  • (#1) Bran's Visions Started To Fill In The Gaps Of Jon Snow's History

Ever since Game of Thrones was just a book, Jon Snow's mysterious history has been one of the hottest topics of fan speculation. After years of discussion, fans seem to be getting closer and closer to discerning how Jon's past will play into his future. However, it was only in Bran's visions of Ned Stark's past that a concrete picture began to emerge. With help from the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran experienced Jon's birth, Lyanna's death, and an inaudible secret exchanged between Lyanna and her beloved brother Ned. You better believe that fans already have theories about that one, too.

  • It's All Littlefinger's Fault on Random Important Things You Forgot Happened on Game of Thrones

    (#2) It's All Littlefinger's Fault

For four seasons, viewers believed that the Lannisters had murdered Jon Arryn, King Robert's Hand before Ned and Lysa Arryn's husband. But in this WTF moment in Season 4, Lysa lovingly recounted her conspiracy with Littlefinger. It turned out that Littlefinger urged Lysa to poison her own husband, then write a letter to Catelyn Stark saying the Lannisters did it! So really, Littlefinger instigated the suspicion that would boil into war between the Lannisters and the Starks. Slimy creep.

  • (#3) Hodor And The The Time-Travel Paradox

Hodor's door-holding death was one of the most emotional scenes of the series to date. However, if you think about it too deeply, your head may explode - not from grief, but from confusion. Hodor's death may have illustrated a time-travel paradox involving the origin of Hodor's name from his repetition of the phrase, "Hold the door!" Whether time is cyclical or linear in the Seven Kingdoms, Bran's time-traveling visions into the past might have severe ramifications for the Game of Thrones universe in the future.

  • Sam Killed A White Walker on Random Important Things You Forgot Happened on Game of Thrones

(#4) Sam Killed A White Walker

After the Night's Watch mutinied at Craster's Keep, Sam ran away with Gilly and her infant son into the woods North of the Wall. It's a good thing Sam still had the dragonglass dagger they recovered from the Fist of the First Men. When the White Walker came for Gilly's baby just as it had for Craster's sons, Sam's sword did nothing. He then managed to stick the dragonglass in the Walker's back, causing the Walker to shatter and blow away in the wind. With that, Sam got the distinction of giving fans the first White Walker death in the series.

  • Who Runs The World? Girls on Random Important Things You Forgot Happened on Game of Thrones

(#5) Who Runs The World? Girls

In Season 6, viewers didn't have to rely on Daenerys to represent the "fairer sex" on the battlefield. In ever increasing numbers, women made big moves on both sides of the age-old battle for Westeros. From Yara Greyjoy stepping up to fight for her house, to Ellaria Sand declaring that weak men will never rule Dorne again, to Cersei taking a seat on the Iron Throne, women took care of business in ways that fans hadn’t seen before. Nowhere was this exhibited with more ferocity and fun than with Lyanna Mormont, a little girl who proved she was braver than her fellow heads of house combined.

  • (#6) Shireen Taught Davos To Read

Being locked away to hide her greyscale gave Stannis's daughter Shireen Baratheon plenty of time to read. In Season 3, she passed the knowledge on to Davos Seaworth while Stannis held him prisoner for opposing Melisandre. He would eventually become literate enough to deliver news from the Wall calling for more men to fight the White Walkers. This news would spare him from execution.

  • (#7) Jaime Saved Brienne From Getting Raped

While Brienne was taking Jaime back to King's Landing on Catelyn Stark's orders, they were captured by Locke and his band of Bolton mercenaries. Being mercenaries, with no dignified witnesses, they started to take advantage of Brienne, even though she put up a big fight. Jaime convinced Locke that she could be a valuable cash-in if delivered unharmed. Viewers later learned that Tarth is in fact not rich in sapphires, so Jaime lied to save Brienne.

  • (#8) Melisandre Revealed Her True Form

As the seasons progressed, viewers watched Melisandre accomplish a checklist of ever stranger, ever more sinister witchy wonders. Season 6 offered two of the most shocking examples of who Melisandre is and what she can do. Of course, the first was her resurrection of Jon Snow. However, in a potentially more jarring moment, she took off her clothes and her ever-present necklace to reveal herself to be a wrinkled old woman, not the siren fans have come to know and love (or love to hate).

  • (#9) What Secret From The High Sparrow Did Tommen Reveal To Cersei?

In an infuriatingly inaudible whisper in Season 6, Tommen told Cersei a secret that the High Sparrow shared with him in confidence. The audience never explicitly learned what that tidbit was, but it seemed to set in motion a chain of events that reached a boiling point in the season finale. With the High Sparrow exploding in a ball of wildfire and Tommen throwing himself off the royal balcony, a single secret keeper sat on the Iron Throne when the dust settled. Fans on Reddit have theories about what was said, but viewers may never know; as Ben Franklin once said, "Three can keep a secret, if two of them are dead."

  • (#10) Both Clegane Brothers Are Alive And... Well?

Despite near-death experiences on both of their parts, both members of the Clegane family made their marks in Season 6. When fans saw the Hound and the Mountain, they were on two wildly divergent paths. Sandor joined a hippie cult and spent his time chopping wood while coming to grips with his violent past. Meanwhile, Gregor stood silently at Cersei's side as a Frankenstein-esque killing machine. Alas, you can take the Clegane out of the violence, but you can’t take the violence out of the Clegane. When Sandor’s peaceful cult met a decidedly aggressive demise, he returned to his old ways, albeit with what seemed like a new perspective.

  • (#11) Brienne Acquired An Admirer

In one of the many welcome comedic moments of Season 6, Tormund got a bad case of love at first sight for Brienne. He tried to catch her attention throughout the season, devouring her with his eyes as hungrily as he devoured the piece of meat he ate. She didn't seem too interested and was maybe even a bit creeped out, but sometimes love can blossom in the strangest places. With Bronn also expressing his attraction in crude terms at the siege of Riverrun, it appeared that those in Westeros finally saw what fans have seen all along - Brienne is a boss.

  • (#12) Sansa Covered For Littlefinger

The Lords of the Vale were suspicious of Littlefinger when Lysa Arryn took a fatal step through the Moon Door. They thought they could nail him with Sansa as their ace in the hole, but her emotional testimony painted Littlefinger as innocent. She lied to protect Littlefinger, letting both of them keep their places of power as Season 4 closed.

  • Tyrion Met Jon Snow on Random Important Things You Forgot Happened on Game of Thrones

    (#13) Tyrion Met Jon Snow

Tyrion made his own detour to the Wall just as Jon Snow was setting out to join the Night's Watch all the way back in Season 1. Tyrion's sharp tongue made Jon defensive at times, but these two bastards of a kind did become friendly enough. They wished each other well after Tyrion fulfilled his dream of pissing off the top of the Wall.
  • (#14) Littlefinger And Olenna Reconvened

Fans only got subtle clues about the truth of Joffrey's death until this quiet but powerful scene in Season 5. Here, the conspirators said in no uncertain terms that they killed Joffrey. Olenna wanted to know if Littlefinger helped Cersei imprison Loras and Margaery. He denied it, but he also offered Olenna some information against Cersei. The young man, Lancel Lannister, landed Cersei in the faith's captivity by the end of the season.

  • (#15) Arya Got Along With Tywin

When Arya and her friends were captured and taken to Harrenhal by the Lannisters, who would have guessed that she would be saved by the big bad Commander Tywin Lannister? Somehow Tywin didn't know that Arya was Arya Stark, even though he recognized her as a girl. Regardless, he was actually pretty decent to her. He kept her as a servant, and had some interesting conversations while Arya contemplated killing him.

  • (#16) The Bastard Execution Of King's Landing

King Joffrey's enemies had taken up against him because they believed that he wasn't King Robert's son (one of the worst-kept secrets in King's Landing). Robert was famous for whoring - who knows how many bastards he fathered? Joffrey would not allow a single one to survive and threaten his rule. In Season 2, Janos Slynt led the City Watch in murdering every unclaimed bastard in King's Landing.

  • (#17) Olyvar Screwed Everybody

Remember this totally twisted arrangement of marriages that got going in Season 3? Well, the reason it kicked off is because the Lannisters discovered that Olenna was planning to marry Sansa to Loras Tyrell. They rearranged all the marriages to keep the chips in their family's favor. But how did they find out? Through the grapevine, of course, as Loras blabbed to Olyvar (who he was fooling around with) who blabbed to Littlefinger who blabbed to Cersei.

  • (#18) Ser Barristan Quit Like A Boss

Ser Barristan Selmy was one of the most famous knights in the Seven Kingdoms and the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard for the Mad King and King Robert Baratheon. Cersei dismissed Ser Barristan at the end of Season 1 because she knew he and Ned Stark had been friends. She gave the court an excuse that it was time for him to retire, but Ser Barristan let them know what he thought of that in epic fashion. Barristan the Bold indeed.
  • (#19) Littlefinger Made His Intentions Known

For six seasons, Littlefinger’s true motives have been a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. When he confessed his feelings to Sansa as she returned to Winterfell, he told her that he saw himself on the Iron Throne, with her by his side. Despite the cringiness of their age gap and his general air of creepiness, he actually appeared the tiniest bit genuine in his declaration. Was this the first time he vocalized his true desires? Or was this just another yarn he's spinning in a series-long web of lies?

  • (#20) Podrick Became A Favorite Of The Ladies

As a reward for saving his life during the Battle of the Blackwater, Tyrion gave Podrick a sack of coins and introduced him to at least three lovely ladies in Littlefinger's brothel. Later Podrick came back, still with the gold. Apparently, they didn't want it: the ladies enjoyed Podrick so much they gave him the time for free. Could it be that Podrick was actually an attentive lover who treated the ladies like real people? That seems so rare in King's Landing that it just might have worked.

  • (#21) Margaery Won The People Over

As soon as Joffrey accepted Margaery as his Queen-to-be, she got to work winning over the hearts of the people of King's Landing. In this scene in the Season 3 premiere, she visited an orphanage with many children recently made orphans by the Battle of Blackwater. She sat with them, lifted their spirits, and told the caretaker that she could come to Margaery directly for any feeding, clothing, or housing needs. Joffrey was totally mystified.

  • Arya Endured A Soap Opera Version Of Her Family's Drama on Random Important Things You Forgot Happened on Game of Thrones

(#22) Arya Endured A Soap Opera Version Of Her Family's Drama

In a storyline equal parts Shakespeare and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Arya (along with Game of Thrones fans) sat through a theatrical retelling of the saga of the Starks, Baratheons, and Lannisters at King's Landing. In addition to providing a surreal but fun recap of past events, the show and its star, Lady Crane, offered a well-crafted thematic parallel with Arya's journey among the Faceless Men. In the same way that Lady Crane knew she enjoyed being other people, Arya came to learn that she didn't want to be just "A Girl" as Jaqen and the Faceless Men required. Because if you were Arya Stark, why the heck would you want to be anyone else?

  • (#23) Robb Threatened Jaime With Grey Wind

Capturing Jaime Lannister was a major blow to the morale and organization of the Lannister forces going into Season 2. Robb knew he was not going to get much out of Jaime, but he still took the opportunity to flaunt his very own direwolf Grey Wind in Jaime's face. His string of surprising early victories and his mystique as "the Young Wolf" benefited him throughout the campaign in Season 2.

  • (#24) Daario, Jorah, And Grey Worm Infiltrated Yunkai

After Daenerys won the loyalty of the Unsullied in Astapor, she set her sights on Yunkai. Daario Naharis was murderously smitten with Daenerys, so he volunteered to lead a small team consisting of himself, Jorah, and Grey Worm into the city and force the slave soldiers to surrender. The ensuing fight feels almost like an encounter in a D&D campaign, with three very different styles of fighters sneaking into a city at the command of a beautiful dragon queen.

  • (#25) Daenerys Ate A Horse Heart

As Daenerys became more accepted into Khal Drogo's Khalasar, she underwent several rituals to promote her union with Drogo. One of the most grueling was eating a raw horse's heart while pregnant. She succeeded, and all the Khalasar celebrated the coming of her son, Rhaego, the stallion who would mount the world. Oh, what might have been.
