  • Everything Is Super Clean on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

    (#1) Everything Is Super Clean

Multiple Trump Tower residents have claimed the facility is always incredibly clean.

Susana Galli, a media producer who lives in the tower, told NY Mag the staff has an "obsession" with cleanliness:

They clean in the morning, they clean in the afternoon, and it’s always perfect... I had water coming from the ceiling of the bathroom... I was literally hysterical. I called the staff and said, ‘I have Venice in my bathroom. I have the Niagara Falls coming from the ceiling.’ Tuesday afternoon, when I came home, my bathroom was painted, and it was cleaner than my cleaning lady leaves it. It was spotless.

  • It's Aesthetically Gorgeous, But The Walls Are Thin on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#2) It's Aesthetically Gorgeous, But The Walls Are Thin

The tower may be beautiful, but it wasn't built using sound-proof materials. An anonymous tenant told NY Mag "the construction is shoddy," leading to condos with "thin walls." This tenant assumes:

Everything was done to cut corners but to make it look really beautiful. I mean, the apartments are gorgeous. But that doesn’t mean that you’d look underneath... I said to a friend that if you sneeze in Apartment 4A, they say 'God bless you' in 37C.

The tenant went on to blame the poor construction for the rule against making too much noise after 4pm.

  • Protestors Make Residents Uncomfortable on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

    (#3) Protestors Make Residents Uncomfortable

As you might imagine, living in a building owned by President Trump can put unwanted attention on your home. According to Guido Lombardi, a real estate developer who – like Trump – owns a condo in Mar-a-Lago, things were pretty relaxed outside of the tower throughout the election. Protests only started getting out of hand after Trump became president. Lombardi told NY Mag:

When the Secret Service started to get involved and then the mayor closed the street, it started to become very uncomfortable for a lot of people. I personally don’t care. But some of the ladies, especially the ones that come from a different country or a different background, they’re not used to that kind of treatment, and so some of them are very, very upset.

  • Secret Service Is Everywhere on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

    (#4) Secret Service Is Everywhere

Aside from the normal security in Trump Tower, residents have to live with Secret Service agents. Elaine Rigolosi, a professor at Columbia, said the federal security members are "all over the building."

Allegedly, driving into the building has become quite a chore thanks to the Secret Service. According to Rigolosi

You have to drive to Madison Avenue to have your car sniffed before you can drive it in and drop off any packages. There’s a scanner on 56th Street. If you’re walking in there with packages, you have to put them through, like an airport.

Kirk Henckels, the vice chairman of Stribling & Associates, says the "disruptions" caused by Secret Service is the reason why many old tenants are putting their condos up for sale.

  • More People Are Visiting Trump Tower Than Ever on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#5) More People Are Visiting Trump Tower Than Ever

Now that Trump Tower is owned by the President of the United States, a record number of tourists are stopping by.

According to Business Insider, crowds of people storm the building every day to take photos, argue with each other, and gawk at the property. Two employees said they feel like the location has a record number of visitors.

Trump Tower's most infamous visitor is the Naked Cowboy, the street performer who used to spend all his time in Times Square. He's thrown his support behind Trump and now sings politically charged songs while walking around out front in his underwear.

  • A Lot Of Criminals Live In Trump Tower on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#6) A Lot Of Criminals Live In Trump Tower

Most of Trump Tower's tenants are wealthy people you've never heard of, and a select few have been involved in all manner of illegal activities.

There's Hillel Nahmad, an art collector, who's been in the building since 1999. In 2014 he went to prison for running a gambling ring. One of his neighbors, Ernie Garcia, plead guilty to bank fraud in 1990; another tenant, Jose Maria Marin, is serving a prison sentence after trying to bribe members of the FIFA board.

Steven Hoffenberg, who served 18 years in prison for running fraudulent businesses, believes, "Mr. Trump is very objective. Renting space has nothing to do with color or race or indictment. It has to do with if you can pay the rent."

  • The Building Isn't As Tall As Trump Says It Is on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#7) The Building Isn't As Tall As Trump Says It Is

Trump has a proven record of misconstruing facts. While many of his incorrect assertions involve global politics or national law, it turns out his knowledge of Trump Tower is also somewhat foggy.

Officially, all of Trump Tower's marketing claims the building is 68 stories tall, but that's only true if you buy into some tricky math. When constructing the building, workers skipped over floors 6-13, as well as 27-29. Even though the top of the building is technically floor 68, there are not 67 stories below it.

  • Trump Doesn't Actually Own Most Of The Trump Buildings on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#8) Trump Doesn't Actually Own Most Of The Trump Buildings

Even though his name is plastered on almost every building he has financial stake in, Trump actually maintains a pretty hands-off relationship with his properties.

Excluding Trump Tower on 5th Avenue, Trump's company simply acts as building management. The Trump Organization is the president's real estate company, and while it oversees many properties, it doesn't actually own them. Instead, these locations are just using Trump's name as part of a licensing agreement.

For instance, the Trump Organization provides "security, utilities and janitorial service" for a clock tower run by the National Park Service even though it doesn't own the clock tower.

  • The Staff Is Great on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

    (#9) The Staff Is Great

According to everyone who's spoken to the press about living in Trump Tower, the location is run by a world-class staff. Carpet designer James Tufenkian told NY Mag he's had some problems with his neighbors, but "can’t say anything but good things about the staff. Not only are they always there to help, but they do it with a really warm, welcoming, and caring attitude."

Italian fugitive Susetta Mion also praised the building's team, telling Bloomberg the staff is her "favorite part" of the location. Mion continued, "They are so polite they don’t talk about anything. Here I don’t need to close the door."

  • Condo Sales Have Slowed Down on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#10) Condo Sales Have Slowed Down

According to Town & Country, condo sales at Trump Tower saw a major slowdown after Trump became president. Not only have the number of listings within the building increased since Trump's inauguration, the prices have also decreased to what's considered below-market value.

Despite the price cuts, only five of 21 apartments have been sold since Trump took office. Real estate website City Realty calculated the "average price per square foot in Trump Tower" is down 23% from 2015.

While no one has explicitly said they've listed their units because Trump is president, the timing is uncanny. Kirk Henckels, the vice chairman of Stribling & Associates, believes this is no coincidence. "This is clearly a remarkable situation and obviously spurred by one resident being the president of the United States."

  • The Building Lacks Many Fire Safety Precautions on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#11) The Building Lacks Many Fire Safety Precautions

In early 2018 Trump Tower caught fire and the ensuing blaze killed Todd Brassner,  a 67-year-old an art collector. According to many of Brassner's friends, the collector hated living in the building, likening it to an "armed camp" after Trump was elected president.

Allegedly, Brassner tried to get rid of his apartment multiple times "before and after the election" but found "he couldn't give it away" once people heard Trump owned the building.

According to the BBC, the building doesn't have a sprinkler system in place because it was constructed in 1983, before New York City required skyscrapers to include fire safety precautions. Since owners are not required to install sprinklers until they start work on a major renovation, the building is still sprinkler-free as of 2018.

  • Realtors Are Trying To Capitalize On The Hubub on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#12) Realtors Are Trying To Capitalize On The Hubub

Even though many are turned off by Trump Tower's affiliation with the President of the United States, realtors are trying to make the best of the situation.

Realtor Julius A. Liu of NY NY Condo Inc. has attempted to turn around many of the negatives associated with the tower. He says the biggest selling point of Trump Tower is the added security—even if some residents aren't crazy about it. According to Liu, "It's an inconvenience to some, but there are people who say, 'You know what? This is the safest building in the city now.'"

The real estate company Douglas Elliman has begun to tout one of their properties in the building as "the best value in the most secure building in Manhattan." They even refer to the Secret Service as "The New Aminity [sic]."

  • You're Not Going To Bump Into The President on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#13) You're Not Going To Bump Into The President

Even though he owns a third of the building, residents aren't likely to run into the president any time soon.

It might seem like Trump would spend all his free in the tower, especially after the Pentagon signed an 18-month, $2.5 million deal to install a command post next to his penthouse. However, the president is actually most commonly found at the White House or in Florida at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

While a Trump sighting is unlikely, tourists could totally run into Paul Manafort – the president's former campaign manager who's facing heat from the Mueller investigation –as he owns a penthouse just a few floors below Trump.

  • You Never Know Who's Going To Be In The Building on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#14) You Never Know Who's Going To Be In The Building

According to Domus Artbier Realty Corp. President Giampiero Rispo, about 15 years ago a couple who leased a penthouse received a call from Trump.

The then-mogul asked if he could show someone around their apartment. They didn't mind, and as luck would have it, Trump used their penthouse to sell Michael Jackson on purchasing his own unit.

While many famous people have resided in the building over the years, it's hard to find out exactly where they live, as the doors don't feature letters or numbers. Still, if you hang out inside for long enough, you're sure to run into someone famous.

  • Tourists Love Taking Pictures Of The Doorman on Random Details about Inside Trump Tower

(#15) Tourists Love Taking Pictures Of The Doorman

After Trump's inauguration, people began to hang out in front of Trump Tower hoping to snap a pic of America's 45th president. Since the president is rarely at the tower, the masses have shifted focus onto doorman John Thomas.

According to the NY Post, Thomas has been included in hundreds of photos and is now something of a New York City tourist attraction. The doorman told the Post, "I've had some people take pictures of me. Then they send me the picture back, and I'm part of their Christmas card."
