(#14) Septimus Malfoy, The 'Adviser' To Minister For Magic Unctuous Osbert, Likely Made The Leader His Puppet

Septimus Malfoy, active in the 18th century, was an adviser to Minister for Magic Unctuous Osbert. Septimus didn't have an official position in the government, however, and seemed to have a strange hold over Osbert.

Many believe that Septimus used Osbert as his puppet and was effectively the Minister.
(#10) Draco Malfoy's Parents Were Against His Marriage To Astoria

As an adult, Draco Malfoy turned over a new leaf and didn't care as much about blood purity. Although he still married a pure-blood witch named Astoria Greengrass, she was hardly the type his parents preferred.

Astoria didn't respect pure-blood fanaticism and refused to call Muggles "scum," which Draco's parents didn't approve of.

The Lucius Malfoy seen in the Harry Potter series was named after another Lucius from a previous generation. The first Lucius didn't seem to mind marrying a Muggle - especially one with significant influence. Though later generations denied it, the first Lucius tried to court Queen Elizabeth I, but was rejected.

As part of his contempt for Elizabeth, the first Lucius allegedly left a jinx on her that resulted in her never marrying.
(#8) The Malfoys Initially Opposed The Statute Of Secrecy

The Statute of Secrecy, passed in 1692, forced wizards to distance themselves from Muggles to avoid persecution by non-wizards. The Malfoys were at first adamantly against this law, because they liked mixing with Muggle aristocracy and didn't want to give up the wealth and favors they earned from these relationships.

When power shifted to the Ministry of Magic, however, the Malfoys did an about-face. They shifted their attempts at currying favor instead to Ministry members.

The Malfoys make it appear as if they come from a line of pure-bloods, but half-bloods have been part of their family as well. Apparently, before the Statute of Secrecy was enacted in 1692, the Malfoys amassed a good part of their fortune via relationships with wealthy non-wizards, acquiring Muggle money, property, artwork, and other assets.

After the Statute of Secrecy became law, however, Muggles were shunned and were no longer viewed as a potential source of power. So the Malfoys denied any relationships, including marital ones, with Muggles, and after that no longer married Muggles or Muggle-born wizards.

This means their claim of being part of the Sacred Twenty-Eight isn't true because they're not a fully pure-blood family.
