  • Rey And Kylo Are Perfectly Equal In Every Way on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#1) Rey And Kylo Are Perfectly Equal In Every Way

Reddit user SprehdTehWerdEDM has a unique take on The Last Jedi’s battle between Kylo Ren and Rey, and what it means for the balance of the force:

So in Snoke's throne room, after Kylo and Rey defeated the Praetorian guards and had their talk, Rey decides to not join Kylo and reaches for Luke's lightsaber, which flies out of Kylo's hand, only for Kylo to grab it too with the force. They both pull at the lightsaber through the force until the saber breaks in half.

Now I could be totally wrong here, but doesn't that resemble Kylo and Rey's equality in the force? They are both that strong, that neither can take the upper-hand in a battle using the force. They are equally strong with the force. To me this adds up to Snoke's quote 'Darkness rises, and light to meet it.'

Should this theory be true, does this mean, that no matter how often they duel, none of the two will ever defeat the other? Rey does defeat Kylo in The Force Awakens, but he was badly wounded in that battle, therefore not at his fullest potential. In the throne room they both seem to be at their strongest and voilà, their dispute only ended with them destroying what they both desired.

This is a thought I had today, that I haven't seen mentioned yet. What do you guys think of this?

  • Kylo Lied About Rey’s Parentage on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#2) Kylo Lied About Rey’s Parentage

Most viewers of The Last Jedi took Kylo Ren’s reveal of Rey’s parentage as a fact, but Reddit user itrytowrite1 doesn’t quite believe the words of old Ben Solo:

In TFA flashback scene we see a ship leaving Rey on Jakku. She is crying and screaming when this happens.

In The Last Jedi Kylo tells Rey this: You are nobody. Your parents are nobody. They were filthy junk traders, sold you off for drinking money. They are dead in a (inaudible) grave on Jakku desert. If the parents were really to die on Jakku and be buried in a desert grave, the parents must have stayed on Jakku, yet we see a ship leaving Rey and leaving Jakku.

Plus, can junk traders afford such a good looking space ship? Also, if you google 'ship from Rey's flashback' it surely doesn't look like a ship that is designed to carry junk. It looks like a small ship, a lot smaller than the Millennium Falcon.

  • The Connection Between Kylo And Rey Cannot Be Severed on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#3) The Connection Between Kylo And Rey Cannot Be Severed

One of the big twists in The Last Jedi was that Supreme Leader Snoke created the “force-bridge” that connected Kylo Ren and Rey, but Angie Dahl at Comic Book Resources theorizes that this bridge isn’t going anywhere now that Snoke is dead:

The connection between Rey and Ben, though amplified by Snoke, has been there since The Force Awakens. They are the balance of each other, which means they will always be drawn to one another — it sounds cheesy, but they 'complete' each other in a way. Though Rey rejects his offer to follow him and join his new order, fans doubt that that connection is going away.

The Force visions that they have with each other will probably continue. Snoke may have connected them initially, but with their powers growing, that connection isn’t likely to be severed. A showdown between the two of them in Episode IX is inevitable, and the feelings they have for each other, romantic or not, are going to make the battle have even higher stakes.

  • Rey And Kylo Will Truly Balance The Force Together on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#4) Rey And Kylo Will Truly Balance The Force Together

A writer over at Star Wars Analysis, Josh Schwarz, put together a thorough theory on what the future holds for a potential Kylo/Rey alliance, and they were even nice enough to post a summary on Reddit:

Rey, Snoke, and Kylo all have visions of the future in The Last Jedi.

Rey and Snoke's visions come true, but not in the way they expected. Essentially, these visions were misinterpreted. Rey thought that Kylo would turn to the Light Side. Kylo did turn, but he turned against Snoke and didn't join the Light Side. Snoke thought Kylo would kill his true enemy, Rey. Kylo did kill his true enemy, but it was Snoke, not Rey.

Kylo has a vision that Rey will join him, and believes this means that Rey will turn to the Dark Side. However, Rey doesn't join him in The Last Jedi. So, this vision has not yet come to pass. What could it mean?

I believe that Rey will join Kylo in Episode IX, but she won't turn to the Dark Side. Instead, Rey and Kylo will form an alliance between Light and Dark that can truly end the cycle of destructive conflict and bring peace to the galaxy. In this case, Kylo’s vision would come true in the sense that Rey would join him, and she would 'turn' to a certain extent, as she’d be pivoting away from the Jedi and towards a gray area between the Light and Dark. However, it would fit with the theme of visions being misinterpreted, as Rey wouldn't turn to the Dark Side.

By the end of TLJ, Luke and Snoke are dead. This means that in Episode IX, it’ll be up to Rey and Kylo to blaze their own trail. The prequel trilogy ended with the Dark Side triumphant and the Light Side devastated. The original trilogy ended with the Light Side triumphant and the Dark Side devastated. Perhaps this sequel trilogy will end with the Light Side and Dark Side united in true balance.

  • Rey Briefly Pondered Killing Kylo In The Last Jedi on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#5) Rey Briefly Pondered Killing Kylo In The Last Jedi

Reddit user liquidtorpedo has a unique take on a Star Wars fan theory, theorizing about a scene that MUST have happened offscreen in The Last Jedi:

What we are shown is this: After Holdo's kamikaze attack Hux arrives at the throne room in the right moment to witness Kylo Ren regaining consciousness. Kylo looks around and ask him where Rey is. Hux says she has already ran away.

So she woke up earlier, right?

Imagine the scene: Rey wakes up in the burning throne room, still dizzy from the blast Snoke's Star Destroyer suffered seconds ago. She looks around, and sees Kylo lying on the ground not far away. She sees that he is still breathing. That he is alive. Absentmindedly she picks up her lightsaber from the ground only to realize moments later that her lightsaber was destroyed during the battle - what she is holding now is Kylo's. She shakes her head and looks around again. To the throne, to the lightsaber in her hand and to the unconscious Kylo on the ground. And we see that she realizes that she could end this right now. She could kill Kylo Ren. She could kill him easily. This is what she wanted to do moments ago and now she has the chance. Maybe she could even take his place as the leader of the First Order. At this point she is certain that Kylo is now irredeemably evil and leaving him alive will only breed suffering and despair. She steps to him, switches the red lightsaber on and raises it, ready to strike him dead. And at this point we can see a flashback to Luke doing the exact same thing. Rey suddenly realizes that she is about to do what she despises her old master for. She throws the lightsaber to the ground with disgust, turns away and starts running.

The details may have been different, but the point is the same. When she wakes up, Rey faces the same dilemma Luke had earlier. The greatest moral dilemma of the entire story. Should we destroy evil if we have the chance to? And we aren't shown how she, our supposed main character, handles this. The more I'm thinking about it the more and more I'm convinced that including this 30 second scene would radically change the entire movie.

  • Rey Has Already Seen Kylo Ren’s Violent Future on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#6) Rey Has Already Seen Kylo Ren’s Violent Future

There are countless interpretations of Rey’s force-related visions in The Force Awakens, but Reddit user Lonzo_bald has one of the hottest takes, and it involves Kylo Ren:

In The Last Jedi, We see that Kylo’s attack on the Jedi temple was triggered by Luke activating his lightsaber near Kylo so that Kylo thought Luke was trying to kill him. The attack on the Jedi temple was not planned by Kylo.

My theory is the knights of Ren didn’t exist at that time and what we saw in Rey’s dream after she touched the lightsaber in Episode VII was the knights standing at a massacre that has not happened yet. Essentially Rey saw into the future there and that is where the finale of the new trilogy will take place.

Also I believe the Knights of Ren were acknowledged in Episode VII but that can be accounted for as they could easily be being trained or just beginning.

They could easily become new supreme leader Kylo’s replacements for the Imperial Guard.

  • Rey Will Build A New Jedi Order To Take On The Knights Of Ren on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#7) Rey Will Build A New Jedi Order To Take On The Knights Of Ren

Sightings of the Knights of Ren have been surprisingly sparse throughout Episode VII and Episode VIII of Star Wars, but an anonymous user on TVTropes’ WildMassGuessing section has speculated that they’ll be at the center of a massive battle in Episode IX:

The ending of The Last Jedi shows people across the galaxy beginning to manifest Force abilities. Rey, who has the original Jedi scriptures from Ahch-To in her possession, will have gathered some of these Force-sensitives as a nascent Jedi Order to help the Resistance rebuild their forces in the aftermath of the Battle of Crait. Meanwhile with Snoke and Phasma dead, the Knights of Ren, who have yet to be shown in the trilogy beyond flashbacks, will take a more central role in the story as Kylo Ren's elite and devoted followers in the final battle to come.

  • Kylo Was Playing Both Snoke And Rey In The Throne Room on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#8) Kylo Was Playing Both Snoke And Rey In The Throne Room

Reddit user mickluchiano213 thinks that people aren’t giving Kylo Ren enough credit for cleverness,

While watching the film I was personally shocked to find out that Snoke was behind the merging of Kylo and Rey’s minds.

Rey and Kylo both knew the other had nothing to do with it. I believe Kylo figures out pretty quickly that it was Snoke and that he will have to kill Rey.

Upon figuring this out he realizes he is now in a position a power with Rey and with Snoke. He lets Rey see the good side of him that still has a chance of turning back to light. He lets Snoke see the anger and hate towards Luke, the Jedi, and the rebels. He is giving them both what they want and both believe that they will win him over.

In reality Kylo does care for Rey much more than he cares for Snoke. But more than anything Kylo wants power. He decides he will continue the cycle and do what his hero (Vader) should have done. Kill his master and rule the Galaxy with the one person he cares about. (Luke for Vader and Rey for Kylo).

He knows Rey is filled with a lot of emotion much like him. And knows that he, a young strong man, will have a much longer reign than that of ancient, weak Snoke. And he will have a much stronger enforcer in Rey.

  • Supreme Leader Snoke Was Manipulating Both Kylo And Rey From The Very Beginning on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#9) Supreme Leader Snoke Was Manipulating Both Kylo And Rey From The Very Beginning

Kylo Ren and Rey obviously share some sort of connection, and Reddit poster dibidi theorizes that the common denominator between the two could be long-term manipulation at the hands of Snoke:

Consider: Anakin was force conceived by Plagueis/Sidious.

What if Rey is the attempt of Snoke to do the same thing, except he’s not powerful enough to force conceive a child. He instead is powerful enough to imbue the force into an already conceived child.

Rey was Snoke’s contingency plan for an apprentice if he was unable to turn Ben Solo to the dark side.

This explains why Snoke seems to be familiar with Rey.

This explains why Rey is seemingly the counterpart force-wise to Kylo Ren.

This explains why Rey’s parents probably found it easy to sell her off; once Snoke turned Ben, Snoke did not need Rey anymore and screwed Rey’s parents over. They sold Rey to Unkar Plutt as a way to recoup their losses.

More importantly, this does not contradict TLJ which established that Rey was born a nobody.

This also provides parallelism to Anakin’s story of being born a nobody too.

Finally this provides dramatic irony assuming all of this is true — Snoke created Rey as a dark side counter measure to Ben Solo if Ben could not be turned. Ben turned to the dark side and Snoke abandons Rey. As a result, Rey then becomes the light side counter measure to Kylo Ren.

  • Snoke Faked His Death To Turn Kylo And Rey Into The Next Anakin And Padmé on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#10) Snoke Faked His Death To Turn Kylo And Rey Into The Next Anakin And Padmé

Reddit user MurasameX has crafted a very thorough and convincing theory that Supreme Leader Snoke is intentionally manipulating Kylo and Rey into an “Anakin-Padmé” arc:

Snoke spends the whole movie manipulating Kylo and Rey in order to create the next Vader. The mind bridge led to an intimacy between the two, and they grew to know and care about each other on a romantic level. Is Snoke just trying to get his loner apprentice a date? Sort of. This connection was designed by Snoke in order to reproduce the Anakin-Padmé fear of loss dichotomy.

In the beginning of the movie, Snoke shows disappointment with Kylo Ren for being bested by a nobody. He talks about how he originally wanted Kylo to be the next Vader, but his young apprentice isn't there yet. Kylo's 'spirit is torn' from killing his father, and he later fails to shoot at his mother's ship. It's a good thing that he didn't kill his mom, but in the eyes of a Sith Lord it would be considered a failure of commitment. Snoke also explains to Kylo that it's useful to have a trash-tier general like Hux in a position of power because his weaknesses can be exploited. Or something. Well that works for Kylo as well, who has serious Grand-Daddy issues and a lack of resolve from a torn spirit. This is where Snoke's plan to connect the love birds comes into play. He anticipates that his lonely, angsty, edgelord of an apprentice will grow attached to Rey. Picture creepy Snoke listening in on their private conversations. He has read up on his romance novels and sees where this will go. Snoke waits for his apprentice to be shirtless and then puts him on webcam. That was no coincidence.

Snoke wants Kylo and Rey to be the new Anakin and Padmé. Remember when Anakin had terrible visions of Padmé & his mother dying? Yeah, that was Darth Sidious's doing. The thing about Darth Sidious is that he was incredibly subtle. Most of what he did was done behind the scenes or through deception. I was reminded of old Sid as soon as Snoke's blue holographic face showed up on the bridge. Snoke has been known to be subtle as well. Luke told Rey that Snoke had corrupted Ben's mind at an early age. Snoke has been working in the shadows for years, grooming Ben into a Sith. Kylo sees visions of Rey's parents, and Rey sees visions of Kylo's bright future. Both of those images were sent by Snoke in order to provide each of them with motivation to save the other. They're both so moved that Rey willingly gets taken prisoner and Kylo turns on his master. The way that Snoke was saying 'He will kill his true enemy' was riddled with intentional double-meaning. Snoke knew that Kylo was going to turn on him because that was his plan. He wanted his apprentice to strike him down, just as Sidious wanted Luke to strike him: 'You want this, don't you? The hate is swelling in you now. Take your Jedi weapon. Use it. I am unarmed. Strike me down with it! Give into your anger! With each passing moment, you make yourself more my servant.' Similar scenes, except, Snoke died. At least, that's what he wanted them to think. Just like Sidious, he operates through subtlety and deception. Unlike Sidious, he has the benefit of history. He undoubtedly knows the story behind Luke seeing light in Vader, saving him, and Vader's eventual betrayal of the Emperor. Snoke anticiated that Rey would see light in Kylo. After all, he's the one who sent those visions to her.

Thanks to the lessons of the past, Snoke knew that she would try to save Kylo, and that Kylo would eventually betray him. So his plan led them to join forces against him and ultimately kill him? Pretty crap plan, right? It would be, if he was actually dead. Just like Luke did a death fake-out that bought the rebellion time to escape, Snoke also appeared to die to get closer to his goal of creating the next Vader.

  • Rey Is Going To Kill Kylo In Episode IX on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#11) Rey Is Going To Kill Kylo In Episode IX

Bustle has a lot of speculation about the future of the Star Wars franchise, and writer Olivia Truffaut-Wong has a particularly deadly prediction about Kylo and Rey:

If Kylo truly is evil once and for all, then it's clear that there's only one way for Episode IX to end: Kylo Ren must die. In The Last Jedi, Snoke says that Rey has risen with the Force to counteract Kylo's power. As Kylo has grown more powerful with the Dark Side, the Force has balanced his power through Rey, pulling her to the Light. If Snoke is right, then Rey is the only person strong enough to match Kylo and potentially beat him in battle.

It would be sad to see Rey have to kill Kylo to defeat the First Order, especially after she had such strong faith that he could be turned, but it might be the only way.

  • Rey And Kylo Are Destined To Switch Sides on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#12) Rey And Kylo Are Destined To Switch Sides

The folks over at PopSugar make their living on pop culture speculation, and they have an incredibly troubling vision of the future for Kylo Ren and Rey, according to writer Ryan Roschke:

We know Kylo Ren is very troubled. It's clear his journey to the dark side has been tumultuous, and Han Solo very nearly draws him out of it. Rey, on the other hand, seems to have a darkness in her. There's that moment during her lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren, where she very nearly delivers a deadly blow and kills him. Furthermore, Kylo recognises this darkness in her as well. He offers to train her!

What if they switch spots? What if Kylo pulls Rey to the dark side just as he finds himself drawn to the light? What if all the heroes are actually villains and vice versa? It could change the whole trilogy as we know it.

  • Snoke Sacrificed Himself To Bring Kylo And Rey Together on Random Fan Theories About Rey And Kylo Ren That Will Mess With Your Head And Your Heart

(#13) Snoke Sacrificed Himself To Bring Kylo And Rey Together

TVTropes’ WildMassGuessing section allows users to anonymously speculate about the future of various media franchises, and the section has collectively come up with some humdingers, including:

Snoke may not be a true Sith Lord, but he is a being of the Dark Side, and therefore can only think of success in the context of one trope: Kill and Replace. The reason his plan failed in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi is not merely because Evil Cannot Comprehend Good, but also Pure Evil Cannot Comprehend Morally Conflicted, Emotionally Unstable Evil.

Snoke assumed that every step in his plan to connect Kylo and Rey through a Force Bond, manipulate Kylo into killing his own master, then taking the throne of Supreme Leader the first chance he had, with Rey willingly accepting his offer to join him would work because that's the way he would think.

Snoke assumed that connecting Rey and Kylo through the Bond would make them understand each others' plights and join forces in the end. He assumed that the reason Kylo Ren became emotionally compromised after killing Han Solo was not because he had just, you know, killed his father, but because Han Solo 'meant nothing' to him — that he needed a real father figure, the person who raised him, to kill. He assumed that making Kylo Ren hate him, bullying Kylo and metaphorically castrating him by forcing him to take off his mask and feel ashamed of his connection to his grandfather would strengthen Kylo's connection to the Dark Side through anger and hate, not resentment and self-loathing.

Snoke's smile just before Kylo kills him, and the odd emphasis he places on Kylo Ren 'striking down his true enemy', is not an example of him misreading the situation. Up until his death, he believes he has won. The first signs of his plan falling apart only happen after Rey refuses Kylo Ren's offer, which reveals that even after everything Snoke has done, Kylo Ren is still not ready to conquer the galaxy. Perhaps he will never be ready.

Snoke assumed everything, understood nothing, and paid the ultimate price — not just his life, but any chance of the First Order succeeding in his apprentice's incompetent hands. If Snoke wasn't a villain, it would be tragic.
