(#12) She Didn't Need Cue Cards for SNL
When McCarthy made her hilarious appearance on Saturday Night Live alongside fellow Groundlings, she was praised not only for her funny antics, but for her professionalism. McCarthy completely memorized her lines for the performance, and didn't need a single cue card to remember. This is nearly unheard of in the Saturday Night Live world, considering most guests, even if they are actors, don't have the time to fully memorize their lines for a live performance. McCarthy owned the night and is considered an SNL pro. -
(#7) And She Even Made One of Her Award Show Dresses
After explaining how difficult it was to find anyone to design her a dress for award shows, McCarthy took matters into her own hands. The actress opened up about how designers would deny her requests to have a dress made because she was overweight. Frustrated and let down by the situation, McCarthy drafted and designed her own dress for the 2011 Emmys. Described as "wildly comfortable," McCarthy was more than proud to flaunt her very own creation. -
(#13) She Initially Wasn't Invited Back for the "Gilmore Girls" Reunion
McCarthy caused a stir not too long ago when she revealed that producers never asked her back for the Gilmore Girls revival. Set to air on Netflix sometime this year, McCarthy seemed rather irked at the lack of invitation. Producers pushed back exclaiming that they didn't think McCarthy would be interested, considering her busy schedule. Regardless of the bad blood, McCarthy and the show creators worked everything out. Luckily for her fans, Sookie will be making her return to Stars Hollow along with the rest of her friends. -
(#2) And Then She Went Full Goth in High School
As a guest on Anderson Cooper 360, McCarthy explained the quick transition she made from high school cheerleader to under-the-bleachers goth girl. The actress told Cooper: "Yeah, like in one summer I played tennis, I was on student council, I was a cheerleader... I was super preppy, and by the end, blue-black hair that I'd shave in patches." McCarthy's goth phase didn't last much longer than her preppy phase, as she was much too funny to pull off heavy black eyeliner. -
(#6) She Used to Study Fashion
Before acting, McCarthy spent time studying fashion at Southern Illinois University. Since then, she has never let go of her own creative needlework, despite being one of Hollywood's most in-demand actresses. McCarthy is a self-declared DIY-er and often spends time crafting her own handmade outfits. -
(#15) But "Bridesmaids" is What Actually Rocketed Her to Fame
McCarthy was obviously a very hard working actress before Bridesmaids. However, it wasn't until the hit comedy debuted that her career really took off. Thanks to her amazing and hilarious performance as Megan, studios began to take serious notice of McCarthy. The film is considered McCarthy's breakout role and claim to fame.
