age.

  • The Shire on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#2) The Shire

If disconnecting from the greater part of the world is what you're looking for, then look no further. The Shire offers visitors the chance to eat, drink, eat again, be merry, eat a third time, and finally pass out in a state of gluttonous bliss.

What to see: Bag End, home to the Bagginses; fields upon fields of grass and grain; the clearest night sky you've ever seen.

What to do: Start your morning off with several breakfasts, then take a stroll through Hobbiton to enjoy some people-watching. Take part in some of the finer Hobbit traditions, like consuming copious amounts of wine and lunch. And teatime. And supper. And dinner. And pudding. And second pudding. And third pudding...

What to look out for: Keep an eye out for any pesky wizards. Trouble always seems to follow them, and Hobbits follow them in turn.

  • Hogsmeade on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#3) Hogsmeade

High up in what many assume to be the Scottish Highlands, Hogsmeade is the perfect weekend getaway for people of a magical persuasion. The only reason to leave the idyllic village is so you can experience its warm hospitality all over again.

What to see: Dervish and Bangs, Gladrags Wizardwear, Honeydukes, Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop, The Hog's Head Inn, The Three Broomsticks, Zonko's Joke Shop, and The Shrieking Shack.

What to do: What isn't there to do in Hogsmeade? Every corner of this snowy village hosts sights, sounds, and smells that will enrapture you whether it's your first time visiting or your 50th. Butterbeer from either The Three Broomsticks or The Hog's Head will warm you up on a snowy afternoon, and Ice Mice from Honeydukes can make those British summers bearable - so stock up while you can!

What to look out for: Keep clear of the Shrieking Shack. It earned that name for a reason!

  • Themyscira on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#4) Themyscira

Home to the Amazons, Themyscira (AKA, Paradise Island) features countless sites that have been shaped by the Greek pantheon.

What to see: Temples honoring various gods, including Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis, Demeter, and Hera; spectacular yonic architecture that incorporate curves, domes, and other features distinguished by the lack of male presence for thousands of years; pristine beaches; kangaroo rides; and, rumor has it, a fountain of youth.

What to do: After waking up to perfect weather, take a walk down to the marketplace or any one of the stunning beaches and let the gods guide you where they will. Take in a show at one of the public forums or amphitheaters. If you're in the mood for something a little more exciting, you may come across one of the many tournaments or feats of strength this tribe of wonder women host frequently.

What to look out for: Be mindful that stepping foot on the island is forbidden to any male - and the punishment is severe. Additionally, there are whispers that the Gates of Tartarus are locked away beneath the island...

  • Naboo's Lake Country on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#5) Naboo's Lake Country

Arguably the prettiest location on the prettiest planet in a galaxy far, far away, Naboo's Lake Country is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway.

What to see: No one. The region is incredibly isolated, so apart from any staff that may accompany your traveling companions, you'll be left to your own devices as you explore gardens, lakes, and meadows all day and all night.

What to do: Nothing. Naboo is the planet for a vacation, not a trip. Swim, tan, get married in secret, and eventually let your forbidden love for your significant other facilitate your descent into madness and the dark side of the Force. You know, normal stuff.

What to look out for: Gungans; bigger fish.

  • The Johto Region on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#6) The Johto Region

Nestled between Mount Silver and Route 48, the Johto Region is the crown jewel of the Pokemon world. Traditional architecture and art make Johto a destination for travelers with sophisticated taste and a hankering for relaxation.

What to see: Johto National Park, The Burned Tower, The Tin Tower, The Whirl Islands, The Safari Zone, Golden Rod City Department Store and Underground, Goldenrod City Radio Tower, The Battle Frontier, The Dragon's Den, The Ilex Forest, Sprout Tower, and, of course, Mt. Silver.

What to do: When it comes to touring Johto, there are two general ways to go: a five-day, four-night trip across three cities, or a month-long immersion in the region.

If you choose the former option, your tour begins in Olivine City with a stop at both the beach and Battle Frontier - with a possible boat tour of The Whirl Islands, seas permitting. Following Olivine, you'll depart for Ecruteak City to take in the picturesque skyline marked with the stunning Tin Tower, followed by tractional dances (and Pokemon face-offs, if you're unlucky!) by the famed Kimono Sisters. The next morning, you'll depart for Goldenrod City, stopping at the Johto National Park on the way to potentially witness a bug-catching contest. Arriving in Goldenrod City on the third day, you'll be left with a few days to settle into this bustling metropolis before taking your leave, heading home or to Kanto on the magnet train.

What to look out for: Keep an eye out for Team Rocket. Though they disbanded years ago, many imposter groups have risen up in attempts to fill that void.

  • Neverland on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#7) Neverland

Everyone's imagined running away to Neverland at one point or another. The prospect of zero responsibilities and eternal youth are far too tempting to ignore - which is why there are so many different Neverlands to choose from. Find the one that connects with your heart the most and you'll find your way in no time.

What to see: The Jolly Roger, Hangman's Tree, Mermaid Lagoon, Skull Rock, Pixie Hollow, Tiki Forest, Faeries, The Lost Boys, Pirates.

What to do: Adventure! If you make it to Neverland, chances are you've believed in some fantasy since you were a small child. Go! Live that fantasy out in a land where anything is possible - so long as you have the heart of a child and an open mind.

What to look out for: Pirates!

  • Ember Island on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#8) Ember Island

Located in the northernmost tip of the Fire Nation, Ember Island hosts many high-ranking officials in the Fire Nation political machine. Younger children and adults also visit, but it's very easy to find a private stretch of beach to call one's own.

What to see: The Ember Island Players, black-sand beaches.

What to do: Enjoy the scenic vistas and dormant volcanoes that dot the island's rolling hills. The Ember Island Players are not to be missed - provided you don't require too much excitement from your entertainment.

What to look out for: Overwhelming emotional and character development after too much fun in the sun.

  • Limsa Lominsa, La Noscea Of Eorzea on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

(#9) Limsa Lominsa, La Noscea Of Eorzea

A maritime metropolis, Limsa Lominsa is a paradise for people that want to get lost in the hustle and bustle of a dirty port town.

What to see: The Arcanist's Guild, The Marauder's Guild, The Rogue's Guild, The Blacksmith's Guild, The Armorer's Guild, The Culinarian's Guild, The Fisherman's Guild, The Mark of Llymlaen, The Aftcastle, Limsa Lominsa's political district, and The Drowning Wench Adventurer's Guild.

What to do: Limsa Lominsa is a city for the tourist that likes to get their hands dirty. Take up a Levequest at the Drowning Wench and attempt any one of the numerous trials contracted by the various guilds. Fishing charters are a common occurrence as well. Hike the surrounding hills of La Noscea where you can see live dodo birds and giant sheep.

What to look out for: Reptilian Sahagin run rampant in these parts, so be wary. There's also the perpetual risk of both the Garlean Empire and, of course, pirates.

  • Silvermoon, Quel'Thalas on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#10) Silvermoon, Quel'Thalas

War-torn Silvermoon offers a somber retreat for travelers that wish to learn about a society of high elves that were nearly wiped out by the evil knight Arthas. Art, the arcane, and a hunger for vengeance make the home of the Blood Elves an item on anyone's bucket list.

What to see: The Sunwell, The Dead Scar, Sunfury Spire, The Royal Exchange, The Walk of Elders, the Orb of Translocation.

What to do: A pilgrimage to The Sunwell may prove difficult, as flight paths are the only option when it comes to traveling across the channel to Sunstrider Isle. It is well worth the effort, though.

Bear in mind that monsters still plague the region, so take care. Silvermoon is beautiful, but also a shell of its former glory. There are no street performers or nighttime festivals, just somber reflection of family and friends that have been lost in conflict. Keep this in mind as you visit.

What to look out for: Steer clear of "Augur's Row," for rogues and warlocks gather in the shadows. The same can be said for traveling too far south in the Eversong Woods. While the Dead Scar may not be an ever-marching threat, as it once was during the Third War, undead and constructs still plague these lands.

  • The Great Northern, Twin Peaks, WA on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

(#11) The Great Northern, Twin Peaks, WA

The largest hotel in the quaint town of Twin Peaks, WA, The Great Northern is a treasured landmark. Unfortunately, its reputation has been tainted by the demise of a local homecoming queen in the '90s.

What to see: The Double R Diner, The Roadhouse, One Eyed Jack's, the abundant forests.

What to do: Check into The Great Northern, then head down to The Double R. Grab yourself a cup of damn good coffee and a piece of cherry pie. Wait. Observe. Repeat. Venture out to either The Roadhouse or One Eyed Jack's if you're up for a bit of danger, and then hopefully check back in that night. Rinse, repeat.

What to look out for: Bob.

  • Highgarden, The Reach on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#12) Highgarden, The Reach

A cornucopia of wealth and finery, Highgarden is one of the more peaceful and prosperous places in Westeros. Financing the crown and providing significant portions of grain, wine, and other crops to the Crownlands, Highgarden enjoys a level of comfort not often seen outside of King's Landing - and with much less bloodshed.

What to see: Endless fields of yellow roses, the Briar Maze, The Godswood, the Sept of the Seven.

What to do: Highgarden is best observed and enjoyed from within the three great walls. The Briar Maze serves as both a means of whimsical entertainment and a defense against invasion. Highgarden's Godswood is unique in that it hosts not one but three heart trees, known collectively as The Three Singers.

What to look out for: Invading Lannister armies; ennui.

  • Camp Crystal Lake on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#13) Camp Crystal Lake

A time capsule of early 20th-century Americana, Camp Crystal Lake offers a vacation experience that's to die for.

What to see: Nature in all its bountiful glory, in addition to standard camp activities.

What to do: Running and swimming are great ways to connect with the natural environment. Camp Crystal Lake is one of those locales where physical fitness is not only useful, it's practically a requirement to survive.

What to look out for: Beware of drowning. Some kid was unlucky back in the '50s, and now they say the lake is cursed by some guy in a mask that allegedly chases people down with a machete and does them in. How absurd.

  • Hyrule Castle Town on Random Locations You Would Most Like To Have a Vacation

    (#14) Hyrule Castle Town

A shining city on a hill, Hyrule Castle and its surrounding town is living proof that the Hylians can overcome anything and build something incredible - regardless of what happens over and over again.

What to see: The Happy Mask Shop, The Temple of Time, Hyrule Castle, The Bombchu Bowling Alley, The Central Fountain.

What to do: Given that Hyrule is an especially great place to visit if time travel is your forte, your activities in the city may differ between periods.

If you're looking to explore Castle Town in the distant past, The Temple of Time and The Happy Mask Shop will offer great entertainment for relatively little effort. If you jump a few hundred years in the future, you may be greeted with a rather large pyramid cage over Hyrule Castle and the Castle Town itself. Is the distant future more your style? Too bad, everything was wiped out by a cloud-ghost-boar thing.

What to look out for: Guardians, cuccos, and - if you travel seven years into the future by pulling the Master Sword out of the Pedestal of Time - ReDeads.
