  • Seahorse Seashell Party on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#1) Seahorse Seashell Party

    • October 2, 2011

As part of a special Fox event, a hurricane visits Quahog after also coming through Langley Falls and Stoolbend in "Seahorse Seashell Party." Brian trips on mushrooms while Meg finally confronts her family for treating her so poorly over the years.

Why it falls short: Fans hated how this episode has a really disturbing message at its core. Meg suffers an immense amount of abuse at the hands of her family. But when she confronts them, they start turning on one another. She accepts her role as the family punching bag, making the message essentially that abuse victims should remain in abusive situations without a fight. Surely that couldn't be what the writers were really going for, was it?

  • Life of Brian on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#2) Life of Brian

    • November 24, 2013

"Life of Brian" is the famous episode that killed off Brian. Stewie destroyed his time machine earlier in the episode, so he's unable to bring him back to life. The family tries to move on by adopting a new dog named Vinnie.

Why it falls short: Fans hated that the Family Guy team decided to kill off a beloved character. They even started a petition to bring him back. Naturally, he returned to the show two episodes later, so in hindsight, the episode seems like a cop-out with no real consequences.

  • Fresh Heir on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#3) Fresh Heir

    • March 23, 2014

In "Fresh Heir," Carter leaves his entire fortune to Chris. Realizing his chance to make a bunch of money, Peter gets Lois to divorce him, and he proposes to Chris.

Why it falls short: "Fresh Heir" just makes your skin crawl. The plot deals heavily with incest, and even ignoring Peter's intentions to marry his son, many of the jokes are about incest in various other ways, such as Chris teaching Carter how to masturbate. It's really just gross.

  • The 2,000 Year-Old Virgin on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#4) The 2,000 Year-Old Virgin

    • December 7, 2014

In "The 2,000 Year-Old Virgin," Jesus comes to Quahog and asks Peter to have sex with Lois because he's still a virgin. However, it turns out Jesus lied, and he does this every year to have sex with different women.

Why it falls short: Any episode featuring Jesus wanting to have sex is bound to court controversy. Family Guy even said before the 13th season started they made an episode they knew would be controversial.

  • Screams of Silence: The Story of Brenda Q on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

(#5) Screams of Silence: The Story of Brenda Q

    • October 30, 2011

In "Screams of Silence: The Story of Brenda Q," Quagmire's sister comes to town with her abusive boyfriend. The guys try to help her, but nothing legal works. The episode ends with Quagmire killing the boyfriend.

Why it falls short: This episode really rubbed viewers the wrong way. For starters, Family Guy has made light of domestic abuse numerous times over the years, so the characters suddenly taking it seriously was a bit of a left turn. The plot itself seemed incredibly contrived with Jeff abusing Brenda in front of many people. The show had an opportunity to make a real point about domestic violence, but they dropped the ball in a big way.

  • Stewie is Enceinte on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#6) Stewie is Enceinte

    • March 8, 2015

In "Stewie is Enceinte," Brian no longer wants to hang out with Stewie. As a result, Stewie impregnates himself with Brian's DNA to try to force him to come back.

Why it falls short: It's just plain weird. It's clear this episode just want to go for shock value, and there aren't that many jokes to offset the unpleasantness.

  • Send in Stewie, Please on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#7) Send in Stewie, Please

    • March 18, 2018

"Send in Stewie, Please" focuses on Stewie meeting with a child psychologist. They make small talk until Stewie ultimately reveals that the voice he's been making all these years is just a facade. The psychologist has a heart attack, and Stewie lets him die so that his secret can remain safe.

Why it falls short: There's nothing wrong with a bottle episode, but this is another Family Guy episode that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. We didn't really need to know Stewie has a different voice, and his decision to let the psychologist die just feels too dark, even for Stewie.

  • You Can't Handle the Booth on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

(#8) You Can't Handle the Booth

    • March 24, 2019

In "You Can't Handle the Booth," the Griffins record commentary for a fictional episode of Family Guy. They meet the people who voice them and reveal details about their "real lives," such as the fact that Peter used to be married to Sarah Paulson.

Why it falls short: For most fans, this episode is just plain boring. The meta gimmick of the Griffins recording their own commentary quickly wears out, and there's nothing else for the episode to explore.

  • Brian's a Bad Father on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#9) Brian's a Bad Father

    • January 26, 2014

Brian reunited with his estranged son Dylan after he becomes a cast member for a new Disney Channel show. Brian uses this opportunity to further his writing career, alienating Dylan even more.

Why it falls short: Yes, the title of the episode kind of says it all, but it becomes really hard to find Brian likable after seeing him treat his son so poorly. The B-plot is not much better with Quagmire shooting Peter in the head.

  • Brian Griffin's House of Pain on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

(#10) Brian Griffin's House of Pain

    • March 28, 2010

In "Brian Griffin's House of Payne," one of his old pilots is discovered. Brian and Lois go off to film it with Brian having to make concessions at every turn. Meanwhile, Chris and Meg seriously injure Stewie to the point where he has a gaping wound on his head.

Why it falls short: The B-story really kills this episode. Brian's plot of getting a TV show made is fairly interesting, but any time it returns to the B-plot, it's hard to look at the screen with Stewie's maggot-infested gash.

  • Quagmire's Dad on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#11) Quagmire's Dad

    • May 9, 2010

Quagmire introduces everyone to his father. Shortly thereafter, his dad reveals he's transgender, and he plans on undergoing a sex change operation to become a woman. Brian, unaware of all this, ends up having sex with Ida in a hotel, and it's not long until Quagmire discovers this.

Why it falls short: Plain and simple, this episode is extremely transphobic and has not aged well in the slightest.

  • April in Quahog on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#12) April in Quahog

    • April 11, 2010

In "April in Quahog," the newscasters announce a black hole will soon swallow the planet. Peter reveals that he hates spending time with his kids, and then, it's all revealed the black hole was an April Fool's joke. Peter makes amends by buying his kids an Xbox 360.

Why it falls short: Peter can be kind of a jerk, but deep down, you know he loves his family. This episode through all that out the window, and it doesn't come to any kind of worthwhile resolution. He buys their love, and his disdain for his children is never brought up again... except for Meg every chance he can get.

  • Road to India on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#13) Road to India

    • May 22, 2016

In the next installment of Family Guy's "Road to..." series, Brian and Stewie head to India. Brian has fallen in love with an Indian woman named Padma, but they discover she's arranged to be married to someone else. She calls off her wedding, earning Brian the disdain of her father.

Why it falls short: The episode relies heavily on racist humor, even for Family Guy. Overall, the episode just feels rushed with many of the jokes failing to land.

  • Quagmire's Mom on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#14) Quagmire's Mom

    • February 8, 2015

Peter throws a party, during which Quagmire has sex with a girl he believes is 23. It's later revealed she's under the age of legal consent in Rhode Island. Quagmire goes to trial, and the only reason he doesn't go to prison is due to his mother having sex with the judge.

Why it falls short: Accident or not, Quagmire committed statutory rape. He should go to prison, and the fact that everyone insists he's a good guy when he's clearly not is pretty repulsive.

  • Brian & Stewie on Random Worst 'Family Guy' Episodes

    (#15) Brian & Stewie

    • May 2, 2010

"Brian & Stewie" is a famous bottle episode where Brian and Stewie are trapped in a bank vault for a weekend. They exchange stories and bond through the process with Brian ultimately revealing that he keeps a gun in a safety deposit box in case he ever wants to kill himself.

Why it falls short: This is a love it or hate it episode. What makes it really hard to stomach is the scene where Brian has to eat the poop out of Stewie's diaper or else he'll get a rash. It's best to skip ahead during that part.
