While this is happening, Mayuri takes the opportunity to explain the drug's effects while slowly stabbing Syazel. By the time it's over, Syazel has experienced hundreds of years worth of pain.

  Like most people in Parasyte, Nobuko Izumi's life comes to an end when her brain is taken over by a parasite. While this is painful, it's not exceptional. What is exceptional is that her body is used after her demise to nearly end her son Shinichi's life, and when the parasite living inside of her is finally killed, it's at Shinichi's hands.

  Blood-C is full of grisly deaths, and two of the most excruciating belong to twins Nene and Nono Motoi. The two are chased by a Cerberus, who first grabs Nono and bashes her against the ground before eating her, then turns Nene upside-down and rips her vertically in half before eating her too.

  What's truly horrifying about Mayuri's death isn't so much the method - though some of these are horrible - especially the one where a failed time travel experience turn her body into jelly - but how many times it occurs. Rintaro Okabe bends time and space repeatedly in order to save her, but no matter how many times he tries, she always meets with a grisly fate.

  During his final showdown with the Survey Corps, Bertholdt Hoover is ripped out of his Titan form, then has his arms and legs chopped off so that he can't transform again. He's then fed to a Titan as he screams for help from people who - in his final moments - he can't remember are his enemies.

  Despite being one of Ash Lynx's best friends, Shorter is forced to betray him when his sister's life is threatened. By placing his fate in the hands of some seriously unscrupulous people, he ends up being injected with a drug that not only causes him excruciating pain, but also controls his mind and makes him try to kill Ash's other close friend, Eiji - which forces Ash to shoot Shorter. It's an emotionally wrenching scene.

Nina suffered a tragic and cruel demise under the hands of her own father. Although Scar delivers a mercy-killing to Nina in order to put her out of her misery, it's still tragic that she had to undergo this experience in her last moments. What makes it worse it that even though her father deserved it, Nina was still upset at her father's death and mourned him before being killed herself.

  All the deaths in Narutaru are awful, but Norio Koga's, which involves being sexually assaulted, castrated, and injected with a drug to make sure he didn't lose consciousness before he's finally torn apart and decapitated, is among the worst. Even worse, he could have defended himself with his Shadow Dragon, but he's too busy defending a girl who is the love interest of the boy he loves.

  It's almost impossible to imagine the agony that the Chimera Ant Squadron Leader Zazan must have experienced as she was being burnt alive by Feitan's Rising Sun technique. He literally created a miniature sun, which incinerated her almost immediately - but not so immediately that she didn't have a chance to feel pain.

  When Illuso goes up against Pannacotta Fugo and Purple Haze, he's destroyed by the Stand's signature attack, Killer Virus Infection. This fast-acting, flesh-eating virus turns the victim into literal mush within minutes.

  Given that Hunter x Hunter is such a dark and violent series, it's not surprising that it made it twice on this list. Pokkle's death is so gruesome that many viewers couldn't help but squirm during this scene. After being captured by the Chimera Ants, Neferpitou probes Pokkle's brain while he's still alive in order to get information out of him. As if being picked at with giant needles isn't terrible enough, he is eventually butchered to death by Pig and served as food to the Chimera Ant Queen.

  Although most of the deaths in Devilman Crybaby are brutal, the demise of the entire Makimura family is particularly cruel. When Miki's younger brother, Taro, turns into a demon, the father finds him devouring his own mother. Although Taro isn't human anymore, his father can't bring himself to shoot him. Instead, he gets shot multiple times trying to protect his son from armed forces. 

  Miki's death is also shocking and tragic as she gets stabbed in the back by an angry mob. The following scene is even worse as we see her dismembered body being paraded on sticks. No one in this family deserved what they got.
