  • Maleficent on Random Most Powerful Fantasy Villains

    (#5) Maleficent

    • Maleficent, Sleeping Beauty

To be honest, Maleficent is basically able to do whatever she wants. In Sleeping Beauty, she appears at the princess's christening, and even with the combined power of the good fairies, the king, and all the king's armies, it's clear that Maleficent is in control. The sorceress puts an elaborate curse on the princess and then simply leaves.

To protect Aurora as she ages, the king places her in the care of the good fairies, who live in hiding with her in the woods. This is a clear demonstration of Maleficent's power, as three other fairies - even though they outnumber her - choose to hide from her rather than confront her head on. She is only defeated by Aurora's true love, wielding a sword blessed by the other fairies.

Maleficent's abilities include pyrokinesis, divination, teleportation, electrokinesis, flight, the ability to control plants, zoopathy, curses, and shape-shifting, which she uses to turn into a dragon.

  • Darkness on Random Most Powerful Fantasy Villains

    (#8) Darkness

    • Legend

The 1985 film Legend features a surprisingly charming manifestation of evil known only as the Lord of Darkness. In the film, Darkness (played by Tim Curry) attempts to return Earth to a perpetual state of darkness so he can rule over it once again. To do this, he must slay two unicorns. He manages to get one, but is sidetracked after falling in love with a human woman named Lili.

Darkness has all of the powers of your traditional demonic entity. He commands an army of demons and goblins, and is super strong and immortal. He can also teleport, command flame, and influence people through their dreams.

  • Ravenna on Random Most Powerful Fantasy Villains

    (#13) Ravenna

Ravenna follows in the proud tradition of being an evil queen who's also a powerful sorcerer. In Snow White and the Huntsman, she is known as the Evil Queen, the ruler of the kingdom of Tabor. She is the stepmother of Snow White and becomes enraged after she becomes the fairest in the land. Her ultimate goal is to consume her stepdaughter's heart, which would give her eternal life and beauty.

Her main power involves stealing life from others, which she uses to stay eternally young. She can also use this power by extending the lives of others or healing them of their wounds. Conversely, she can slay with a simple touch. She's also a gifted shapeshifter who can change her appearance at will, and she can use a substance called "Dark Fay" to conjure nearly unbeatable soldiers.

  • Dormammu on Random Most Powerful Fantasy Villains

    (#3) Dormammu

    • Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme, Marvel Universe

The MCU's reimagining of the classic Doctor Strange villain Dormammu is an immensely powerful being. Wong describes him as being "the Cosmic Conqueror, the Destroyer of Worlds. A being of infinite power..." Dormammu uses his power to turn earthling sorcerers into his zealots so they can aid him in his quest to bring his dark dimension to Earth.

Doctor Strange was only able to defeat Dormammu by using an Infinity Stone, which is one of the most powerful objects in the entire universe. This defeat was mostly due to the Infinity Stone having power over time, which doesn't exist in the dark dimension. Hence, Dormammu has no power over it.

Dormammu's power set basically amounts to him being the living embodiment of the Dark Dimension, as he has complete control over it, can't leave it, and has no corporeal form. His best way to interact with the world outside of his dimension is to bestow part of his almost infinite power onto other beings.

  • Lord Voldemort on Random Most Powerful Fantasy Villains

    (#6) Lord Voldemort

    • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part I, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, J.K. Rowling: A Year in the Life, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter

Voldemort is so powerful that the entire wizarding world is afraid to say his name. As a child, Tom Riddle grew up in an orphanage where he would inflict pain on the other children. At Hogwarts, he became obsessed with his heritage and assembled a group that would become the Death Eaters. He then tamed and released the Basilisk living in the Chamber of Secrets, in an attempt to eliminate students at Hogwarts whom he felt weren't worthy of studying there.

After graduation, and a few more evil deeds (like picking off his family members), Riddle disappeared for a period of 10 years. He returned as the dark lord that everyone knows and fears today. His ultimate goal is to use his army of Death Eaters to overtake the wizarding world and achieve wizard supremacy on Earth.

Voldemort is thought to be the second strongest wizard in the wizarding world, just behind Dumbledore. He has achieved a type of immortality by splitting his soul among various "horcruxes," which all have to be destroyed to defeat him. He's proficient in using the three unforgivable curses, which allow him to torment and slay his adversaries.

  • Queen Bavmorda on Random Most Powerful Fantasy Villains

    (#11) Queen Bavmorda

    • Willow

Willow was George Lucas's attempt at mimicking the franchise success he had with Star Wars - by removing the space and leaving the swords and sorcery. The Darth Sidious equivalent of the film is Queen Bavmorda, who is the ultimate fantasy two-in-one: an evil monarch and a powerful sorcerer. In the film, a prophecy foretells that a child will be born that will end her tyranny over the people, so she has all the pregnant women in the land captured. Despite her efforts, one of the newborns is smuggled out and comes into the care of a band of misfits.

In the film, Queen Bavmorda is shown to be terrifyingly powerful. While sorcerers in other movies may curse a single person, at one point in the film Bavmorda curses an entire kingdom known as Tir Asleen. Or, for another example of her raw power, when the heroes lead a group of soldiers to her castle, she declares "you're all pigs" and effortlessly turns the army into a collection of squealing pigs. Her other powers include telekinesis, levitation, and bringing objects to life.
