  • Deadpool on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#1) Deadpool

    • Film (2016)

After the debacle of Wade Wilson's appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the solo Deadpool movie set out to stick to the spirit of Marvel's most irreverent psychopath. Not only did Deadpool break the fourth wall and crack wise just as Wade Wilson should, but he also sported a surprisingly comics-accurate costume, complete with expressive digital eye action.

  • Iron Man — The Avengers, Iron Man Et Al on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#2) Iron Man — The Avengers, Iron Man Et Al

Every iteration of the Iron Man armor is not only incredibly cool but somehow incredibly believable. We all totally bought a flying, laser shooting, human-piloted suit of armor for four, going on five movies now.

  • Doctor Strange — Doctor Strange on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#3) Doctor Strange — Doctor Strange

The costume department of Doctor Strange worked extremely hard to get the details right on the costume. The cloak alone, in its final version, took five full days to fabricate. Read more about the process here.

  • Captain America — Captain America: The Winter Soldier on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#4) Captain America — Captain America: The Winter Soldier

His S.H.I.E.L.D. suit from the comics blends in perfectly with the real world. In our world, this doesn't look out of place in any way. A welcomed change from the very tricky stars and stripes suit that never quite looks right in 3-D.

  • Thor — Thor: Dark World on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#5) Thor — Thor: Dark World

A literal god with a red cape, metal sleeves, large, chest orbs, and a quasi-viking helmet looking great on screen was simply incredible.
  • Bucky Barnes on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#6) Bucky Barnes

    • Fictional Character

One of the best most recent costumes seen on film. Buck Barnes returns to reek havoc on his former friend dressed like this, and it's straight out of the comics.

  • Loki — Thor on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#7) Loki — Thor

Green god of mischief, with giant gold horns and ornate metal trimming over his costume. This transition to the real world was magic.

  • Ant-Man — Ant-Man on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#8) Ant-Man — Ant-Man

Marvel Studios always finds a way to stay true to the original costumes from the comic books, while updating each costume to be more tactical and believable in today's world. Ant-Man's costume is no different.
  • Star-Lord — Guardians Of The Galaxy on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#9) Star-Lord — Guardians Of The Galaxy

One of those rare "took the idea of the character and threw a lot away" situations that actually worked out. Star-Lord has had so many looks over the years, none ever being consistent. So they took the energy of the character, the feel of the universe they were creating, added the important elements and made an icon.

  • Hulk — The Avengers on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#10) Hulk — The Avengers

This one goes out to the CG wardrobe artists who finally found the right (and first) shade and style of purple shorts to not look ridiculous, and still strongly nod to the books. All of Banner's purple wardrobe was fantastic and sneaky as well.
  • Black Widow — Captain America: The Winter Soldier on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#11) Black Widow — Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Avoiding the one-piece spandex look that her comic book counterpart sometimes takes on, they smartly gave Scarlett Johansson a more tactical but still form-fitting look that works nicely.

  • Nick Fury — The Avengers on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#12) Nick Fury — The Avengers

It helps when the new comic counterpart is based on a real person and look.

So when the costume designers outfitted Samuel L Jackson in this Nick Fury garb, it was like he was stepping right out of the pages of The Ultimates.
  • Maria Hill — The Avengers on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#13) Maria Hill — The Avengers

The S.H.I.E.L.D. outfit is extremely iconic, having been around since the '70s. Comic fans always wondered how it would translate, look no further than one of the heads of S.H.I.E.L.D. (in comics and in film), who rocks the look perfectly.
  • Gamora — Guardians Of The Galaxy on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#14) Gamora — Guardians Of The Galaxy

Much like Star-Lord, Gamora has had many looks over the years (decades!) that it was better to start from scratch, utilize important elements, and create anew. And it turned out amazing and iconic.

  • Blade — Blade on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#15) Blade — Blade

Intense bullet/stake proof vest attached to chest. Little hints of red. Heavy-duty duster jacket down to the floor. Awesome sunglasses.

The best Blade costume we may ever get on screen.

  • Spider-Man — The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#16) Spider-Man — The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Everything about this suit just works. The color, the fabric, the proportions, the eyes — everything. The absolute perfect adaptation of one of the most iconic costumes of all time.

  • Sandman — Spider-Man 3 on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#17) Sandman — Spider-Man 3

Maybe the best part about Spider-Man 3 was just how awesome and perfect Sandman looked, especially in relation to the comics. The shirt, the way he moved in it, the silly brown pants. Ditko art at 24fps.

  • Doctor Octopus — Spider-Man 2 on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

    (#18) Doctor Octopus — Spider-Man 2

A hard character to even look believable in the comics somehow translated even better to the real world. The trademark tentacles and scientist garb, the tentacle placement, the glasses — Octavius came to life.

  • Magneto — Days Of Future Past on Random Best Marvel Costume Adaptations

(#19) Magneto — Days Of Future Past

At the very end of X-Men: First Class, we saw a more traditional comic look for Magneto. Since Days of Future Past takes place about a decade later, that look may have not gone over so well in the '70s. Here, though, we get an awesome look for Magneto that utilizes the perfect shade of purple, and it nods to his look in the Eve of Destruction comic storyline.
