  • Subaru S209 on Random Best 2020 Subaru Models We Can't Wait To Drive

    (#1) Subaru S209

The S209 is a limited-edition love haiku from Japan, on forged 19” BBS wheels, and steroids. Seen here for the first time in the States, the lineage of Subaru’s S-Series goes back nearly two decades to the original S201. Each model represents the latest culmination of STI’s R&D into rally, rally-cross, road-racing, time attacks, and hill climbs. The S209 proudly boasts 341 turbocharged horsepower supported by a water-cooled intercooler, an uprated fuel pump and injectors, and a remapped engine control unit. All that power rides on a freshly retuned STI chassis, STI-tuned Bilstein® dampers, STI-designed front and rear draw stiffeners, a flexible STI tower bar, and pillow-ball suspension bushings. This lovely beast is wrapped in a new widebody design featuring a carbon roof and rear spoiler, and topped off with a low-restriction exhaust that sounds like a tiger purring. Unfortunately, Subaru is only producing 209 units to be sold this year in America. Insert the meme here of Fry from Futurama waving cash while yelling, “Just shut up and take my money!”

  • Subaru Impreza WRX STI on Random Best 2020 Subaru Models We Can't Wait To Drive

    (#2) Subaru Impreza WRX STI

    • Subaru, Subaru Impreza

2020 brings the induction of another limited edition production line within Subaru - the Series.White. These cars are built for driving enthusiasts who prefer minimalistic, track-ready rides. The WRX STI Series.White is stripped of unnecessaries to the point of being borderline-anorexic, including ditching the spare tire in favor of a repair kit to reduce weight. The chassis and suspension have been beefed up with Bilstein STI sport-tuned suspension and heavy-duty steering rack mounts. It also has new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and Monoblock Brembo brake calipers (6-piston front, 2-piston rear), in silver finish with black STI logo. With only 500 in production, don’t expect to be coming home with one anytime soon. Of course, if these sell out before you can get one, you can always settle for a standard WRX STI. That’s not too bad of a compromise, in the scheme of things.

  • Subaru BRZ tS on Random Best 2020 Subaru Models We Can't Wait To Drive

    (#3) Subaru BRZ tS

The legendary handling of the BRZ is kicked up to 11 with the tS model, and returns for its second production year. “tS” stands for “tuned by STI,” which means the mad scientists at Subaru Tecnica International made an already awesome car even better. They did so with the addition of a front crossmember draw stiffener, front strut tower V-bar, an STI-developed sport suspension, and Brembo brakes. Matte bronze-finished 18 x 7.5-inch STI alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin® Pilot® Sport summer performance tires make this car stick to tarmac like bubble gum. The Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system features Track Mode for even more handling control when you need it. Cherry red accents inside and out show this car means business, while maintaining a fun, sporty personality. Like the Series.White, the tS is only offered in Ceramic White paint, and production is severely limited to just 300 units for the US in 2020.

Inside, passengers will find Ultrasuede-trimmed Recaro seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and moonroof deletion for enhanced chassis reinforcement. The WRX Series.White rides on a high-performance Bilstein sport-tuned suspension, featuring Bilstein dampers for the front inverted struts, and rear double wishbones (a first for the humble WRX). It’s stopped securely by Brembo brakes featuring red 4-piston front calipers, with 2-piston calipers in the rear.

    • Subaru

The new Impreza is the most budget-friendly model to hit Subaru’s 2020 lots, with an MSRP starting at a mere $18,695. You get a whole lot of car for that price, with more than 100 cubic feet of passenger space in the 5-door option - beating the Honda Civic, Mazda3, and Toyota Corolla hatchbacks. It’s also the only import hatchback featuring all-wheel drive as a standard option. This, combined with available bells and whistles - like an 8-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system available on the Sport and Limited models - has us excited to take its 152 horsepower boxer engine out on adventures up mountains, to beaches, or simply running errands.

    (#9) Subaru Legacy

2020’s Legacy boasts a completely upgraded interior, something the usually Spartan Japanese designers should take note of. It cultivates a more comfortable and quiet ride than prior models, with more legroom for rear seat passengers than the Chevy Malibu, Toyota Camry, or Hyundai Sonata. The Touring XT package kicks up the refinement even further, with touches like genuine Nappa Leather, heated steering wheel, and heated front and rear seats. Plus, it's loaded with tech like optional built-in Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, and the optional STARLINK Entertainment Anywhere package - which includes two Apple iPads, OtterBox® Defender Series iPad cases to keep them safe, and two Harman Kardon® Bluetooth Headphones. A surefire way to keep even the most restless passengers entertained on long drives.
