  • Lotus Solar Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#1) Lotus Solar Yellow

Lotus is a fairly small company -- and like most small companies, it doesn't often change what doesn't need to be changed. Lemon Yellow was Lotus' near default color from 1976 through 1991. It's PPG Code 83935, Autocolor code 0455. However, in the modern era, Lotus is more closely associated with a gorgeous pearl yellow known as Solar. Introduced in 2014, Solar has become quite popular as an aftermarket color among the tuner and super bike set.

    BASF code 751846.

  • Viper Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#2) Viper Yellow

Used from 1993 to 1998 on the first generation Viper, this was a color you simply could not escape if you cared anything about cars during this decade. Also known (unfortunately) as Dandelion Yellow.

PPG code 83431, Dupont B9333 and Sherwin Williams 46948.

  • Ford Triple Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#3) Ford Triple Yellow

This striking yellow is true to its name, being about three time the color of any other here listed. Introduced in 2015 for the Mustang (later Focus), Triple Yellow appears to shift from a bright Canary, to Mustard to Dark Ochre depending on the angle.

Factory code M7338, PPG 937696 and BASF 913696.

  • Lamborghini Giallo Evros on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#4) Lamborghini Giallo Evros

This is what you might call the "modern" Lamborghini Yellow. A slightly deeper and more sophisticated shade than the old Superfly, Giallo does a much better job of highlighting the sharp character lines and angular surfaces modern Lamborghinis are known for. Somewhat comparable to Ford's Triple Yellow.

PPG code 84902, BASF code 619640.

  • Stinger Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#5) Stinger Yellow

The latest and greatest of Chrysler's yellow shades, used almost exclusively on performance vehicles. A bit more mellow than the much brighter Detonator/Solar Yellow (PPG 912790), Stinger has a deeper, an almost pearlescent quality that causes it to turn slightly orange at certain angles.

PPG code 931309 and BASF 885166.

  • GM Competition Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#6) GM Competition Yellow

Used by both Chevrolet for the Corvette and Hummer for the H2. For many, competition Yellow is the definitive color for either of these vehicles produced from 1990 to 2007.

Factory code WA9804, PPG code 4266 and Dupont B9058.

  • Daytona Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#7) Daytona Yellow

This bright, simple shade was used primarily by GM on Camaros, Corvettes, GTOs and other muscle cars from 1969 through 1983. Daytona makes any car look like a giant Hot Wheels toy--which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Also employed by Chrysler for fleet vehicle applications.

GM code WA3893, Chrysler DT2468, PPG 2094 and Dupont 50226LH.

  • 1931 Chrysler Partridge Cream on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#8) 1931 Chrysler Partridge Cream

Only in use for one year from the factory, Partridge Cream was probably the brightest color available from any manufacturer in 1931. Didn't last long in factory applications due to the issues inherent with applying the color on such a large scale; but this enamel has long proven the darling of old-school hot-rodders. Especially for flame jobs.

    PPG code IM847, Dupont 246-30544.

  • GM Bright Yellow (Late) on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#9) GM Bright Yellow (Late)

Used from 2002 to 2005 on Chevy and GMC trucks, Bright Yellow closely competes with Competition Yellow for this decades most eye-searing shade.

Factory code WA962J, PPG 5981 and Dupont P4917.

  • Golden Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#10) Golden Yellow

Used by GM, Ford and Chrysler on practically everything from 1955 through 1983. Golden is the yellow almost everyone associates classics from the 1950s and 60s, and remains a popular choice for hot-rodders today.

Ford code MX708524, GM code WE5927, Chrysler code DT2183, and PPG code 80853.

  • Ford Canary Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#11) Ford Canary Yellow

Many manufacturers have used the words "Canary Yellow," but the color employed by Ford from 1993 to 2006 more or less defines the term. Ask most people to imagine a "Canary Yellow" car, and this is probably what they'll have in mind. Also known as "Chrome Yellow," "Zinc Yellow" and "Screaming Yellow."

Ford code M6675, PPG 4736 and Dupont B9355.

  • 1972 GM Sunburst Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#12) 1972 GM Sunburst Yellow

It was only used for one model year, but Sunburst (aka "Sunfire," "Cream" and "Monarch") has proven one of the subtler and classier yellows to be used on muscle-era GM vehicles. Subtle without being boring, this misty yellow is just bright enough to grab attention without looking like it came from a 12-year-old's crayon box.

Factory code WA4271, PPG 2444 and Dupont 5443L.

  • Bright Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#13) Bright Yellow

Yet another shade shared by both GM and Chrysler. GM used this color on 1974 and 1975 performance cars, and Chrysler resurrected it in 1983 for fleet vehicles. Bright yellow has experienced a recent resurgence in popularity thanks to its appearance in a certain movie about transforming robots.

GM code WA4642, Chrysler DT2590, PPG 2677 and Dupont 42809L.

  • GM Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#14) GM Yellow

Used from 2001 to 2008 almost exclusively on trucks and crossovers. A slightly darker, more orange shade than Competition Yellow.

Factory code WA5446, PPG code 83556 and Dupont P0986.

  • Chrysler Top Bannana on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#15) Chrysler Top Bannana

Originally introduced in 1970 as one of MOPAR's High Impact colors, Top Banana found its way onto the flanks of practically every great muscle car the company produced until 1972. After that it got a name change to Lemon Twist, the Bright Yellow, finally retiring from fleet applications in 1983.

    Factory code DT2469, PPG 2211 and Dupont 5180L. n

  • Lamborghini Superfly Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#16) Lamborghini Superfly Yellow

This is what you might call the "modern" Lamborghini Yellow. A slightly deeper and more sophisticated shade than the old Superfly, Giallo does a much better job of highlighting the sharp character lines and angular surfaces modern Lamborghinis are known for. Somewhat comparable to Ford's Triple Yellow.

PPG code 84902, BASF code 619640.

  • Classic Caterpillar Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#17) Classic Caterpillar Yellow

If you're looking for a shade of yellow that will strike passers-by as different, yet weirdly familiar, you can't go wrong with Classic CAT. While Caterpillar has in fact used many shades of yellow on its engines and construction equipment, this is the one most people will recognize from the logo and every bulldozer they've ever seen. Also used by Chrysler for fleet vehicles in 1983, because...of course.

Classic CAT yellow is PPG code 80979, Chrysler code DT2107. If you prefer the post-2000 CAT Yellow, it's PPG code 88279 or 88300.

  • School Bus Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#18) School Bus Yellow

Who doesn't love that classic shade of bright orange known as "School Bus Yellow?" Apparently GM, since they changed the name to "Wheatland Yellow" one year after introducing it in 1975. But whatever the name, it was used in GM or Chrysler applications from then until 1992, those of us who grew up with it will forever associate this shade with early morning rides on The Cheesewagon.

GM code WA5247, Chrysler DT2395, PPG 2785 and Dupont 43536.

  • War Bonnet Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#19) War Bonnet Yellow

From 1971 to 1971, GM employed this odd shade of golden/bronze/mustard/brown yellow on Corvettes. Not to everyone's taste, but definitely interesting if you're into earthy tones.

GM code WA4148, PPG 2351 and Dupont 5292LM.

  • John Deere Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#20) John Deere Yellow

If this doesn't rank in at least the Top 10, then there just aren't enough rednecks on the internet. John Deere has used several yellows over the years; the classic Bright Yellow from the logo is PPG 81986, but the most common classic color used on equipment is PPG 83558. Modern tractors (2002-later) use PPG 902265. You can buy the paint directly from John Deere itself, but you're really only paying extra for a JD label on the can. Which isn't entirely without value, if you're looking to re-pot a few house plants. Come on ya'll...represent.

  • Ford Chrome Yellow on Random Best Factory Paints for Yellow Cars

    (#21) Ford Chrome Yellow

Not to be confused with the PPG's Chrome Yellow, Ford's 1962 to 1987 take on the color was decidedly more restrained--almost orange. Sort of fascinating and beautiful in its own way. Also used by Chrysler in some fleet applications.

Ford code M1526, Chrysler DT2294, PPG 81353 and Dupont 4357.
