Not only that, but his throat is crushed before he can reveal Pain's true identity to Fukusaku.

  One of the most crucial fights in My Hero Academia is the showdown between All Might and his longtime nemesis, All For One. While the whole world is watching, All Might manages to defeat All For One, but it's at the cost of what's left of his power. As the battle ends, he points to his successor, Izuku, and tells him, "you're next."

  Netero is one of the strongest people in the Hunter x Hunter world, so it makes sense that he'd be the one to take on the Chimera King. But even Netero's strongest attacks weren't enough - he only defeated Meruem via a trump card - Poor Man's Rose, a bomb implanted in his body that was set to go off when Netero's own heart stopped. Though Meruem survives the fight, the bomb released a poison that would ultimately claim his life.

  Kurapika's primary goal at the start of Hunter x Hunter is to destroy the Phantom Troupe, a group that destroyed his clan in order to steal their valuable eyes. His first target is Uvogin, a man so strong that his punches have the strength of missiles. He defeats him using a technique called Judgement Chain, a Nen technique devised for the sole purpose of enacting his revenge.

  After determining that Estarossa is the strongest of the Ten Commandments, Escanor decides he's worth challenging him to a fight. It's a difficult battle, but Escanor ultimately ends it by using his Cruel Sun attack. This sends Estarossa and his brother Zeldris flying away - though they are implied to have survived.

  As one of the only battles that involves two humans instead of a mix of humans and Titans, the fight between Levi and his uncle Kenny stands out. The two of them zipping around with their blades out is aesthetical on point and viscerally thrilling, but this epic fight is also sort of sad considering their tragic family history.

During their long battle, Gohan shows himself to be both an extremely capable fighter, and also a more vicious one than anyone predicted.

  With his cowardly demeanor, Zenitsu is the last person anyone would expect to get into a serious fight. But after being poisoned, threatened with the prospect of transforming into a spider, and almost totally overwhelmed, he remembers his earlier training and uses a powerful electric attack to decide the battle. It's a rare moment of heroism for an otherwise not-so-heroic character.

  Patolli is a dark elf who despises humanity and craves vengeance for the wrongs committed by the Clover Kingdom. That's why he launches an attack on Julius Novachrono, the emperor. The battle involves magic spells, physical combat, and philosophical discussion - and it ends with Julius' defeat and his passing.

  Most people don't remember Code Geass for being a mecha anime, but that doesn't mean it didn't have some amazing mech battles. One of them was Kallen Kōzuki vs Suzaku Kururugi, which took place at the end of the first season. The two clash because Suzaku is attempting to interfere with Lelouch's plans, and Kallen isn't having it. Despite his skill, she isn't able to stop him.

  (#17) Genkai vs Younger Toguro - 'Yu Yu Hakusho'

  This is one of the most upsetting fights in Yu Yu Hakusho, but it's also the turning point of the Dark Tournament arc. Up until now, Toguro has been flexing his strength for Yusuke - it's only when he fights his former teammate Genkai that we learn a little bit about his motivation. Sadly, the fight ends with Genkai's demise - probably because Toguro didn't dare to take her on until after she'd already passed most of her ability onto Yusuke.

  Shinya Kogami has been wanting revenge on Shougo Makishima for a long time. Meanwhile, protagonist Akane Tsunemori does want to stop him, but is reluctant to take a life. That's why during an attempt to stop Makishima from destroying Japan's supply of grain, it's Kogami who takes him on.

  (#19) Iggy & Polnareff vs Vanilla Ice - 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure'

  Despite the fact that the two didn't exactly get along, Iggy and Polnareff joined forces to take on Vanilla Ice. The battle proves difficult - so difficult, in fact, that Iggy ends up sacrificing himself to save Polnareff. Luckily, his sacrifice wasn't in vain - Polnareff is able to pull off a decisive victory.

  In order to protect, Toko and Hiyori, Zoro takes on Killer. While he's able to defeat him by taking his weapons and using them against him, it isn't an easy fight - Zoro even loses consciousness from a hit.
