  • The Very First Poster Hinted At The Monster’s Appearance on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#1) The Very First Poster Hinted At The Monster’s Appearance

Perhaps the biggest question stemming from the first Cloverfield’s marketing was simply, “What does the monster look like?” Trailers refused to show so much as a glimpse of the full creature, and the film doesn’t reveal the monster until the last few seconds.

That may seem like a long time for a monster movie to hide its crazy creature, but as it turns out, the creators revealed it right from the start. The very first poster for Cloverfield included a weird shape in the smoke pouring from a damaged New York City. By duplicating and flipping the image, it becomes clear that the smoke is actually in the form of the final monster.

  • A Whisper During The ‘Cloverfield’ End Credits Hints The Story Isn’t Over on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#2) A Whisper During The ‘Cloverfield’ End Credits Hints The Story Isn’t Over

Thanks to Marvel films, audiences are trained to expect additional footage during end credit sequences. But back when Cloverfield released in 2008, that wasn’t necessarily the case. For fans willing to stick around and learn who the gaffer and makeup artists were, though, there was a small bit of audio that clued remaining audiences into the future of the story. Right before the movie ends, a man whispers, “It’s still alive.”

Clearly, this sets up future films in the Cloverfield franchise.

  • The Monster Was Awakened By A Company Called Tagruato on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#3) The Monster Was Awakened By A Company Called Tagruato

Each Cloverfield film’s release was preceded by several clues hidden on the internet for enthusiastic nerds to track down and interpret. Fans scoured fake websites and cracked codes to learn important background information about each movie: When it takes place, what it's about, and where can we buy tickets right freaking now?

One of the most important things revealed is that a fictional company called Tagruato may be responsible for awakening the first Cloverfield monster thanks to its shady underwater mining practices.

  • Slusho! - A Tagruato Product - Appears In Most Bad Robot Productions on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#4) Slusho! - A Tagruato Product - Appears In Most Bad Robot Productions

Slusho! is basically a delicious, radioactive slushie. The fictional product has appeared in numerous Bad Robot productions (JJ Abram’s company), beginning with Alias. The brand also appears in all three Cloverfield films, and the company is owned in-universe by Tagruato.

The drink is made from something called Seabed’s Nectar, which can only be found in the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean - exactly where the Cloverfield monster resides.

  • A Crashing Satellite In ‘Cloverfield’ Ties Into ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#5) A Crashing Satellite In ‘Cloverfield’ Ties Into ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’

At the end of the first Cloverfield, what appears to be a satellite crashes off the coast of Coney Island, NY. This scene in question is actually a part of the flashback footage featured throughout the film.

In The Cloverfield Paradox, meanwhile, Ava’s escape pod is said to crash somewhere off the coast of Delaware, which isn’t too far from Coney Island - especially if the escape pod was careening haphazardly through the air.

Could that crash from the first film be Ava’s escape pod?

  • The News Reporter From ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Gets Infected In ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#6) The News Reporter From ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Gets Infected In ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’

One of the most memorable scenes in 10 Cloverfield Lane comes when Michelle attempts to escape the bunker, only to be confronted by a woman who’s infected with something. The woman begs to get inside the shelter, but Michelle refuses, deciding to stay inside with Howard.

But that’s not the last time we see the woman. She also makes a brief cameo in The Cloverfield Paradox as a reporter on a news station. It’s unclear how she gets from there to rural New Orleans, but it’s absolutely the same actor.

  • The Radio In ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ References The First Film on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#7) The Radio In ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ References The First Film

At the beginning of 10 Cloverfield Lane, Michelle hears on the radio about power outages along the East Coast. Presumably, these are the same outages seen in Cloverfield and The Cloverfield Paradox.

Michelle happens to be far enough removed not to know what’s happening yet, and she’s in a car accident before she ever gets a chance to learn.

  • Two Films Feature Kelvin Gasoline on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#8) Two Films Feature Kelvin Gasoline

Much like Slusho!’s frequent appearance in the Cloverfield films, Kelvin Gasoline shows up in the latter two movies.

In 10 Cloverfield Lane, Michelle gasses up her car at a Kelvin Gasoline station to start the film. In The Cloverfield Paradox, meanwhile, we see a logo implying Kelvin helped create the space station on which the movie takes place.

  • Howard From ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Worked For Tagruato on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#9) Howard From ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Worked For Tagruato

Though it no longer exists, plucky fans once discovered a Tagruato website that listed Howard from 10 Cloverfield Lane as an employee of the month.

His connection to the company that created the original monster possibly explains his desire to build a bunker to survive an impending apocalypse. That, and his creepy perversions.

  • Mark Stambler From ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Is Likely The Brother Of Howard From ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#10) Mark Stambler From ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Is Likely The Brother Of Howard From ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’

The same Cloverfield Paradox news broadcast led by the soon-to-be-infected woman from 10 Cloverfield Lane also features a conspiracy theorist named Mark Stambler. He even wrote a book called The Cloverfield Paradox, warning about the dangers of messing with particle accelerators.

That’s interesting as is, but there’s another character with the last name Stambler in the Cloververse. Howard Stambler, the bunker-dwelling man from 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Maybe the woman tries finding Mark’s brother after the attacks because Mark told her about Howard’s hideout.

  • The Monster At The End Of ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Is An Adult Version Of The One In ‘Cloverfield’ on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#11) The Monster At The End Of ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Is An Adult Version Of The One In ‘Cloverfield’

It’s not the most subtle Easter egg, but the monster at the end of The Cloverfield Paradox appears to be a much larger version of the one in Cloverfield.

The films are set 10 years apart, and during that time the monster has clearly been eating well.

  • Both ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ And ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Show Bunkers Built Before The Attacks on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#12) Both ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ And ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Show Bunkers Built Before The Attacks

Ava Hamilton's husband in The Cloverfield Paradox desperately seeks out shelter to hide from the massive monster destroying everything. At one point, he texts a man viewers never see named “Peter,” who apparently owns a bunker.

It’s a different bunker from the one Howard builds in 10 Cloverfield Lane, but how is it that two totally different characters have already built bunkers in apparent preparation for an alien invasion? Who is Peter and is he connected to Howard or Tagruato somehow?

  • The Name 'Cloverfield' Refers To Several Things In-Universe on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#13) The Name 'Cloverfield' Refers To Several Things In-Universe

What’s interesting about the name "Cloverfield" is how many different ways it’s applied to the happenings in the Cloververse. After the first film, "Cloverfield" is the government codename for the monster event. It’s also the name of the road where the second film occurs. And it’s the name of the station in The Cloverfield Paradox, which makes one wonder who is picking these names.

It also lends credence to the theory that all three films don't technically exist in the same universe at the same time.

  • ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ May Have Caused The ‘Cloverfield’ Blackouts on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#14) ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ May Have Caused The ‘Cloverfield’ Blackouts

There’s a fan theory circulating about how the blackouts in the first Cloverfield occurred. Redditor /u/ DubC-Ent decided to play the first and third films together, and they realized the power outage in the original movie and the parallel dimension travel in The Cloverfield Paradox both happen around 18 minutes and 20 seconds into their respective films.

JJ Abrams has since admitted this wasn’t intentional, but given the connections between the films, that doesn’t mean the events are entirely unrelated.

  • The Dimensional Travel In ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Probably Created The Disaster on Random 'Cloverfield' Easter Eggs You Definitely Missed

(#15) The Dimensional Travel In ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ Probably Created The Disaster

Cloververse fans wonder how these three disparate movies all happen to fit into the same story. After all, one is a monster movie while another seems to include an alien attack. The key to it all may be the interdimensional travel in The Cloverfield Paradox.

When Mark Stambler is warning against using the particle accelerator, he says doing so could unleash “monsters, demons, and beasts from the sea… not just here, but in the past, future, and other dimensions.” While we don’t fully understand what that quote means yet, it appears the actions in The Cloverfield Paradox may have affected the universes of Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

When the ship is fully engaged in The Cloverfield Paradox, the screen turns deep red, which is something Emmett mentions having seen at one point in 10 Cloverfield Lane. Maybe all the crazy things that have happened in the Cloververse are playing out in different, simultaneous timelines whose problems all began in The Cloverfield Paradox.

We likely won’t know for sure until they finally come out with a fourth Cloverfield movie.
