(#1) Littlefinger Predicts All the Major Deaths in Season Four in One Sentence
If things don't work out for Littlefinger in Westeros, he could make a go of it as a fortune teller. While trying to console Robin Arryn after his mom got dropped like a bad habit out the Moon Door, Littlefinger says, "People die at their dinner tables, they die in their beds, they die squatting over their chamber pots. Everyone dies, sooner or later." In that one sentence he predicted the deaths of King Joffrey, Shae and Tywin Lannister.

(#2) The Opening Credits Show You Where the Episode Will Be Taking Place
People usually fast-forward through the opening credits of any show, and the Game of Thrones opener is particularly long. But the next time you watch the animated opening featuring the different kingdoms of Westeros and Essos, pay attention to which areas are featured. The locations visited in each opening sequence vary depending on where the characters are heading in that particular episode. -
(#3) The Initials on a Wall Revealed Jon Snow's True Parents
Some Game of Thrones fans believe that Ned Stark is too much a man of honor to have fathered Jon Snow out of wedlock. SPOILER, but Jon Snow's real parents are Rhaegar Targaryean and Ned Stark's sister Lyanna, as revealed late in the seventh season. If you look closely at the picture above, you can see the letters "R" and "L" clearly carved to the left of Snow, foreshadowing a reveal that arrived years later.

(#5) Gandalf's Sword Is in the Iron Throne
The Iron Throne is supposed to be made up of hundreds of swords hammered together for months while being welded by dragon fire. If you look closely you can see the handle of Gandalf's sword, Glamdring, from The Lord of the Rings. We're sure whoever did that meant it as an homage to J.R.R. Tolkien and not to suggest that Gandalf was defeated and his sword made into a throne. -
(#7) Daario Insults a Champion with a Monty Python Line
In one episode, Daario defends Daenerys from a Meereenese champion by cutting off his head. Before he does this, he hurls a few insults in the fictional language of Old Ghiscari. According to the Game of Thrones linguist, he is saying the following lines, originally spoken by Monty Python's French Knight: "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries." -
(#8) Osha Making Brooms Is a Wink at Harry Potter
Natalia Tena plays Osha on Game of Thrones, but she also played Nymphadora Tonks, in the Harry Potter movies. When we see Osha on Game of Thrones in season one, she is making brooms and there is a broom featured in several shots - a nod to her witchy big-screen shenanigans. -
(#9) Lena Headey Hinted at Oberyn Martell's Demise Two Months Before It Happened
Game of Thrones fans know by now that Oberyn Martell, played by Pedro Pascal, suffered a crushing defeat - literally - at the hands of the Mountain. But two months before we screamed "nooooooo!" at our screens, Lena Headey posted the above photo on her Instagram, which spells it out.

(#10) The Showrunners Make An Appearance In The Hall Of Faces
It's not just your favorite Game of Thrones characters who make an appearance in the Hall of Faces. The Faceless Men also have the option of trying out David Benioff and Dan Weiss's mugs. Other members of the show's production team also make creepy cameos.

(#11) All That Dragon Woodwork in Kings Landing Is No Coincidence
If you look closely in King's Landing - especially in the council's meeting room and Tommen's bedroom chamber - you'll see a lot of woodwork adorned with dragons. Why, you ask? Old Targaryen furniture is being used even after the Baratheons and the Lannisters took over. There are lots of lions on the newer woodwork, too. -
(#12) The Winterfell Castle from the Pilot Is Also Castle Anthrax from Monty Python
There's a lot of love for Monty Python on Game of Thrones. Scotland's Doune Castle was used to represent Winterfell in the pilot episode, and the same castle was also used as Castle Anthrax from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. -
(#13) The Drowned God Is a Reference to the Cthulhu Mythos
George R.R. Martin is apparently a fan of H.P. Lovecraft's work, especially the Cthulhu mythos. Theon Greyjoy's people, the Ironborn, worship a resurrected figure called the Drowned God. Their prayers during religious rituals begin with "what is dead may never die," which echoes the prayer in Lovecraft's work, "that is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die." Cthulhu is also a squid-like monster, and the symbol of House Greyjoy is the Kraken, which is itself a squid-like monster. -
(#14) Brienne Of Tarth And Tormund Giantsbane Use The Same Fighting Technique
In Season 4, Brienne of Tarth fights the Hound and rips off his ear with her teeth. Tormund, the wildling with a wild crush on Brienne, has also used this defense mechanism. During the Battle of the Bastards, Tormund rips into an enemy with his teeth. Does this spell L-O-V-E?

(#15) Ed Sheeran's Cameo Was So Detested That They Killed Him Off
When pop singer Ed Sheeran made an appearnace as a passing Lannister soldier in the Season 7 premiere, fans were not exactly happy. In fact, the response was so strong that Sheeran felt the need to address it, saying, "I definitely think they should've killed me off in the episode. I reckon that probably would've been the redemption for the people that didn't like it."
Sheeran got his wish. During the Season 8 premiere, Bronn makes small talk while visiting the brothel. The women he is with offhandedly mention a "ginger" called "Eddie" who "came back with his face burned off."

(#18) The Viper and the Mountain Episode Nods to The Princess Bride
The epic battle between Oberyn Martell, aka the Red Viper of Dorne, and the Mountain nods to the battle between the Spanish swordsman Inigo Montoya and the six-fingered Count Rugen in The Princess Bride. Both Inigo and Oberyn are obsessed with revenge. When Inigo meets the man who murdered his father, Inigo tells hims, “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” During his fight with the mountain, Oberyn shouts, “You raped her. You murdered her. You killed her children." When Joffrey took Sansa to look at her father Ned Stark's head on a spike, it was surrounded by a bunch of other random heads. One of them was made in the likeness of George W. Bush, according to the DVD commentary. This so upset certain fans of the former president that the original head (left) was digitally altered (right) to look less like Dubbya. -
(#24) Cersei and Tyrion Shared the Same Room
Considering how much the siblings loathe each other, it's kind of ironic that Cersei and Tyrion shared the same bedroom in King's Landing. When Tyrion lived there, the same set was used for both bedrooms, they were just dressed differently. -
(#25) Joffrey's Sword Almost Got a Famous Name
When Joffrey is presented with a wedding present of Valyrian steel, courtiers shout out suggestions. One was "Stormbringer," which is the name of the sword wielded by the albino emperor in author Michael Moorcock's fantasy books. Another suggestion was "Terminus," and Terminus Est is the name of the executioner's blade carried by Severian in the 1980s series The Book of the New Sun. In the end, Joffrey went with "Widow's Wail" but didn't get to use his new gift for long anyway.
